Can’t be kosher if you got cheese on your meat sandwich.
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 11 часов назад
I thought that too. There was no cheese on the menu or on any of the other sandwiches. Perhaps it was one of those non-dairy cheeses Unsure. There was definitely a certificate on the wall saying the place is certified Kosher.

Fabulous!!! What a fantastic show!!! Love the drones and would be great not to have the fireworks with noise and smoke in the future. I have been singing your intro song this morning and do not know who sang it or where it came from, can you let me know please? I had to cancel my Nice trip ( I would have been there for this show! ) due to bad news about my sweet Shivaboy being diagnosed with tumors. Wonderful friends are flying in today and I will make the decision if I am going to do the rest of my trip to Monaco starting next Sunday. Would love to meet you if I go..will know tomorrow..last minute...keep your fingers crossed. Merci for all of the JOY you bring to your channel.

Those sandwiches looked very disappointing to me. I love the super meat packed sandwiches from the NY Jewish delis and the big bowl of pickles they put on the table for you along with mustard, ketchup, and mayo for self service.
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 18 часов назад
They definitely don't look like what you'd find at a US Jewish deli. Part of it is the bread. However, they were definitely filling sandwiches. And it's not so easy to find sandwiches with cold cuts here in France. This is as close as we have come short of buying prepackaged meat and cheese and doing it ourselves.

It sounds like there's a great opportunity for an American to come to Nice and open an authentic Jewish deli...hint, hint. You could import the ingredients, hire locals to run the place day-to-day, teach them how to prepare the dishes and promote the place to locals and expats as well as tourists. Or maybe just partner with an existing local restauranteur on the menu and promotion...
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears День назад
Lol. Not me. I had a little French themed restaurant back in the US, in the 90's. It was a 24/7 commitment, huge investment, destroyed a marriage... I'm done doing anything that feels like work. (And my long stay visa doesn't allow me to pursue work in France.) In addition, some things need to stay as they are. We moved to France, as do many, for the French charm, French way of doing things. So, for me, it's ok not to have a NY Style Jewish deli here in Nice. There are Jewish deli restaurants, that are closer to what you'd find in NY, in the Marais area of Paris where there's a large Jewish community.
@islandbreeze2102

@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears I agree with An. Restaurant ownership is hard. But Linda is right about someone (a young person) doing it. It would probably be a huge success. Katz Deli in Nice???

They don't seriously dance in nue do they? That makes me reconsider. Is it uncomfortable to see them topless with company?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears День назад
The dancers are not totally nude. As far as the dancers with exposed breasts, I will admit, over 25 years ago, when I first went to a show like this in Paris, it was "unique" because we're not used to seeing performers in the US with their breasts exposed. But it is done very tastefully with gorgeous costumes. It was not uncomfortable at all. They are all young beautiful women, most not blessed with huge breasts. It's not "raunchy" or presented in a pornographic manner. It is an accepted form of the culture here in France. And some of their gorgeous costumes were created with cutouts for their breasts. You occasionally see naked breasts on television, here in France, too. The French do not have the same intense modesty us Americans have. Honestly, it's just part of acceptable French culture. I promise after the first 10 minutes of seeing many of the women in the show with exposed breasts, not totally topless, you'll "get over it" and be in awe of the performance and their costumes. If you're easily offended, by the "thought" of a woman allowing her naked breasts to be seen on stage, I'd say don't go, but you'll be missing out on one of the oldest most entertaining and beautiful shows in Paris. It's a must see.

As far as I know, you can't pause medicare payments. You can stop your supplement end of it. And, beware of the socialized medical there. I would check into getting international policy if you end up getting really sick, it makes a big difference when seeking out treatment vs those on social list. Too many people are getting on RU-vid and making it sound like the socialized medical is like having Blue shield Blue cross platinum, it's not. It's like the equivalent to being on Medicaid here in the states only you still pay a small fee for service.
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 2 дня назад
We have "stopped" our Medicare Part B deduction. We have no plan to return to the USA so the penalty that we'd be subject to if we did return, is of no concern to us. We are very happy with the medical coverage we will have here in France. Our out of pocket expenses are already significantly less than what we paid in the US. The France national health system is rated #1 in the world. The US is #37! Even without buying a top up plan, like a Medicare supplemental plan that covers the 30% the government doesn't reimburse) our medical expenses will be very low. A typical doctor's appt here in France is 25-30 Euros. (Less than our cpoays were in the US on Medicare) The France Healthcare plan reimburses 70% of that. So a typical doctor's visit after reimbursement will be around $8-$9. Prescription costs, lab costs, dental costs, etc are significantly lower, again, before reimbursement. The France government negotiates much lower costs with pharmaceutical companies.And, if you have a health condition that requires lifelong medication, like Diabetes, the France government will cover all expenses related to diabetes and many other conditions like that at 100%! Sorry, I would never compare healthcare in France to Medicaid. The USA could learn a lot from the France Healthcare system. People would be healthier and spend far less than they do in the US.

