Ruby’s tone change after she woke up 😩😩😩

Man this volume is gonna hurt. But it’s gonna be so needed man. The fact that Yang thought she was actually in some sort of afterlife after having died protecting her sister and then she sees her team there and is not happy because then that means she didn’t save them and they died anyway. Like, okay, yeah CRWBY just drop that whole load of depression on us. And then there’s the fact that Ruby just walks over and is like “of course we’d come after you, did you forget who raised me?” and it’s totally pointing out that Yang was the parent for a lot of Ruby’s childhood because Summer died in battle (Hound) and Tai shut down and of course if it had been Ruby who went down first Yang wouldn’t have hesitated to go after her!

I feel like the part where Ruby is slowing down and straying away while her team goes faster and faster is her losing her confidence and beginning to crack under the pressure. We all saw her pass out after Weiss said Penny died, she is beginning to feel the stress and I don't want her to lose herself from all the pain she had endured. Also, WHERE'S JAUNE?!

You know what I keep wondering? How are Ren and Nora taking this? Jaune was like their last family aside from each other. I think back on their conversation at the statue in volume 6 and how they pleaded with him to not be so hard on himself and remember that they love him, and now for all they know he’s dead. And right when Nora was trying to find some independence; they’re going to need each other. I hope they’re ok.

Neo as the mad hatter has me a little excited.

The worst part is that they have no idea that Jaune is there. He is all alone, wallowing in misery at having killed Penny. He is in the same boat as Ruby but without the familial support.

People need to remember also Neo is still made to believe that Ruby killed Torchwick, so shes hurting too. not that i am siding with Neo hurtin ma Ruby, Ruby still doesnt know why Neo is after either excited to see where that leads, glad ya able to upload here :)

My basic guess as to who the mysterious girl is, is that she might be the girl who fell through the world. That fairy tale was brought up by Oscar & Ozpin last volume and I can't help but feel it's relevant. As a side note, the Roman Holiday novel also mentions that fairy tale early on and states the girl in the tale is named Alyx. (I haven't seen episode 2 yet, so this is just a guess.) Also, poor Ruby. She just can't catch a break.

First off the obligatory: one of us, one of us (the as it's airing crowd xD) - I LOVE Little so much, they're just so precious. - "that's a lot of things" boy if that doesn't go towards Ruby's journey this whole time with the weight of the world on her back and trying to be everything for everyone she can be. - There was "white squirrel Weiss" and now there's "cheerleader Weiss" xD - I LOVE the shoulder twitch to wake up Little, it's just such a fun way to do it xD - That BB glomp threw rocket fuel on the metaphorical fire, was legitimately everywhere and I love it xD Power of the bees is top tier xD - The OP is AMAZING in terms of song and visuals. Like I think it may even de-throne v8's as much as I love that one, Casey is just too powerful. The drop at the first "Insiiiiiiiiide" in MC Escher place and then later between the book burning and the knight popping up = Casey may I present your crown cause DAMN! - OP also showing that Ruby is going to be going through it this volume, so Lindsay is getting their long -wanted wish xD Love RWBY season when the reactions roll out xD Not to mention being caught up you can ask all the rhetorical questions you want without as much worry about spoilers ^^

I hope that Neo and Jaune will work together. We weren't shown Jaune and the RWBY team together, but we were shown Neo and Jaune at the beginning of the trailer. And you have to admit, Jaune in full armor, with his face covered by a helmet and flames behind his back... looks ominous. That blacksmith girl must have been reforging Jaune's sword and his new armor. It's all theory and imagination, never mind.

