Colin always loved Penelope but never realised until they kissed. They are different from the other couples because they know eachother for years and the others didnt. Thats why we dont see the whole falling in love thing. Because they already are. They just needed to be in the same page and once they were they didnt wasted time. Colin know ls Penelope since they were children so is not strange for him to dont realised what exactly he feels for her. I think you should watch the other seasons again and pay more atention on their relationship because you can see him always sicking her out on events and being sweet to her. He loved her but just didnt know how. I

Benedict’s joke was great bc in the books Pen is very much seen as an honorary bridgerton. Anthony is protective of her. He walks her home, dances with her, escorts her after Cressida picks on her. So it was a great show that he would duel to protect her honor and it was a tie back to what he did for Daphne. I thinks they’ve done a great job with Colin and Pens story. It’s friends to lovers so the first 2 seasons were meant to show that they had a bond. And s2 with him uncovering the jewelry scam shows that he would do anything to protect her. This season is meant to ratchet up the sexual tension which they did with the kiss and carriage scene. The back half of the season now has to focus on them melding the physical & emotional aspects of their rlsp. Pen has spent so much time being overlooked by everyone including her family that she had to be self sufficient. She found a way to have a voice by being lady whistledown. Colin’s nature is to take care of others. His protective nature is very much going to clash with her independence. Especially when the Queen has a bounty on her and she won’t let Cressida take credit for her work as whistledown. Part 2 should be very spicy and dramatic.

Don’t feel bad for not noticing their buildup/chemistry. Colin always had subconscious romantic feelings for Penelope since seasons 1 & 2. You just have to pay close attention to his facial expressions in some of his scenes with her. The looks he gives Penelope are not platonic ones. Especially when Colin gives Penelope a look of longing in season 2 Episode 1 when he returned from his travels. Season 3 part 1 is about him finally realizing them. Don’t feel bad because you didn’t see what other people saw! I personally saw it all along so felt it was really believable and natural when it happened. You may watch the full season and just love it in the end. Either way you don’t owe anyone an apology. Your being respectful to the story and the characters and as a Polin lover that makes me happy. I went back and rewatched their scenes in s1 and 2 and there is definitely buildup it’s subtle the way he looks at her especially during the purpose scene and when he comes back during his travels. Also because the actors have talked about planting the seeds in earlier. Tbh I have always felt the chemistry but it was friendship chemistry and this season I felt the romantic. It felt very realistic because I had a similar situation happen to me lol and it’s like watching my relationship play out just less dramatic 😂
