Dude, why are people so hung up on changing out the Pistons, a big waste to replace all the Pistons if you don't need to. You only replace that which is broken. The YOUNG LADY IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CORRECT WITH GOOD COMMON SENSE!!! Thanks 👍
Correct Jason, but [O]Liv[ia and Danny are completely incorrect, wrong with not cleaning all of the carbon deposits off the pistons, inside the heads, valves as they did within the cylinders The carbon deposits result in detonation which results in harm. All of that effort to open the engine, disassemble, examine everything, also remove every piston, change the bearings, hone the cylinders and not clean, wife, remove the carbon deposits from the pistons, heads, valves is obvious, clear, silly, foolish nonsense !! Everyone that does a refresh as this certainly cleans and removes all carbon deposits ! They clearly need to modify the fuel mixture and perhaps the fuel. But why are obviously very ignorant and refuse to accept the proper, correct, valid knowledge which is known for over 5 to 6 decades to over 120 years. Ethanol and methanol are far better hydrocarbon fuels with hydrogen is the best. @GNARLY SPEED SHOP @GnarlySpeedShop The inline fuel filter is certainly an improvement, but a 10 num replacement filter is far better for the fuel injection system. Adding, Switching to having "Flex-Fuel" for variable and high ethanol content is far better too. However, Ignorant Fools will remain to be foolish accepting the false incorrect ideas, claims, information from those with improper, incorrect, invalid information lacking proper knowledge known form over 140 years. Blogs, certainly 'comments' along with many involved in building, racing are certainly among those with incorrect, invalid, improper, false base, basis. The actual professionals have connection with the proper knowledge. Among the best available on-line are David Vizard, Lake Speed, Jr.. much from Steve Morris, , add especially EFI University, R.E. D which are actual engineers as Lake Speed, Jr. Certainly add experts as PME, Dennis and similar professional engineering, competent, engine builders as Ed Pink. Among the most common is ignorance with, about fuels, lubrication and proper operating temperature. All The Best and Much Success in Your Quest(s), Health, Happiness and Well Being 😊, Sincerely ☺ P.S. If You will check the CA Law, ask any PD officer, Sheriff, it is required to have the CA license plates-tags with the appropriate valid sticker on the front and rear of the vehicle along with the required registration and insurance information. Danny should already know this, since he has been loving in CA all these years, as i did when living there too [1982-1993]. Personally appreciate the older blue metal painted license tags, plates. They look especially very good with this 1967 GTO too! have been thinking often, many times about the specific 417 NPR and the meaning for this vehicle. Have You figured out a meaning yet ?
I reused all my lq4 positions. Just put new rings on them and clean them up. been running my lq4 for year's now still to very day since 2017 and not one problem
@@optimisticpessimist484 Do You have any actual chemistry, physics, engineering, engine mechanics to substantiate Your claims with accuracy ??!! NO -> Your attempted falsehood instruction failed => Good Luck, Bye Bye
Congratulations on a great engine build! Had a '67 Tempest, one of my favorite cars ever! Always got a lot of comments whenever I drove it! Love your channel and the surfing music! You both are a lot of fun! 😊👍🏻🏝
I had two strokes and two heart attacks restoring my Ride. I love your posts and progress ❤ Hopefully next year I can make Myrtle Beach Run. Keep up the awesome work.
What that expert says can't possibly be better than my internet comments. No way! Clean the top of those pistons! lol. Even if you don't clean off those pistons, you're still an inspiration.
Congratulations guys, outstanding effort, your excitement is infectious. The methodology you use in solving the problems you've faced, is a testament to your work ethic. Really nice shop as well.
Im just seeing this now after watching your other video.I didnt know you had it back together already..I think you made the right call not cleaning the tops of the other pistons. Some pistons have a protecive coating on them, and by using a wire brush, you might remove that coating..Im so glad everything turned out ok
Congrats on getting "Big Wave" back on the road! Such a great reward to accomplish that. I know that journey to get there as well. Keep up the great work! 🤙
Hello, yeah that one piston is going to darken up within a few miles any way. Just keep doing what you been doing. Have fun doing it, the minute you get to serious, and listen to everyone else, its not fun any more. Stay safe , blessings. Cheers. 😊
Good Job on the Tempest!...I just noticed the "OHC6" (inline6) badge on the front fender so its cool that its a 6 litre engine that you guys installed.... I come from a Pontiac family so I really enjoyed this content !....My dream car is a 67 GTO....keep up the great work.!!
Really appreciate the video and sharing it with us, that's for Danny 😂. Only at 15:00 ish now, but things are looking great, can't wait to see the Pontiac back up and running for good. 🍻... Big Wave is awesome! Glad to see all is well.
That’s my fav car too!! I had 3 67 custom tempests back in high school…my nicest 67 I kept for 10 yrs….i love your videos!!! Wish I still had my 67 post car too….
OMG!!! Do you know what's going to happen if you don't clean those piston tops? NOTHING!!!! LOL. Great job Liv. Just remember, 98% of the people on here that like to drop some of those awesome comments have never left their couch, much less accomplish what you have. Especially being a woman wrenching on cars. Anyone that's wrenched on cars have been clueless. EVERYONE has to learn. No matter gender. My hat is off to you. You have learned so much. Be proud of yourself.