First off, those people behind Neo in the OP? They are clearly the shadow people from Volume 1, out for revenge for being cut out of the show for seven volumes straight. Anyway, considering how easily and quickly Team RWBY found each other and even Gambol Shroud as well, it seems even more telling who and what they didn’t find. Neo might be able to use her Semblance and spy training to avoid notice, but Jaune, even if he was avoiding everyone, what the odds he could pull it off? More importantly, we know where Crescent Rose landed, so what are the chances that all of the girls somehow missed a giant, red scythe on the beach? It must have already been gone/taken by the time Ruby, Weiss and Blake woke up. Also, after two episodes now, it seems Weiss is responsible for most of the meme material, and a solid amount of the comic relief, and I am here for it! Look at her, cheering for Blake like an absolute dork!

I think the blue and light blue was supposed to show Weiss and Jaune falling since they fell after Ruby. Weiss fell before Jaune, so the light blue was ahead a little.

The new girl is the "Alice" of RWBY since in this Volume our girls are in basically Wonderland

It was worth not watching anything about Volume 9 until this came out, nice reaches there! The only thing I hope about Neo is that she makes her own faction. I mean, it was clear as day that she can no longer trust Cinder not even one bit, and Salem is not really a better option (she knows what Sale wants to do). Come on, Neo, you're better that this!

This is a hella stretch, but, the embers that came from the characters as they fell reminded me of Pyrrha and how she was dealt with by Cinder. And the knight seemed rather slim to me, probably impossible but you never know

I think the people behind neo are clones versions of Roman, the mother and father and some other people she knew from her past from the RWBY Roman Hoilday novel if ya read the book.

Its definitely a reach but I feel like either new girl is going to be like the old rwby or somehow ruby's trama was so bad that part of her personality split and created the other girl. I only say that because when she turned around you see ruby (it reminded me of when they went through Ruby's eyes and then Maria to tell us she had silvers eyes too). Also how Ruby's scythe washed up after she woke up. I feel shes strongly related to ruby but idk how.

