Hey, the Cleaning Guy wants to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. I also want to point out that today was the Father-in-Law's 95th birthday. The family celebrated at his favorite restaurant, Dairy Queen. I have known him since I was about 12 years old. I worked in an automotive machine shop for a decade. We did mostly high performance engines. SO MUCH STRESS. Got out of the business and began cooking for a living. Watching this channel brings back the love that I had working with machines but also some of my nightmarishly STUPID, and costly, mistakes. I guess I really DO have a love/hate feeling for this channel (mostly love). Something y’all will do that brings back a memory of a major mistake : I’ll just shake my head and block it out😂

Auto mechanic here. Same thing. The older you get, the more time you have and the slower you go. I hardly make mistakes ever now because I take my sweet time and take a step back when I get upset. When I was younger I made stupid mistakes because I would get that upset feeling (frustration) and as I got older I have learnt that I’ve done 5000 jobs and I’m sure I’ll get this one done too. In my 53 years of life and 39 yrs of professional creating/working/handling/repairing possibly billions of dollars of sensitive or irreplaceable equipment/parts and even money matters... I learned early on... *mess up / fess up*. It's called being mature. :) The embarrassment of making an error is FAR less than pointing fingers or getting caught in a lie. I'd rather be fined/suspended/fired from a job after admission of guilt... than the absolute shame of being called a liar or deceitful. I will immediately contact a superior if I make a mistake. In my current job of 2 yrs and counting, I think that was maybe twice... and it was paperwork related that he had to sort out. If someone admits a mistake/error to me... they actually gain my trust more. Anyway.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLEANING GUY! I wish you many more... there's more janitorial training to pass on.

Had to chuckle to myself about the humid comment. I grew up outside of Eads Co. and the humidity was nonexistent. Went into the service spent time in Vietnam (unbelievable humidly) come back stateside to North Carolina (humid) then went to Panama for jungle warfare and survival training. Now live in Illinois where you would think it would be lower in humidity but no, high levels most of the time. I am dreaming of the day of living someplace (other than Arizona) where the level never gets above 25%. I hate humidity, had my fill, I tip my hat to those who enjoy it or at least tolerate it. Just my 2 cents on humidity levels. Happy birthday and enjoy watching you bring old stuff back to life.

Happy birthday Jim!! Liquid nitrogen is so cheap. The expensive part is the storage, transportable(dewar), a vacuum evacuated flask. Next, you'll need a container to hold the liquid N2 and the part. Find something close to the size of the part to be 'frozen'. Styrofoam containers work well. Glass dewars are really efficient, but metal parts will disintegrate. Chill part to -320F, and heat the block to +350F. (670F difference) Sleeve should drop "like a tennis ball down a hallway." BTW, leftover liquid nitrogen makes wonderful ice cream. Cleaning guy will appreciate.
@ronsherbert5757
@ronsherbert5757 2 месяца назад
Just pour the leftover liquid back into the flask. The flask is a one time cost, and using nitrogen will save compressor time banging in valve guides and the distortions that causes.

Now you see some engineer over there at Minneapolis Moline many years ago designed that engine with you in mind. He figured because you had to baby sit that block so that your cutter would not bottom out that you would grab that stool and accidently bump that boring machine and put that gouge in that cylinder. As you stated before you would normally set that depth on a standard block and go do something else as there was no worry about the boring bar hitting anything once it cleared the bore, and of course shut off. But this time the sequence of events was changed, and you had to baby sit this process in order to make sure there was no trouble and that alteration in process resulted in this error. It happens to the best of us and now experience is the best teacher on the next time you encounter these types of engines.

Instead of a rubber band to kill the resonance, a sandbag helps, or a sock 2/3 filled with rice and sewed closed. You can hold it on with a long velcro strap or just loop teh sock around the part. Also there's "noise barrier" as used in car floors, but that tends to be sticky and hard to remove.
