I just finished watching the Happy Days episode where Ritchie and Potsie buy their 1st car and that rescue reminded me of Howards car lol. Always satisfying to see a successful rescue especially watching a couple guys who have their shit together, can always tell this is never you fellers first rodeo lol. We`re dairy farmers and the old buildings reminded me of the abandoned barns we tore down for salvage when i was a kid. In between hay crops and other work to keep us kids busy. My dad always knew of huge old barns sitting empty that he would offer to remove just for the expense of cleaning it up. The amount of pristine old growth lumber, the old wavy style galvanized roofing still shiny new underneath with manufacturers stamps and logos visible like new, beautiful ornate cast hinge and horse stall hardware and many 5 gallon pails of square nails i pulled, i`ve pulled enough nails to last me a lifetime! lol Unfortunately many valuable treasures ended up going for scrap but thankfully all of that 100 plus year old lumber found new homes, IF WE ONLY KNEW THEN WHAT WE KNOW NOW!! LOL
We grew up with My Dad driving a 1948 Chrysler Windsor . It was His main Transportation from the mid 50's to 1972. He was a mechanic and took good care of it. I think over the course of all those years, he rebuild the motor two or three times. He put 750,000 miles on that car. Finally in 1972 He updated to a 1963 Chrysler. Lots of memories of that old 48.
That's a special vehicle, a 1946 boat hood model Chrysler, with a 100% organic interior! Nice find that Goodyear bicycle, I hope you got the other things!
This was one of the best videos! Love that you went around and took in all the details in the dump, I salivate over all that old junk. In the Midwest and Back East it seems like that stuff isn't too hard to find. But here out west its a far different story. That mangled old P.66 oil can that you threw into the car for keeping, attaboy! I see it all the same way as you do. Thanks for sharing!!
I like when these classics get restored instead of turned into a hotrod or lowrider. Classics are part of history. Plenty of new plastic cars for chop shop projects out there.
there are way better cars out there to restore... in the conditions of the video would be worth only papers, everything else would be replaced anyways and cost a lot. the only "reasonable" thing to do with something like that is a rat-mod... (modernized but with decayed looking)
@@RaimarLunardi This car is from the 40s. It is very cool car. There are few ways to restore old cars like this. One is by fixing its own parts, other way is to find a donor car, third way is to find some company to make the parts. Problem is when someone buys to restore it but has another 200 cars in the yard waiting to get fixed (and neither one will be for sale) and that is what is expensive. I never support chop shop peijects on classics. A car can be restored as a normal car, or those (which I dont support) 100 000 $ with metalic paint ventilator shaped large wheels, super low suspension and things like that. If you look at my picture in my profile, that is originaly restored with small percent if new parts, but parts that are for that car. Compared to that, another guy who was "restoring" same model as mine but only in chop shop stile, still cant sell his. As my friend sais "Choping classic car is like finding the original Mona Lisa but you draw on it sunglasses, big teeth and smartphone"
Hi from AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺🇦🇺 That reminds me of howards desoto on happy days 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 same car (body) with differant grill and trim nice to see another one saved 👍🏼👍🏼 i like Chrysler products 😊😊 had a 1936 dodge sedan (hot rodded) years ago . Got a 46 Chevy panel van (panel delivery) im working on now 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great find and recovery, I road in cars like that as a kid, the people who had them treated them like it was a limousine, kept spotless. It kind of reminds me of my 37 foredoor Ford.👍👍👍👍👍❤🇺🇸
These ancient wonders abandoned by modernity do not deserve to be like this if I could have a rarity this entire with all maintenance it is a dream vehicle 🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Thanks for making this video. It was interesting. Too bad about the missing hood. The things hanging from the window cranks are called a lavalier, or lavaliers plural. This was a beautiful car when new. I have a '48 Chrysler Windsor and the interior is beautifully done. If you brought home a new Chrysler between roughly 1940 to 197--you really brought home something! Chrysler's were the best car that you could buy during that time. They were on a level of like a Mercedes-Benz. These car are historically significant due to the marvel of Fluid-Drive and if you look at old footage of cities you'll see most taxi cabs from the era are a Chrysler product because of that. The Fluid Drive/Transmission on these cars are bullet proof, and if the weather didn't get into this one than in all likelihood it's still good. The parts on these cars, even if they look bad are desirable, so if you don't plan on doing anything with this car be sure to offer the parts for sale. Bear in mind that this body was still in use as the early 1949 car because Chrysler had government obligations after the war and they were late in bringing a new car to market. The '46 to early '49 cars are basically a warmed-over 1942 model. The mid year 1949 Chrysler was when they caught up and had all new car on the market. I hope someone does something with this car or gets the parts from it out to guys that need them.
I love the styling of those Post WWII Mopars. The grille on this old Chrysler is a work of art. And she looks fairly solid and complete. I wouldn't hot rod it either, but I see nothing wrong with dropping a reliable slant six with a three speed or Torqueflite in it. More power and reliability than a flathead/fluid drive combo.
AWESOME CAR. I just love these. Plus the Desoto Suburbans. Did you ever see the Highlander interiors they had ? Wow. What's nice is it's not Black or Gray which alot of cars were. I hope you found the hood. Great video.
my Grandparents had one during the same time frame My Grand father was personal friends with the Local Chrysler dealer who took the car in trade it only had 31,000 miles on it but needed 4 tires full break replacement, exhaust system to the header So for the parts and labor only My Grandparent received a like new car.
Mr.goodpliers my myself find your an brilliant guy just sometimes you look at a bumper you know the make etc of the car but my question is why must I sometimes look at an abandoned shed barn that has no value what so ever.
Glad that car wasn't scrapped, because the scrapper would have been pissed off once he opened anything and realized 3/4ths of the weight was dirt and debris lol.
China actually doesn’t buy that much from us, and in fact, most of the stuff from Kansas gets sent South or out East where it is used domestically or goes to other parts of the world.
Really, that's good to know at least, I'm subscribe'd to your channel too, love the classics sucks they can't all be saved , glad to see you guys saving what you can, keep up the good work and the keep as many of the classics on the road as possible
If anyone ever figures out why people do this, please let me know. I'm 70 and in my entire life to my recollection, I have never at anytime collected up more stuff including: cars, trucks, campers, boats, windows and doors, old water heaters, building material, old appliances, etc., etc., etc. you get the point? Why people want to accumulate acres and acres of stuff and then just let it set there and rust and rot away.🤔
You can buy a running driving one with 78,000 mikes in good shape for 10k tomorrow and drive it home. This rescued vehicle will eat 10k and 4 years of your life and you will never see it. Maybe $500 and then you can try and find someone who has the hood or needs a part car and that would work.
There is a stripped down engine in the trunk. Not sure how complete or how useable. We did find a hood for the Chrysler though, at the Studebaker junkyard!
WOW. Mr. Good Plyers. You NEED A Haircut A Bath and A Shave and Lastly A Trip to The DENTIST! And 1978 was 43 years ago! Because i was The Class of 1980. May 18th. 2b exact and that my Fellow American was 41 Years Ago! X Beatle John Lennon had not been shot yet! December 8th. 1980.
It is so sad people do not love the land better than this. The County and state both should fine them heavy. Think of the Pollution of the Ground water.
I have been involved with ground testing in similar situations and unless it's an old commercial shop you will find just about zip for real pollution, other than what's scattered on the surface in the way of trash. Broken glass is harder to clean up than anything else. Old shoes in a dump like this will probably outlast some of those rusty metal containers.
