about 7:30 - i just randomly wanted to say that this is essentially the exact same experience i had with boa too. when i was 11 i got into anime and fairy tail was the show that started it all for me. of course, boa sings one of the most iconic openings for the show (masayume chasing, what a classic) and i searched her name up out of pure curiosity. back then, i barely spoke english and in my full childish ignorance i’m like 99% sure i didn’t even know korea as a country existed, so i didn’t get why th language her songs were in sounded even More foreign than japanese and lost interest in her pretty quickly. jump ahead two years and i discovered snsd and suddenly i was sucked into the kpop hole. i can not tell you how long it took me to make the connection between ‘boa, singer of masayume chasing’ and ‘boa, queen soloist of kpop’ but when the coin finally dropped for me, it was like i discovered the meaning of life lmao. it’s amazing what a strong presence she had and still has in japan for people to completely enjoy her as a jpop jartist without really realizing her kpop background.

A Japanese band I think you'll both find interesting is Maximum the Hormone. Good starter songs are Zetsubō Billy, Yoshū Fukushū or Koi no Mega Lover. Out of the 4 members 3 sing including the female drummer.
