We're back in Jaipur - Annika meets grandparents and says her goodbyes to daddy

After a very busy month of travelling all across India, to Kochi in South India, Visakhapatnam on the East coast and Mumbai on the West coast, it was time to literally cool off. This time our little family went our separate ways though, as Vinod travelled to Northeast and Annika and I travelled to the family house in Jaipur to be reunited with her dadi and dadu after a month and to enjoy the Jaipur winter. This was Annika’s first time visiting Jaipur in the winter season, but she was loving the cooler climate, all the North Indian winter food and getting to celebrate dadu’s birthday too!

My name is Johanna North. I’m a Finnish woman travelling in India since 2016. In 2019 I married my Indian husband and we moved to the state of Kerala in southern India, where we are still living. In 2021 we welcomed our baby girl into this world. On this channel I share videos on blending our Finnish-Indian family life, culture, food and travel mostly in India, and sometimes in Finland too.

Not to mention how essential of a part of a cultural identity and way of thinking it is! It would be very difficult for Annika to properly understand Finland and India (or her father’s part of India) if she didn’t learn the languages at a native level from birth. Many people don’t understand everything that languages are, or that I majored in linguistics and language learning/teaching in university - this is one field I actually super qualified to talk about and still read about language learning/multilingualism almost daily 🤓

I don’t see being Indian or Finnish that different in the end, at least when it comes to the things that matter to me the most, like home, family and food - except maybe the use of spices and I’ve always loved Indian and overall more spicy food unlike what’s in traditional Finnish recipes 😅 I love love love Indian food, though now i miss Finnish food quite a bit too since I never get it 😋

You FIL must have been very happy after that. Forget gifts, in India the elders dont even celebrate birthdays. I am sure your FIL would definitely have told your MIL happily about receiving gift from you after you left. I am sure your MIL would have been a bit jealous about it that she couldnt do something like that. Anyway , your MIL still made vegetable biriyani so that would have been negated all that. Well we dont usually get proper gifts like this either, but this time coming from Mumbai where we did a bit of shopping it was nice to come with a small gift too 😊 i don’t think that gifts are that important either, especially at this age, it’s more about being together and making the day special in some way! ❤️

Johanna's voice over is fantastic. It's like seeing some professionaly done documentary. Annika choses to answer in Hindi when mom speaks in Finnish language..she is one multilingual. So cute when she says "gussa", "Godi" etc. Nice.

It was some infection that Mommy and Daddy had got from their visit in the villages. It was a terrible ordeal and I wasn’t happy with the initial medical care, but once we got it sorted out Annika started recovering quickly and by now is perfectly well 😊❤

She’s all fine now though 😊 getting sick even quite often is a normal part of childhood, even though it always feels bad to see your child sick and this was particularly scary due to not such great medical care 🥺

Johanna.. when my son is Annika age.. Our mother toung is Bengali but my wife talk him in Hindi me in bangali and we stay at Maharashtra... So it's difficult for the boy learn any one language.. My suggestion to u talk to her with only one language.. after learning one language she can easily adopt others.. Look she have learn Malayalam also.. I understand u miss finish language .. it's ur mother toung... But please understand.. as i have faced this .. and i am advising u as my little sister..
