It's finally time for us to go to France and start making preliminary arrangement for our April move. We hope to be able to look at some possible apartments to live in starting in April. BUT, the first step towards being considered by a landlord is to create a "dossier" that provides lots of information about you. In this video, I'll share with you the steps I am taking to put this together for Jeff and I.

I will be reviewing this in my next video.
Hi! I'm An Scott. I'm a happily retired 70 year old woman with my “golden years” on the horizon, living the “good life”, whatever that is on any given day, with my fun husband Jeff, and our “bossy” little Yorkie, Bella.
In April, 2024, when my husband retires, we are moving from the SW Florida, in the good old USA to Nice France to live out our “golden years” on the sunny Mediterranean coast of southern France, in Nice France.
Moving from the USA to a foreign country is no small “project”. SUBSCRIBE, FOR FREE, to my channel and as we progress through the steps of doing that, you’ll be able to follow along through each stage of our preparation and then catch up with us, as we settle in to our new life. We might even have some information you’re going to need if you’re also planning a move to France (or the EU) For now, come with us as we embrace our days and nights living everyday as though there is no tomorrow.
I hope you’ll subscribe to my channel, join our Facebook community, connect with me on social media and share your thoughts and comments here or there.
If there are any topics you’d like to see us share or “visit” with you, please be sure to let me know! NOTHING IS OFF LIMITS! (Check out my past videos to see some of my most eyebrow raising videos, that happen to be my most popular) I’m happy to talk about all of those things us “older” women think about but rarely say out loud. So feel free to send me suggestions in the comments, always.

YES! Actually Janice and I have talked about doing something together once we're settled in Nice, next year. However, we may decide to sneak in a little peek on our visit with her while we're in Paris, this time. If anything , just a "short". No promises. I'll have to see if she's up for something we can both share on our channels. 😍

An, thank you for all the hard work and diligent research you are doing as you prepare for this move. I will be moving to France in a few years myself (I will be 68 then) and have started learning French. In one of your videos you mentioned a French tutor. Is it possible to share the contact information of this tutor? If not, do you have any suggestions for a good tutor? Thank you for any information you are able to provide. ~ Jody Butler

Jody, I take online "zoom" classes, in a group, with Frannie Fleming. I found her on Facebook. She charges around $32-35 US (she charges in British pounds, so depending on the exchange rate, it varies a little). This includes a weekly class on one specific topic and once every week or every week, we get together for "conversation" where she divides the group into smaller groups and we just "chat" about anything in French, with her assisting if we can't figure out how to say something. I believe she also does one on one classes for those who do not speak French or have a very limited vocabulary. Not sure what those cost. I speak French fairly well already, having studied for 8 years, back in my "school days", , so I joined her class group to increase my vocabulary and learn to speak "better", sound more French. She is very engaging and has made a lifelong career of teaching French to others. She used to live in France and speaks like a native. She's located in the UK and here's a link to her page on Facebook - facebook.com/francesca.fleming.3. If you contact her, please tell her I sent you. 😊

Is a 90 day Airbnb type rental sufficient for an address when applying for a long stay visa? I am so confused about the address portion of the application. Thank you so much for all your hard work and valuable info and for letting folks know that you don't have to be rich to move to France.
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 11 месяцев назад
Yes, you need to show at LEAST a 90 day contract for "something", apt rental, Airbnb, an address somewhere with proof that's where you will be. The address of the Airbnb will be used on your application so you'll need to make sure the owner is ok with your using their address. From past experience most Airbnbs don't give you access to their mailbox. So make sure they will either give you access or they will be checking for mail daily and give you anything addressed to you. And then you can state if questioned that from there you'll be searching for a permanent rental (or purchase)

OMG I didn’t know the link. I was looking at the GuarantMe etc to get myself eligible to rent while I stay in Nice. GuarantMe is charging approximately 700-800 Euros for 1 year of furnished apartments to rent ( for the rent amount of 1200 Euros a month) they are expensive. By preparing this dossier, would you avoid paying that fee ??
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 11 месяцев назад
We certainly hope so. We won't know until we actually start looking for a rental to see what the potential landlord requires. I have heard that some landlords with a lot of applicants won't consider anyone without a guarantor. If you can get someone in France to be your guarantor I suppose you won't need Garantme. The issue is not knowing anyone in France to even ask. We would rather pay the entire yr rent in advance. I don't know what we'll be able to do till we start seriously searching. We're doing that in about a week and a half. And we are working with Adrian Leeds. We'll see what she says as well.

Recommendation for reasonably priced insurance?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 11 месяцев назад
First, what kind of insurance are you referring to? I haven't done much research yet on any insurance in France, renters, mutuel or ? Once we get to the point where WE have to shop for some kind of insurance I will do a video about it.

Health insurance is required for long Stay Visa?@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 9 месяцев назад
Absolutely. You must show a certificate proving that you purchased a 1 year Health Insurance Policy that meets certain requirements in order to be approved for your long stay visa. It's not "travel insurance". It has to be an actual International Health Insurance policy that includes repatriation expenses.

Did you redact account numbers or SS numbers?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Месяц назад
No, because this is a France government website that I am loading the info onto. We are only providing a link to the Dossier info for potential landlords to review when considering if we would be able to afford to live in France. They may want to be able to verify the information. When you're a foreigner asking a France landlord or management company to consider you to rent their apartment you have to provide them with all the info to verify it. So that includes account numbers.
