Hey all ❤️ We listened to the studio version and the live version of Black Dog back to back in one sitting so we can enjoy both! The live version is filmed in another video. Pick your favorite 🤘🔥

Can you please do some Dave Matthews Band reactions soon please. I suggest the "Bartender" Luve version Dave & Tim. Or the song "PIG" again live version. Always choose the Live version of songs for Dave Matthew's Band maybe the most talented group of musicians on the planet.

Thank you for doing my pick! It’s interesting how you feel detached, but remember that back in 1971 there were no live videos of the band. There was no RU-vid the only way you can see the band live is when they came to your town. So we listened to the studio recordings over and over and over again, and there was no feeling of being detached because that’s all you had. And the bands also spent a lot of time on the studio recordings. Because they knew that it’s all we would have to listen to unless you were lucky enough to see them live! Love ya!❤

Apparently there was a black dog wandering around the country house where the band wrote or recorded the song - hence the name of the song!

Listen carefully to the off-beat drumming in the verses - it takes super-human rhythm to do it as good as this. They were all in their mid twenties when they recorded this!!
@GSRAW88
@GSRAW88 4 месяца назад
I wouldn't say super human rhythm. I've heard a lot of drummers testify to playing jazz, prior to rock. Before prog rock started evolving, many of the chord changes and drumming in classic rock was jazz influenced.

When it comes to Led Zeppelin in my opinion you should listen to the studio versions first then the live versions second. Because you can hear what they wanted you to hear first, then the live version so you can hear how they played around with the song live. Kind of like one is in the school room (Studio) and the other (Live) is on the playground during recess.

The young lady has a good ear for rhythm. She identified the time changes and also near the end, she locked into the cool drum line. That final drum part is fairly simple but very fun and satisfying to play.

Great to see you two experience Zeppelin. I cannot hear them for the first time as I have been listening to them for decades. Being able to watch someone else experience the greatest band of all time is awesome. Your right on with the missing beat, they have quite a few of those gems in their catalog.

I like the studio version, because it was the first Led Zeppelin song I ever heard and understood it was Zep. It's also got a very iconic guitar sound, involves some sort of Jimmy Page studio trickery overdriving direct inputs into a recording/mixing console and compressor trickery. I saw the JHS pedals guy talk about it on one of his RU-vid videos. The bassist, JPJ, wrote the guitar riff actually. But live stuff is great too, you just need to understand they were kind of a jam band, and really played LIVE, for 3-3.5 hour concerts often because they just liked playing.

The part that sound off-beat is called polyrhythms, in this case, the guitar riff and the bass are being played on a different time signature than the drums until they match with each other. Also, the name of the song really has nothing to do with the lyrics. As long as they were having trouble to find a title for the track, they decided to do kind of a homage for a black dog that kept appearing on the mansion's yard where they were recording the album.

Back in the day records stores would open at midnight on days when there was a new release. People would be lined up outside the store when they opened to be one of the first to own the new Zeppelin album. Then we would all gather at someone's house and have a listening party. Their third album was great but it didn't sell quite as many as their second album and the critics were saying that they had already peaked. Then Led Zeppelin IV dropped and this was the first song everyone heard as soon as you cued it up, and it only got better from there. I can't remember how long this album stayed at the top of the charts but it broke all records at that time.

Hi. I'm the guy who first recommended Led Zeppelin to you guys. At that time, I recommended Stairway to Heaven (studio version) which you did, and you loved it. In the same comment where I recommended Stairway, I also recommended the studio version of "Since I've Been Loving You", which you didn't do. Instead, you did the live MSG version. Not as good. Not even in the same ballpark. You guys really should revisit that song and listen to the studio version. Honestly, the studio version versus live version of Black Dog, meh, not a big deal either way...6 of one, half a dozen of the other. "Since I've Been Loving" studio version versus live version, a much bigger deal. If you guys listen to it, you'll know what I'm talking about. Like the studio version of "Stairway to Heaven", the studio version of "Since I've Been Loving You" will show you the true power, magic, and majesty that is Led Zeppelin, and it will touch your soul. I got you started on this train, and trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong. Peace

With every band in the 50s -70s, sometimes, you get a live performance that was recorded well, with good sound, ect. Mostly, film clips look dated and non consistant, so there are live shows that will be great and others where some of the songs just did not come out well. Usually, what they produce in the studio is what they want the song to sound like. Before 1979, videos of bands were mostly non existent unless they were on a variety show as a guest. Video tape itself was invented in the 70s and not really in use until nearly 1980.

Ok , I see you guys like live version better, and I get that. But, If you listen to both versions without the visual, the studio version is cleaner, crisper, and the lyrics are way cleaner. When singing in concert day after day 2 hrs a show, the voices are a little raspy, and even the instruments may drag a little. I for one am glad you did the studio version first. I think it helped you like the live version better, if that makes any sense, lol

If you receive conflicting advice about whether to listen to the studio version or the live version first, I suggest that you start with the studio version. The studio version is the proper "official" song, whereas, during live performances, bands often play around with the song with ad hoc variations, improvise, and jam to extend the length of the performance of the song.

Always the studio version. Well, almost always. I have not heard a Led Zeppelin live song that I have liked. I've almost liked one or two live versions, but then my mind would go to how good the studio version sounds, and I would end up hating the live version.

@caracoidwren944

I think I speak for the majority--although what you hear is always what I think is a loud vocal minority--that the studio version is always superior to the live versions. You just miss so much of the song in the live versions. The sound balance gets mixed up, the band may be partially spent from a long concert--notes are missed or not totally synched and the vocals can be blown out after hours of work out. Also you run against extra long solos and other "tweaks" that are great if you are actually attending the concert in that the band wants to provide each audience with a unique experience; but frankly, if any of these changes were included in the studio version because they were superior, they would have been. That said, doing reactions to both is a great idea. I would like the reactor to react to the best version of the song first because the purpose of a reaction video isn't to learn something about the song or see it from a different perspective, it is to find someone else who loves the song upon hearing it for the first time and the connection you feel with the reactor when they express it. You may have heard it a thousand times before but when you see someone reacting to it the first time as opposed to listening to it alone, it's like experiencing Christmas with or without kids around. You pick up on the magic of Christmas all over again from the freshness and joy of the kids around you. You don't want a different version of Christmas with a barbecued teriyaki turkey or a plastic Christmas tree, you want the kids to experience Christmas at its very best. Just like you want the reactor to experience the song at its very best. Kashmir live is one you guys reacted to but it loses so much power in that live version. Should you ever decide to react to the studio version, just be sure you've got the lyrics with it, which are quite magical and without having them around you just can't follow along with the journey they would have taken you on.