On another note, so glad you were able to see this phenomenon artwork! When I went in 1985 we had no phones and only took a few snapshots with a small camera. I had one more chance in 2006, but was exhausted from touring and stayed behind since I had seen it years earlier. It is quite a remarkable and overwhelming site! Time for another trip there. ❤❤

That's crazy! I have not had any issues with Google...as long as I don't "say" something or put a questionable word in the text. Facebook's computers/ai is another story. It is nearly impossible to get a human to respond to a request for inquiry about something they removed. I was very careful not to "say" any questionable words. 🤞

We are in Nice Centre. We are aware of the expat groups and keep up with their activities. So far we haven't had a lot of time to attend many activities other than the Apres Midi's Adrian Leeds has every other month, with interesting speakers. We are also thinking while expat groups are nice, we'd like to join social groups that will allow us to get to know more French people in our community.

Thank you so much for such an encouraging video. I'm wondering if there are additional senior discounts for other areas of living?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 8 дней назад
I don't know. Most of my research was on things available to us as seniors in Nice and I haven't found many other than senior prices for tram passes, discount cards for seniors on trains. Not sure what kinds of discounts you're looking for and where in France you're considering. Google is a great resource for just about everything. That's where I begin.

@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Merci. I am looking at Nice, and was just wondering if seniors receive those familiar perks often available in the U.S. I will be meeting with Adrian Leeds later this month. Thank you, again.
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 7 дней назад
@robintillotson5665 again, the only senior discounts we have noted are for the tram. You can purchase a Senior Discount Card for 49 Euros per year , from SNCF, for discounted train travel (around 30% off most train travel around France). Other than those two we have not seen any other senior discounts so far. But the cost of living here in France, is less than what we were paying in the US, in general. So if you're coming to retire, from a place in the US that was an expensive place to live, like we did (Naples, Florida) it makes life in Nice quite affordable.

An, Jeff, I finally watched your tour of your apartment! Adorable! I personally loved all the antics furniture, especially wine glass cabinet. I would not change anything - it is so beautiful in your living room! I have a question - do you have neighbors above your apartment and on the same floor? How is the noise from nearby apartments? And one more question - do you experience mosquitoes season? If yes, how do you deal with them? Thank you! Lena
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 8 дней назад
Yes, we have neighbors above us and next to us. Our building is very quiet. We do occasionally here 2 little children who live above us, running across their floor. And if they drop something that makes noise when it hits the ground. One time it sounded like they dropped a bag of marbles. It's very rare. Most people in the building are our age and we never hear them. No loud music. No loud parties. It is mosquito season now, however we have put lots of geraniums on our terrace that keeps them away from our apartment. So far I think we had 1 mosquito in the apartment. Other people we see here in Nice talk about a problem with mosquitoes because they don't have Air conditioning and sleep with their windows open. We keep our windows closed in the evening. We had more mosquitoes in Florida than we have ever had here. We have never even had any problems walking home at night. Maybe it is because we're away from the water where they breed.

'Apéro' is the best concept ever! And in SW France, near Spain, it kind of becomes a bit of a hybrid with the Spanish concept of tapas - tapas-type food is made for apéro, and always an apéritif drink. Very often friends come over or invite you over just for 'apéro' rather than coming over for a entire dinner party. It really is a cultural institution. Sliced chorizo on a baguette with rich french butter, and a glass of iced half-lemonade/half red wine (tinto de verano) or sangria... Guests from the US become very attached to 'apéro' while they're here and say they start doing it at home back in the US.
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 9 дней назад
We LOVE the concept of "apero" here in Nice. We've invited people for apero a couple of times since we moved here. Apero lasted well into the evening and we all ate so much we didn't really need to have dinner. I like that better, especially if I do some healthy things as part of our apero so it's isn't just a lot of calorie laden things. We have done tapas in Barcelona and other places in the world. That's wonderful too, but I prefer apero here in France. it doesn't involve a lot of cooking, just some creative shopping and plating. In my past life, I used to do these wonderful dinner parties, sometimes, 10-12 courses (all small) and people would always ask me when I'm doing another. Invitations were highly coveted. I got out of the habit of doing them in the 5 years between the end of one marriage and marrying Jeff. Now, I just don't have the energy. But "apero"... I'm always ready!

Great and informative video. As a Parisian who visits the pharmacy often for skincare, you can skip citypharma and instead go to the Monoprix Pharmacie Le Halles Mall which is actually the biggest pharmacy in Paris. It’s located underground but it’s enormous and the prices are just as good and not nearly as crowded.

Did you buy a printer after you moved to France? Or ship your American printer to your home? Are you able to use the same computer you use in Florida in France with a charger converter?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears 9 дней назад
We sold our printer in the US and bought a new printer here. We brought our tablet and laptops and simply ordered new power cables for them with European plugs, from Amazon France, once we arrived here in France. (Amazon.fr will automatically send the ones with European plugs if they are being delivered to an address in France.) I had also ordered a bunch of power adapter/converters (the kind we used to bring with us on vacations to Europe before we moved, so we can plug in the few things we brought with US plugs. (Our electric wine opener, my Amazon Firesticks for each television and our "Alexa", plus cellphones, etc) Everything works great!

Actually, they are small pebbles. You just need to wear a pair of beach/sand shoes. It's really not that big of a deal. We came from Naples, Florida with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and it's not a big deal to us that the beaches here have pebbles on them. It is what it is. This is Nice. And, BTW, there is one section of the beach, here in Nice, that we spotted that has SAND on it! What is your point?