NEOS ON HER MAD HATTER TIME

Kyaaa! I'm so excited for v9! I have absolutely no idea where it's going to go or what's going to happen but woo boy the implications of that opening... First thing that really stands out is that Weiss, Blake and Yang, all of their past selves merge and create the current 'them that they want to be' selves but when it's Ruby's turn all we see is a black and red silhouette and her symbol being swallowed up by the darkening background which er... Has not so great implications for how Ruby's sense of identity or how she's seeing herself. Then we get a canvas white version of that new girl blocking Ruby from view and another shot of Ruby crying... And then with all the images of the group moving forwards towards the new girl with Ruby falling further and further behind, and the scene with Ruby on the bridge and she sees the new girl literally turn into a manically smiling version of herself... I'm thinking the classic 'witch's/fae's twisted bargain' fairytale trope might be coming into to play here, what with all this 'Ruby being replaced' imagery and that quote from the trailers ("What if you could leave Ruby Rose behind? Shed her like an old coat?"). Like literally 'Ruby is replaced by someone pretending to be her and Ruby watches as her friends don't realize and maybe even seem to like the fake more than her' kinda levels of screwed up here. ...And given how little Jaune's seen in the opening and that he's not seen in the first episode, him having already fallen victim to a 'willing replacement' seems horribly likely (bet you he's the rabbit steed of the burning knight, with the knight being the replacement 'hero who killed an innocent to do the right thing' that Jaune can't bare to be -or he's split in two. That's always possible). As for how it might've happened so fast, if its less a physical exchange and more dependant on someone 'losing their sense of self' well. Jaune's spent since the early volumes trying to be a hero like Pyrrha, v5 probably finally felt he'd found his calling as a healer, had all those months in v7 reaffirming this new identity (he was finally being the hero helping people he'd always wanted to be) and then bamn! After killing Penny all that self identity is shattered and no doubt Jaune would rather be anyone other than himself right now... Making him perfect prey for whatever in the Ever After swallows people up... And Ruby, who also bases all of her identity on saving people and has just learned the attempt to save her dear friend Penny failed... *Flicks on the emergency sirens and starts shouting "Red alert! This is not a drill! I REPEAT, this is NOT a drill! Our red bean is in grave danger!' (Side note: Weiss told them that Penny died but her wording was "Jaune tried to help but Penny... Sacrificed herself-" She clearly knows what happened but is leaving out Jaune's involvement. ...And now that I'm typing this I'm wondering if the final tipping point for Ruby 'making the terrible deal' is going to be learning the truth and not being able to cope with all the pain). Anyway. Absolutely no clue about what Neo's purpose this volume is. Possibly as someone who falls HARD for the illusions/trap of the Ever After and will end up never being able to leave it (unlike our heroes who hopefully will)? She doesn't have too weak a sense of self though... Oh but arguably her self of self is based on lies she tells herself... Oh dear. That might mean that in the Ever After, not only are you at risk of being replaced if you don't have a strong enough sense of identity, you might swing too hard in the other direction (based off of a false image of yourself) and end up becoming a flanderized Fairytale staple/archetype of the setting version of yourself who's too dependant on what the Ever After provides you to be able to leave it... DX Anyway, thoughts on all the fairytale figures... While their direct allusions are all mostly pretty obvious, this story being 'fairytale' themed in itself could indicate a ton of secondary fairytale tropes like... Take Little who's clearly based on Stuart Little the mouse that gets adopted as a human; they also fit all the general tropes that mice have in most fairytales, being a magic little helper that joins after an act of kindness (from a young girl no less which is usually THE classic character in that kind of story), occasionally trouble causers (usually accidental or 'groups of mice being dumb in political ways'), etc. The purple cat is bound to be the chesire cat but cats are very frequently also the servants of witches, self serving tricksters and on rare occasions truly noble and wise guides... Though this does tend to be when they're a human turned into a cat more often than not (see: some variants of Puss in Boots, The White Cat, etc). The Jabberwocky esc monster, well, it's very frightening but monster tropes in fairytales run the full gamut from 'just generally terrifying' to 'actually a transformed human desperately seeking help but forced to obey strange rules until they are cured' to 'ultimate big bad with only a very specific, paradox natured weakness'; given it's early appearance and that it stole Yang's arm but didn't attack I'm leaning 'transformed human' trope since that's like THE number one classic and... Actually would be very fitting given the whole 'people being subsumed/replaced' vibes going on here. ...And um. The King/Queen might not just be a Red or White Queen allusion but also might be a reference to an *actual* fae king or queen like Oberon or Titania, and if that's the case then that's BAD NEWS for our cast because fae rulers are incredibly powerful, tricky and very often malevolent or running off extremely odd systems of morality (there are exceptions but they tend to be depicted as fairly humble where as that crown is anything but). That's all me mass wild guessing though. Not sure what the climbing the tree then falling metaphor is beyond just more emphasis on how hard escaping this place is going to be for all of them/possibly a metaphor for a world tree like Yggdrasil connecting multiple worlds or the philosophical tree (aka very famous metaphor for knowledge) but... yeah! Hope my guesses have given you some food for thought~ XD Edit: OMG! I forgot! Possibly very relevant fairytale to all this: In the fairytale 'Snow White and Rose Red' the other main characters are 'a prince/knight transformed into a beast' (he's a bear specifically but I think that matters less than the prince being Snow White's love interest in that story) and a wicked dwarf/goblin critter who the girls help out several times but only ever scorns them until the beast/prince kills him and its revealed that the dwarf was the one cursing him and others into animals in the first place. Not sure it's like, relevant across the board but the keys of a Snow White and Rose Red 'who are like sisters', a 'love interest' for Snow White being 'trapped in the form of a beast (who is first befriended by Rose Red btw)', and a small petty dwarf/fey thing who does the trapping and cursing, all seem like relevant points of interest to me~ XD Edit 2: Not sure about the book at all. Could be a metaphor for Ruby's fairytale dreams burning away, could be a hint at the solution (stop relying on the simple morals/answers of fairytales for your much more complicated issues and face them head on), could be a hint that they're on a ticking timer until the world 'burns them up'... Also the mystery girl is probably Alix from the 'Girl who fell through the world' in universe fairytale though it could also be IDK an echo of her (if say, she too got replaced/archetyped) or the 'fey in charge' that's perminently taken her appearance as its trophy... Or IDK wild guess it could be Neo having a split between her personalities. One, the confident mafia boss, the other a mere girl who fell through the world just like her possibly favorite fairytale... Literally separated in a world where identity shapes who and what you are.

