The MLS is not really a retirement league anymore. It has evolved over the past few years, and is still evolving, moving away from a 'retirement league' and more of a stepping stone league. Young wonderkids are learning they can come here and look for moves to Europe's top teams. The quality of teams are improving and even some players from Europe are coming to MLS in prime years.
You are the most insane gk and you inspired me to be a gk you are the whole reason I like goalkeeping never back down you probably inspire thousands everyday :) BTW those saves were sensational
MLS has some of the youngest goalkeepers in professional soccer most of them have been incredibly good in net with their teams time to take them more serious also europe might try to recruit them some day hopefully not because I enjoy american soccer and the players they have any player who transfers is a loss for the league.
That’s interesting! It was definitely great to catch up with Maarten and talk with him about his experience in the MLS! I love that it’s slowly becoming more popular in the US! 💪
@@kameron1189 Soccer was a term first used an england you can't really say it's one or the other an also futbol is spelled fut not foot that as an American way of saying the NFL which the term stands for National Football Association the correct way to spell is soccer the european way is futbol
if you want american talents to develop they need to get out of the mls. playing in Europe completely changes mls talents, gives them another level of play so although it may sting (I know because I watch the swedish league) you need to let the best players go to better leagues
@@cramyt Everything you said is true but the MLS as league is now one of the best if not the best in North America futbol or soccer federation England has been around for 100 years playing futbol so of course they are considered one of the best leagues over time you perfect what your good at an become unstoppable in terms of competition American soccer or futbol has been around since the 1800s by newly formed American immigrants who played for something we like to call the US open cup which has been held every single year since 2020 you have leagues in America that started in the 50s and 40s only lasting a decade before folding due to cost skyrocketing out of control American soccer has never lasted 28 years as a league which proves MLS is getting better as a league but a full 100 years as a soccer league and they practically invented futbol rules and how it is played.
Reaction time, speed, jump are very important things to be a goal keeper but the most important things are decision making, ball distibution, handling the pressure,
I like that you did them test st the start. Myself a u18 hockey player and my vertical jump was 61 and long jump 255. Of course I might be in more explosive sport and diffrent position but super cool to see that.
The level of football in the states is of course not as high as in Europe, but it has progressed a lot the past 15 years both in terms of skill and overall popularity.
For sure. When I was playing club in the 2000's there were still a ton of really good players but getting on any pro team was pretty much impossible because it was so small at that time and no one wanted to test going overseas with the stigma attached to Americans (mostly because of our sports media) I don't think people really understand that the people who do play are still really good. I think the average player is better no doubt but It's a misconception that we don't have good players a lot of who just choose to not continue on with it. It helps when you can sign for clubs at a young age. MLS didn't really start their academies till a few years back and clubs were really expensive!! Glad it's changing! Here in San Diego we have a Barca development team which came like 5 years ago?
The 1v1s in the video were probably not designed to simulate real game situations, but in my opinion, dribbling for several seconds in the box does not indicate the goalkeeper's skills in defending 1v1 situations. It would be fun to see how you and the pro goalkeepers act in those situations, because when watching on TV you can't necessarily follow exactly how the goalkeeper reacts. Nevertheless this was really entertaining video to watch and I definitely would like you to do something like this in the future as well.
You are such a good and inspiring goalkeeper and id like to be just like you one day and i think you should start teaching keeper lessons it would be really amazing if you did
Ah yes he’s rock solid for dalas. I live there and go see some games some time. He’s been a game-saver every game. He’s the best keeper in the mls now. Slolina left
Pretty sure only Europeans think the MLS is crap. I reckon it’s on the level of some of the second tier of European leagues. A good MLS side will be competitive against average Dutch or Belgian sides
