I am Plains Cree born and living in Australia. This doco moved me very much, I feel the seperation, the longing to reconnect, with the land, with my people, with my culture.I was shocked to see my people (of various tribes) living the same exact diet I am (I am living on cheese and bread). I nearly cried when this woman was moved to tears
Beautiful, haunting I have pieced together my family. It took 2 years. But I’ve found us and reconnected to relatives! My separation began with my g grandparents divorce, & my g grandfathers 2nd wife told him to stay away from his first family, us. So we lost a part of our family. I’m Pembina Chippewa/LittleShell descendant, Turtle Mountain, Res, descendant. Also Metis, Cree. I’ve been welcomed home by family. Peace and healing to all...I’m writing a reclaiming ritual for my family...
We can no longer sit and wait for an apology. Doing so is just another form of hindering ourselves from moving on. It may seem frivolous but that mere thought is instilled in us to hold and shackle us from freeing ourselves from the relics of the past. To move forward and to expand the vision of spirituality we must within ourselves come to terms with the negativity within ourselves. Some of us are old enough to remember the words and teachings of the elders. Everything and all things are created within each individual and it was strongly stressed not to give in to the temptation of a force foreign to their and our ways of living. Understand, This is not about Hollywood's version of an indigenous or Indian's way of living. I can reassure, there is a whole lot that we don't about our ancestors, and truly what really happened to them. We only know a glimpse of what they had passed onto to us individually, those of us who are fortunate to be born in a family that is strongly rooted in spirituality. No offense to Christianity, Christians of today are just as much of victims as many Indian people were then. An American Indian activist once made a comment and it was recorded. "The white people of today are the new Indians." Be more to his spirit, he's passed into the dimension of spirit world...As a true Christian would call it God...