Hey Gh0xt, To your question on the unknown girl, current speculations put her as Alyx, that universe’s equivalent of Alice in Wonderland. Since they’re in her story, they’re following her pathway from the story, since Alyx supposedly escaped back to her world. That’s why she’s blacked out when the girls are following her: She’s not really there. However, I do believe that she ‘is’ in the ever after somewhere, as it’s apparent from other appearances. The beast they were fighting is likely that universe’s Jabberwock. However the vorpal blade that would slay it now has two possibilities: Crescent Rose, or one of Penny’s fallen blades, seen in the trailers. Neo is most assuredly playing the part of the mad hatter… as for those behind her, people forget that Cinder sent a dozen people falling into the darkness before Yang went down. Those are likely the others. The purpose of the blacksmith is likely to have Jaune’s sword reforged after it broke against Cinder. Most likely he will have the rest of his armor made as well to become the knight… I just don’t know where he will fit in the story yet. You’re going to start noticing this, (I’ve seen ep 2, but I’m pointing it out for ep 1) but Weiss is acting very unusual. When they were trying to get Gambol Shroud, she was doing something more like Ruby would: jumping and cheering for Blake’s success. Weiss was always reserved with her energies, not one to waste effort or movement. Keep an eye on her behavior in the next few episodes, I want to see if this trend continues, perhaps her teammates aren’t exactly what they seem. I’m glad you were able to get around the issue with posting these videos. Your reactions are some of my favorite on RU-vid for RWBY. This volume is going to hurt at times, and I’m a little worried for Ruby’s mental state. Bear it in mind and keep a fresh pot of coffee brewed for those tears.

Oh no, how is ghost gonna survive this volume

As we know Semblances evolve, get fleshed out as the person ages, matures, and experiences things, now "ITS TIME TO REACH!!!" but here me out, we don't know how time works in the everafter vs remnant, is it faster, slower or the same? That being said Raven's semblance could evolve to a point where Yang could just be like "I want to go home." Clicks Ruby's heels and wahla, one to Raven from Yang portal. Also, there's the if time is slowed down thing and Weiss outlives Winter, would the maiden power go to Weiss? could it even find her if this were the case? yeah I'm not sleeping, Trama aside the what ifs are here rent free. Like how many of those mice are actually Mantle or Atlas people that fell?

More 'REACH TIME'. Those two falling streaks of blue during the intro : might they be Jinn and Ambrosius escaping from Salem? They were created by the god of light to aid humanity. Salem is mostly Grimm and by extension an element of the god of darkness. Would this mean they aren't obligated to assist Salem and are free to ignore/leave her?

You may hate me for this theory, but I think Pyrhha is alive. I believe she's in the everafter and is the blacksmith. In the clips they've shown, the blacksmith is most likely female. Now when Pyrhha died, she was shot in the chest, and if their anatomy is like ours the arrow hit the breast bone. It could embed itself in the bone without hitting the heart, and if she can survive the shock the most it would do is knock the breath out of her. Finally, when Cinder vaporized her, she turned yellow and then scattered. Just like the team when they fell off the bridge. What if instead of killing her, she sent her to the everafter.

Why is Alice/Aliyx/Unknown Girl wearing what looks like Maria’s dress? It’s time to reach!

I really hope we get Jaune and Neo like SOON. With this being a shorter season, and with the massive amount of character development Ruby's evidently about to get, we've really got no time to waste.
