WE REACT TO (G)I-DLE: 'TOMBOY' - KPOP IS KILLING IT!! 

“This is a different side to K-pop.” Welcome to the Soyeon side. The rapper is their songwriter/producer and has carved (G)I-DLE a unique niche in the industry. They touch on powerful messages about being yourself, loving yourself and female empowerment. I highly recommend ‘Oh My God’, ‘Lion’ & ‘Nude’ as three key singles to review.

It's crazy, because "Tomboy" is what got me into (G)I-dle and is still one of my favorites, but I can't wait for you to really hear Soyeon rap! They have so many good songs! I recommend checking out "Lion", "My Bag", "Nxde", or "Never Stop Me" next. But ALSO if you haven't already, you should check out K/DA which is a virtual K-Pop group that Soyeon and Miyeon from (G)I-dle are in, and feature some of my favorite Soyeon raps. Probably start with "Pop/Stars".

Soyeon (rapper) writes most of their songs with 2 other members Yuqi (pink hair) and Minnie (bangs) also have written a few b-sides on their albums They participate in the direction of the mv, their concepts, outfits, song selection etc Their songs reflect what they like and they make music because they love to. With this being said, they have a diverse discography with no particular/main music genre I recommend checking out these MVs from them: Lion (l2019) oh my god (2020), Hwaa (2021), My bag (2022) and Nxde (2022) then maybe check out their earlier songs Latata (debut 2018), Hann (2018), Uh oh(2019)and Senorita(2019) which are really awesome too Looking forward to you delving more into (G)I-dle!!

Thank you for your reaction I-DLE is one with its own genre Quick informations, they are currently 5 (Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, Shuhua) and started as 6 (Soojin left the group in August 2021), they produce their songs (which is unfortunately still really rare for a female K-pop group), all their major songs are produced by the leader and rapper of the group Soyeon, all their songs since their 2nd mini album are produced by Soyeon, Minnie and Yuqi (3 members of the group) They are versatile and do many kind of music but still remain coherent with themselves (thanks to their ability to produce themselves) I highly recommend: Nxde (most recent major song from them), Lion, Oh my God, Hann and Hwaa These songs show their versatility, the deepness of the lyrics, and their ability to bring and carry concepts (they are also the main director of their concepts, which once again is still rare for female K-pop groups)

You might want to check out some songs from their latest album. The M/V for Nxde (or Nude) is killer and has a great message.

Miyeon in this music video was actually a trainee with Blackpink and there is a picture of her being the fifth member before debut, but she left YG before they could start. She's great in (g)I-dle

(G)I-dle Nxde is great! The writer Soyeon loves to turn expectations around and talk about just being yourself against society's expectations!

If you liked this version, there is a K-pop/rock band called Xdinary Heroes (same company as Stray Kids) who does amazing covers (BMTH's Drown, Nothing but thieves' Impossible, and others) and particularly they did a rocker version of Tomboy, it was AMAZING. You should check it out and if you're interested you could also listen to some of their songs which are very very good!

G-Idle's rapper, Soyeon, writes all their title tracks and most of their songs. They and Dreamcatcher are definitely NOT what kpop is; they pay their bills by doing what no one else will. Your viewers are taking good care of you recommending the stand-outs.

Cannot say enough about this group. I saw them live in Chicago last year, and they crushed it. I liked them before the concert, but I became a fan during the concert. Yuqi has one of the most distinctive vocal tones in the industry and Soyeon is easily one of the best rappers (male or female).

