hello hello lil cherubs! in today's video i am re-reading Colleen Hoover's book, November 9, with my good pal ‪@jakethatcher_‬
Jake having never read a Colleen Hoover book, I knew I had to invite him on and read the most problematic book I have read to date. This video was originally supposed to be a video essay on Colleen Hoover books, and the romanticization of abusive relationships, and non-consensual events, but there are so many incredible videos already dissecting the problem with many of miss hoover's books, so instead we are leading you with a bedtime story while we rip it a new one. hope u enjoy! xoxo nikki nasty

This book is actually sick. The way her mother is like "yeah he burned you, but his mom died and we can't blame him for LITERALLY COMMITING A CRIME AND RUINUNG YOUR LIFE. You need to show him some respect. You don't understand what he's gone through." That's so toxic oml. And CoHo is such an influential author that I'm sure some people are actually TAKING THIS ADVICE when it is the opposite of what the mother should be saying.
@roxirock5455
@roxirock5455 Год назад
Yes, he scared her for life, both fizically and mentally. That is something you shouldn't just brush over. Even if he did it by accident, that doesn't mean she should forgive him. And the fact that Colleen made HER apologize for not leasing to him is the worse thing someone can be sharing to an impressionable audience. The mom is the worse character in my opinion. She acts like Fallon owns respect to that b*ch after all he did to her. Let's count here: he, accidentally, burned her while commiting a crime he never got the punishment for, he stalked her and her father, he sexualized her scars and acted like an ass, telling her what to wear and belittled her for the way she reacts to her trauma, WICH he caused, he LIED to her and ,in the original, r$ped her. His justification for all this is that his mom k$lled herself? Boy I don't care if your hole family died right in front of you, that doesn't justify his behavior. And SHE apologize to HIM??? K*ll me now.

And there’s this other guy named Atlas who was this homeless boy that she cared for and fell in love with when she was like fifteen, he makes a reappearance in her life now that he’s all successful, neurosurgeon dude finds out about this guy, abuses her some more for it, gets her pregnant, and in the end she divorces him and chooses Atlas coz he’s nice or whatever. @@lakshmirekha9168 LMAO the plot was so unserious. YA Romance authors need to explain why their "romance" involves only sex and no actual romantic chemistry between the protagonists. All Lily and Ryle had was sexual tension, and barely, due to poor writing. Same in Ugly Love (the only other book by her I've read). I know I am late to this party, but as someone who is married to someone who is a burn victim, I just want to grab the author by the shoulders and shake her until a little bit of empathy enters her brain. I do not think of my husband as ugly. But his scars are not sexy. His selfworth issues are not just his fault; the constant staring, commenting, asking when he gets his face fixed, these things are the reasons why he feels shit about himself. Sex is difficult, because scarred skin limits movement. And the fact that the girl in the story is manipulated into forgiving her tormentor is pissing me off so much. Because they tried the same thing with my husband. Obviously, completely different circumstances, but he also was constantly told that he should be more forgiving to the people who caused the accident. This book makes me so mad. Thank you for reading this. You two made it bearable.

The author, Colleen Hoover writes almost all her characters white and absolutely all her characters are similar to each other. Her female characters are portrayed as helpless and manipulated by their love interest, which in all the books are portrayed as similar to each other with exactly the same personality. What's funny is that all her female characters forgive their psychotic boyfriends, and in the bookstores it will be labeled as romance, the author identifies her books as ROMANCE when it clearly is NOT romance! I can't do anything but conclude that the author wrote these stories of hers one day in 2001 or something, and based all of her characters on herself, those characters are (most definitely) herself in an insane fanfic she wrote in her early 20s.

it’s almost concerning, like is she a victim?? it’s assumed that her and her husband have an age gap and they got married when she was 20 - seems like maybe she’s coping with something

all her characters arent only similar, theyre *identical*. ive watched so many people read through her booms for criticism and theyre all written with the same exact characters. no real drive for anything but what’s convenient for the plot, but in the same exact way that they’re all the same reused characters.

The worst thing about is that it makes young teens believe it is normal. I thought it was weird and when i tried to talking to my friends about it but they thought it was romantic but after i discussed it with some sane people they told me that this was f ed up.

The thing is even when she writes about a protagonist older than a teenager, she puts her into an insanely inappropriate age gap relationship (it ends with us: girl 23 love interest 30 + also a love interest who was into her when she was 15 and he I think 18)

My friends are obsessed with CoHo and they tell me about all these “romantic plots” and I just listen absolutely traumatized. The worst part is that they think they’re the absolute fucking best books ever written. It disgusts me that the WattPad books I used to read had better plot and messages than CoHo books. And my friends try to counter act my “the sexual fucking assault,” with, “oh you read wattpad when you were 12,” like that wasn’t about being in love with someone who sexually assaulted you. CoHo disgusts me and I have no idea how she even got so popular

what does that wattpad thing mean?? are they insinuating that people who read wattpad are oversensitive or sheltered or something? because there was a lot of real messed up stories on there that i remember girls reading on their ipads at my high school. it's very sad when i read paperback YA novels with relationships like CH's because i always felt those situations were weirdly romantic, yet somewhat uncomfortable and i couldn't figure out why i would put the book down when others would obsess over it. and now that i've gone through my trial and error with guys, i understand the meaning of enthusiastic consent w/ my boyfriend, who consistently asks "is this OK?" / "can i do this?" / "do you want me to stop?" if he ever gets the idea i may be uncomfortable. THAT is romance. these hoover books are toilet paper for all they're worth. you should never continue sexually interacting with someone who is showing signs of disinterest🤢

I feel like I'm sitting in my bedroom trashing this book with my two friends and I love it. I really hate the fetishization of her scars. I have scars from self harm all over my body and ngl it makes me super uncomfy the way they describe her burns and her feelings about them. It's very normal to feel insecure about scars but in the context of the book it's very icky. I would be super weirded out if a guy/girl/nonbinary-pal I'm in a relationship with kept wanting to touch and talk about my scars.

As someone with similar scars (very faded now, luckily) its definitely an ick seeing that he depicts it as "sexy"- I feel like it shouldn't be the narrative of: "Scars are why you're hot" and instead: "Your scars don't make you ugly"
