Trying to catch any wild animal can be tricky, but trying to catch a bird that is capable of an almost vertical takeoff is very hard indeed!
Recently, our team were called to a small lake about half an hour from the centre after reports of a male mallard with fishing line tangled around one leg. With ducks being prone to escaping via the air if disturbed, Lawrie and Simon would only have one chance to catch him...

It's so frustrating to see so much discarded fishing line. It must be possible to develop a environmental friendly version that slowly degrades, I don't think the fishing community can complain, even if it costs more, because they discard enough of the stuff. 👍

Im 25 and for most of my adult life i havent really had a clue what i wanna do with my life career wise. Ive only ever worked as a cook in big restauranta which pays good but sucks when its all you know how to do. But i absolutely love watching videos of people saving stray cats and dogs and animals in general and ive helped plenty of strays in any way i could but it never feels like im able to do enough. I always wish i could take rhem all in and do more to give them the respect and life and comfort they deserve. My point is people like you have helped me discover my passion in life and that is to help animals who are down on their luck. I am planning to go to my newrest vet clinic and ask id i can do volunteer work and im hoping to study to go into that field when i go back to school this year.

I've seen many fishing line injuries in a lot of ducks at a lake where I live. One time, one was rescued and had to have his foot amputated. But, he was able to walk on his stump. He was released as soon as he healed. 5 years later, he's still around.

This is dumb. There is plenty of ducks to take his place. Every year they have like 12 ducklings. A complete waste of money. Animals multiply like jack rabbits and are not that important. You don't need to rescue them. Should rescue all the people dying on the sidewalk.

Yes they can however they will be an easy target for predators.
@krankieboolean1340
@krankieboolean1340 2 года назад
One of our local ducks has a stump for one of its feet. We have a coot with one foot. We also had a one footed Canadian goose that survived about a year and a half until someone got concerned, called out the RSPCA who "put it out of its misery". What I mean by one foot is that on land they drag one of their feet/legs - they use a hopping motion and open up their wings a bit to compensate. On water they had no problems getting around.
@neovo903
@neovo903 2 года назад
@@krankieboolean1340 ahh ok, I was worried as to swim the feet are large and webbed and I was worried that with so much less surface area, it would have issues swimming about
@krankieboolean1340
@krankieboolean1340 2 года назад
@@neovo903 They can still swim about but their maximum speed will be significantly slower, but at normal leisurely speed it is difficult to notice. On land of course it is very noticeable but they manage. Fishing line and collisions with solid structures seem to be the cause - or maybe escaping a dog or fox attack.