(Their whole discography is a masterpiece imo.) Jeon Soyeon (rapper/black-haired girl) is the leader and she's also the producer and songwriter of nearly all of their songs. She also decides the concepts, distributes lines to members, takes active roles in the mv making process etc. I remember her saying she's even in charge of their nails! Minnie (the black-haired girl with braids in the beginning) and Yuqi (pink haired girl) are producers as well but like I said, it's mostly Soyeon that makes the songs. They are also the only self-produced girl group in k-pop. Since they are that good, please check out more (g)i-dle content when you have time! (G)I-dle is a completely different group, since they are almost entirely self-written and produced. They are one of the most popular groups in their generation. I've never seen any of their comebacks sound like anything else. Nxde is the most recent and most awarded, Hwaa is absolutely stunning and Senorita, Uh-Oh, and oh my god. Their B-sides are so so so good, like Luv U, $$$, Liar, Never Stop Me, Reset, Change, Dark (X-File), My Bag. Soyeon's (the leader and rapper and main producer) solo work is great too, and I highly recommend checking out Is this bad b*** number (featuring BiBi and Mi Youngji) to get a taste of her absolute rapping genius that isn't always shown in (G)I-dle songs. Soyeon was also on Unpretty Rapstar and has some amazing rap battles from that.

Gidle isn't for everyone but they for sure knows how to keep things interesting. I recommend their Queendom Put It Straight stage performance.

Some recommendations for g-idle: Oh my God Lion Nude Senorita Also another great group to check out is mamamoo, the vocal queens of kpop. Definitely check out their songs starry night & egotistic. Another thing to check out from them is their killing voice video which showcases a little bit of each of their songs & their abilities as singers (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). their vocals are crazy & have some of the best ranges in kpop.

I think Lion MV and My Bag choreography will give you an idea what they have. They never sound the same. A lot of connections to BLACKPINK, Meyeon was supposed to debut as the fifth member and Minnie is one of Lisa’s best friends from Thailand.

You should check out their song "Uh Oh". It's kind of a throwback to 90s hip-hop.

This is used to be my fav girl group (when the main dance was in the group). They deliver the in-depth message of their own via pieces, which is rare in K-pop, since the leader is a talented songwriter/rapper. Sigh, really hope the main dancer was not quit.

It's been great to see you guys reacting to so many types of music. 2nd week of me being totally shocked at what you guys react to, first Dreamcatcher, my favorite GG, and now (G)I-dle my 2nd favorite GG. Both are so talented and are pioneers in their own way.

Miyeon and Soyeon from (G)I-dle are also the singing voices of Ahri and Akali in the virtual k-pop group, K/DA from League of Legends. You guys should react to K/DA - Pop/Stars. That’s an awesome song and the video has over 500 million views.

I truly hope you react to ALL things (G)I-DLE! They debuted in 2018 and were THE MONSTER ROOKIES that year, with some huge record-setting wins. They won prizes in such a very short amount of time after debut that they held at least one record with Guinness. They are considered to be of the Fourth Generation of K-Pop (I believe we are still technically in the Fourth Gen but I will let somebody else explain the time table, I am no expert). They are just awesome all the way around. Their duality is a real thing; total badasses on stage or filming MVs but absolute cute sweethearts and crack-heads when on interview shows, goofing around or just going for dinner. One thing that I love about this group is their inclusivity. When they debuted, there were six members and HALF of them were foreigners in Korea. Now that they are down to five members, they are foreign-heavy. One from Thailand (literal royal family lineage), one from China and one from Taiwan. They are also obviously supporters of the LGBTQ community, because love is love. Absolute sweethearts, like I said. One member was rail-roaded by their own stupid company over the MERE ACCUSATION that she was a bully back when she was twelve years old, half her life ago. The accusation turned out to be false but the company had already made such a huge show of 'making an example of her' that she left the group (for the good of the group) and the company fired her MONTHS later, before the court case was even finished. They were trying to save the company's reputation with such blind fervor that they failed to see what they had done until it was far too late. She was INNOCENT of the accusation. And the execs likely still don't care that they ruined somebody's life, anyway. All of her years of training, when she could have been in school for some other job, years of devoting her entire life to the entertainment industry, becoming the Main Dancer of this awesome group; all wasted because some ass at the top could not be bothered to be Human. The REAL scandal was the company's shitty treatment of their talent. This was not the first time they have screwed over their own people instead of protecting them, but it is the biggest blow-up for them so far. What is the purpose of a big company? Is part of that NOT for protecting their employees? This company has proven multiple times to be WORSE THAN USELESS in that department. I want Cube Entertainment permanently out of business. I want to somehow bankrupt the asses in the executive positions, I want their lives ruined like they have done to their own employees. But we have to find homes for their talented artists, first. Or Soyeon could build her own company; she has all the skills to do everything at the technical levels, except for the Money side of the business.

