These types of videos make me so frustrated because all i see is them creating more trash that's going to go in a landfill. Let's be honest here, they are not going to wear these shoes they are going to throw them away.

I feel like this was made to be way more difficult than necessary. idk what’s up with buzzfeed and the badly done DIYs but I guess that’s their aesthetic. all you needed were five finger shoes, some shoe paints, glue and a heel.

I think having an exact-o knife handy when doing DIYs would be helpful for next time! i think the croc idea was smart but needed a better utensil to cut.

So I get it totally, there are things that are so out there that they never become mainstream, things like bants/bootpants/legging boots or Vetements’ gloved bodysuits they are all a bit too futuristic for people to accept. So the cheap dupes never get made in mass quantities. So what can one do apart from trying to DIY it? I respect the effort but I feel like it would have helped to have someone who is less creative and more technical on board, an “engineering consult” because behind all those beautiful shoes is a lot of engineering, from finding maintaining structural integrity to correct use of adhesives. One common example that baffles me is the use of E6000 not just here but in a lot of DIY, great general adhesive but has too long a bonding time. On the other hand a lot of the materials we are using here are porous and flexible so a specific leather and fabric glue, especially solvent based ones, would perform better here. Sure it performs better with liberal use of a rubber mallet, but that’s another point, use the appropriate tools.