Happy Happy for you both! I love your channel. I have a 1977 ford van with full on rust and your channel made me appreciate the patina 😂❤ You guys rock. Great couple together much respect seen between you two❤ Get that baby tuned in before the big hills for the wave 😂
I have two classic Buicks. A '56 Special and a '65 Skylark. Both are virtually stock with some minor improvements to the brakes and suspension. I get looks everywhere I go. The classic car community is really the best. My '65 Skylark is no beauty queen but I drive the heck out of it. I love seeing that old Tempest on the highway.
I totally get it the classic hotrod thingy. Makes me miss my older cars from high school i bought cheap or people just gave me. My fav was a 64' Buick Wildcat 455 engine 4 barrel carb w/ baby blue interior marsh mellow white with all polished perfect chrome bumpers.
Sweet ride girl! Seen you being interviewed by VGG and talking about your Tempest and seen this and had to check it out. Got a subscriber here as soon as I saw the fishing pole in the front when you were taking off lol. Great content Sweet Tempest enjoy!
Great dedication and not getting dismayed by a few setbacks! After all Rome wasn’t built in a day! And neither are 6liter engines!😊 “ Big Wave” is big time!!!👍Congrats👏
Love your Car good job. I good my baby two years 1966 GTO it's have been park for 30 years And I been working on it hope to have it on the road..soon.. Its a Pontiac i think that i will cry when i get it back on the road...😢
The fact they didn't clean the 'tops of the piston's' means absolutely nothing because 100 miles down the road, every piston will look exactly the same. Glad you got it back together. I'll stop right there.
Congratulations!!!! She lives!! The Tempest when new was considered a mid-size car for reals! The Bonneville was the full size coupe or 4 dr sedan. Smart decision going with the V-Band clamps, they've been used in the aerospace industry since the 1940's!! They don't leak ever!! Beautiful views from the top of the road as well as the beach-side on the PCH. Both of you did a great job on the Tempest -- well done!!!
Yaa-Hoo!!!! The Tempest is a pretty neat old Hot Rod Pontiac. The underneath is the best with all the fresh Trick parts. There is no real rust problems. The interior is all cleaned up. All in all a pretty COOL car!! Now it sounds healthy and runs Great too!!!
Never ever start a freshly assembled engine without using a preoiler to get all of the air bubbles out of the oil passages or the top end is going to run dry while the engine oil pump is trying to purge the airlocks out. Assuming you use a good assembly lube, probably no harm was dome. But listening to those hammering lifters made my teeth hurt. Anyway - nice engine.
Olivia I'm with you, the simplicity of a carburetor is nice and ironically a bad indicator hurt your baby. With a good old 4150 Holley that motor would still be alive and finished your trip. Blessings guys really enjoy your shop time and adventures
I’m sooo very proud of you for not getting discouraged like so many people would. You rolled up your sleeves and jumped right in. And rode that Big Wave all the way to shore. And a bid shout out to Gnarly Race Shop for always having your back. Much respect! 🎉❤❤🎉
Congratulations on getting Big Wave back on the road where it belongs. Theres no need to replace all the pistons with such little time on them. They should do just fine. Looking forward to seeing your adventurea in Big Wave. Again, congratulations on a job well done. 😉
Ya do what u want 2 do. And from what I have seen u r not doing anything wrong. That's what building cars should b is having fun and learning new things.
Kinda like instant replay Danny. After the lifters sound got quite. Sounds a lot better. The Tempest is alive again. Looking great. So far. Watched this car from the beginning. Big Wig is a keeper. No driving it off a cliff. Just some Patina sauce to shine up.
Congratulations on finally finishing the Ponting project! 😂 Where are you guys? I guess its L.A. right? That must have been so exciting and a big relief to drive it and know she's okay. The big unanswered question is what was the diagnosis of the piston? Did she put it in the wrong way? Thats an important step in building engines. I didn't or we didn't find out what caused the scoring on the piston. Don't worry there is no way to learn without making mistakes. In fact if your not making mistakes your not trying hard enough. Nobody wants to fk up unfortunately you can't make gains with errors. Always right down the steps to check. I always do it methodically and recheck everything at least three times. I remember building something and rechecked it for the third time. Thats when I discovered a mistake. Make check lists so you can check each component on a piece of paper. Anyway this was a fun video and wow what a gorgeous day in Los Angeles! That coast line what a view! 😂❤👍👏🙋🏻♂️🇦🇺 Australia
Congratulations, I'm curious as to how the injector flow test came out. Also, you should get some shine juice from Derik at vice grip garage for the beauty.
What caused the piston to fail? I think we all would like to know, and maybe learn something. Hope you get many trouble free miles now that you have the Pontiac on the road again 👍
10:34 Band clamps, like what is used on large trucks, work well for sealing when the downstream pipe is inside the upstream pipe. Muffler shops insert the TP this way but then generally weld it to make it leak-free. But you want to remove your mufflers in the future, so a band clamp is a potential solution. There are band clamps for butt-jointed pipes and for overlapping pipes - make sure to get the right type. Also, slather the OD of the tailpipe with anti-seize before you put it into the muffler to help with future disassembly.
That was quick. There’s a 66 GTO shell for sale that’s a original 4 speed 389 car and I looked at it but I’m just to old now to get involved in another project. I’m very happy for you getting it back on the road.
Hey Liv everyone who comments on what you’ve should have done aren’t in it. Nothing wrong with using those pistons if they were cleaned and inspected. They weren’t in there that long. I felt bad for your 6.0 going south. Looking forward to the next start!
what an amazing job on the car, got few ideas for your "next job" on the car, one get a serious paint job and last convert the back to a convertible so it can be ready again for summer trips and fun in the sun driving wind in your hair