While Blackpink has a distinct style and sound, I would say G-idle is known for doing drastically different concepts for each comeback. It's what they're known for. Soyeon (the black-haired rapper who put Ken in the blender) is a genius. Not only does she excel in rap, dance, and singing but she controls the group's discography and concepts. There are only a few k-pop groups (not including Blackpink- no hate) who have such a large control over what music they put out, the concepts for each comeback, and the group's style. And G-idle is one of these few. It is why this group is known for putting out content that is seen in Korea as risky and controversial. Hope you guys enjoy their stuff!

A huge differential for (G)I-dle is that they are one of the few selfmade/self produced female groups in kpop. Jeon Soyeon, the group leader and rappers has written and produced ALL of their title songs since their debut as well as most of their songs, with Yuqi and Minnie joining recently in the writting and producing. Besides that, Soyeon also have conceptualized all their comebacks, co-directed their MVs and even coreographed the songs (w/ Soojin's participation - their former main dance who unfortunately was forced to leave the group). Soyeon is considered by many a genius and a prodigy and has being recognized for her talents since she was a highschooler trainee (her participation in the rapping competition 'Unpretty Rapstar' when she was 15 garnered her a lot of attention). She's so much in charge of the group that she helped the company to select the other girls and even opted to select different vocal coaches for each so they would preserve their own vocal styles and techniques. Lastly, (G)Idle is a very diverse group and they are known to completely transform for each comeback with their respective concepts. Recommendations: Nxde, Lion, Oh My God, My Bag

They are the best of this generation. Nobody can stop them. Everything they do is different, and in a different way. You NEVER know what to expect from these girls. and its pretty fabulous.....

Soyeon the main rapper produces all of their music. She even vocally produces each member in the booth.

I'll probably take a hit for this from fans, but I think of G-Idle as the Pink Floyd of Kpop girl groups. They always try to make a statement in their songs.

I've found K-pop pretty interesting to explore myself. It's definitely been an eye opening experience as far as my expectations. (G)-Idle is really good. And as Criss P. mentions below 2 of the members provide voices for K/DA. A virtual K-pop girl group formed by Riot Games from League of Legends characters. My personal preference for groups is Mamamoo. One of the best vocal groups in K-pop. Their Killing Voice performance is a great place to start.

There's two type of kpop : the mainstream groups who just sing and dance on songs made by their company, and the ones like (g)i-dle, bts, bibi, jackson wang... who write and/or compose and/or produce their songs, and these artists made REALLY different sound. Take a look at Bibi's 'Animal farm' or 'Jotto' M/V, it's unique, and so are many of (g)i-dle songs like oh my god, or even many b-side like vilain dies, etc...

Oh My God is my favorite song by these young women. It's just next level for me personally lol.

The entire album this song is from is honestly great -- I'd be hard pressed to give any single song I like the best from it tbh The goal for all kpop groups is to find their uniqueness and fill that space, I think, so you'll often find really interesting sounds or concepts from a lot of groups. The big groups usually get big because they find that place and blossom in it or they have members that make you wanna watch that journey while they still try to find that place. If you want to try more female artists or girl groups, there's Red Velvet, BIBI, CL, Sunmi, BoA, Hyuna, ITZY... there's many good ones, but those might be some good starts

(G)I-dle is going to be my favorite group as for the 4th generation. They're like the 4th generation of BlackPink as being 3rd generation.

Soyeon (rapper) used to be a strong discourse to join Blackpink*] but was canceled by the company. The reason is because Blackpink already has two rappers, Jennie and Lisa. Even though it has passed the photo session and has been printed.

MIYEON one of the members of G-IDLE was going to debut with BLACKPINK, but it is rumored that she was kicked out because she got romantically involved with a boy from YG ENTERTAINMET, but she is super talented and G-IDLE is already her new family.
