I agree with Fran Stains. The coach conversions and school bus conversions are very high maintenance, even if you are a DIY mechanic it can get very expensive. The trailer idea is good, because the tow vehicle can be your run around vehicle and most things on a trailer like the Shasta you can probably fix yourself. Since you are already a minimalist, you could easily live year round in the trailer. Three warnings if you do decide on a trailer: 1) do not pull the trailer on the highway if there is a wind advisory 2) make sure the tow vehicle has enough power to pull the trailer easily and 3) make sure the tow vehicle has enough weight to keep the trailer stabilized. My parents had a Shasta trailer that they never got rid of, because they found so many uses for it after they bought a low end motor home. Both of the motor homes my parents bought were maintenance nightmares, even though my brother a DIY mechanic went with them on all of there trips in the motor homes. What ever you decide I hope that you keep the the travel videos coming our way. I really enjoy them even though your idea of cold seems balmy to me.
Thanks for the advice! Yeah those shastas are super cool. We stayed in one a while back on Airbnb and loved it. I think the key with the bus conversion is to find a low mileage, diesel engine with a clean service record, but that can be pretty hard to find!
Thanks a lot... really trying to be ourselves a bit more. We pretty much sing like that in the car nonstop! Also, Allison had no idea I was filming most of that 😂 - Eric
haha omg.... SO funny seeing you guys saying in this video.... "Gutted to be walking away from this RV as we love it but the floors need re-doing and the engine too.... it's just a bit more work than what we were wanting or expecting".... fast forward a couple of years and you ended up doing ALL of that (and so much more) with Clem 😂😱🤦♀ But hey.... I think it all worked out in the end. You got the right RV for your needs ☺ ( even though she made you work for it! 😉 hehe )
Sad that you had to walk away from that RV. But you made the right call, it would have been a money pit as you said. Especially the engine part. Perhaps some other day :)
I'm very new to your vlog and very addicted. I'm curious as to why you're looking at such a large RV when you're used to traveling with so little? A class B RV seems more in line with that. Also, think of Maine when you do get out there in one.
right decision, it is way to old, it would have been one big bundle of trouble, you would struggle to get parts, wise decision, it is likely to collapse when you are driving it!
