I follow a streamer who used to be a tarkov player. He was a laughing his ass off when this whole thing came out. He's been complaining about the shitty servers and people who defend the company for quite some time and finally got fed up and left the game.
I'm watching them talk about this now, are they not going to even mention this?? This is like the main detail in this whole thing! Did they not actually research this topic?
You guys didn't kill anything you did all of us who play Tarkov a massive favor. And getting an overall awesome dude like goat out in front of all of the people who needed to see his work was clutch. Thank you.
@@officerminiwheats Well it could be that or some of the deeper issues were kind of... lost on him. So a lot of us that no life the game have a bit of a better grasp on certain aspects but if you are super casual I do think some of this stuff can get missed as to just how much of an issue it is. Just my personal take on it!
@@infernaldaedra there's a massive difference in knowing cheating is a big problem and seeing it first person plus most cheating in tarkov is low key enough it can be very hard to know for certain someone was cheating so unless ur jaded most of the time ud give it benefit of the doubt
@@officerminiwheatsthat's not entirely fair. I've been playing as long as he has; possibly longer. And I still wasn't aware of the sheer SCALE of the issue until it was presented in such a visual way, which I suspect is the reason that the reaction to the video was so visceral (from the community and the Devs). And I play on EU servers, which by all accounts is rampant with cheaters.
understandable, buy some stickers or other merchandise if you want to send a message. but he doesn't just want to sell shirts and stickers (merch) he wants to sell products that are designed and manufactured by them, that have a reasonable prices that aren't artificially inflated by branding but by reliability and reviews.
I can barely sit through a 20 minute video yet can sit down wand watch this whole thing in one sitting. You guys are doing something right here and I hope it never stops
Personally, I can't watch videos that are shorter than like 15 minutes. Just a massive waste of time to keep clicking on new videos or adding them to a queue.
Luke talking about how he didn't get scammed but realized that it's expensive to run a restaurant made me think about when I hired someone to construct/place a door at the bottom of my stairs and seal all the open space between the steps. It cost me around 2000 euros, but the material and the door he had to buy to build it all cost about 800 euros, so he actually "only" earned 1200 euros at most.
@@Innuya Yeah, 1200 at most, but it's probably more like 900 or something, and I believe there were two people, and they may have needed two days to do it, not sure, was some time ago.
@@daxconnell7661 The door was 400, I said "the material AND the door he had to buy to build it all cost about 800 euros" he also had to seal all the open space between the steps and had to place small amounts of wooden paneling to seal/connect everything in its entirety, it's complicated since I wanted the door in an unusual spot. The door is "fireproof" however, it can withstand flames for 30 minutes.
I've started watching while I'm at the gym but I don't exactly spend 4 hours at the gym so I have to pause then finish at home (sometimes I'll play a game while watching). Today I ended up spending a bit over 2 hours at the gym, the first hour I walk the treadmill (fast enough that I'm already soaked in sweat by the end) then the rest of the time I'll work on either leg, upper body push, or upper body pull muscles (today was a pull day). Can't go very often so I try to go hard enough to make it worth it. I used to watch while taking a walk (about 1.5 hours) but here in Ohio we don't get exactly get warm and not rainy weather most of the year (same reason I haven't bought a motorcycle, hard to justify when I can't enjoy it most of the year).
About the generational differences. Like 3 years ago I saw my brother (12 at the time) work on a school project on Google docs with his friends all at the same time and it was then when it hit me. If my parents at that age had to work on a school project, they had to go to a friends house or stay after school or everyone do their part and put together the project at school. When I had to do the same, we would just use email and send the same document edited back and forth just putting together our parts. And then my brother just works on it with his classmates all at the same time... It's honestly impressive how you don't even notice when things change, but when you less realize it, they have been like that for a while
41:38 Linus, the WAN Show is 3 hours and 40 minutes long this week. Of course we don't have time for you to blink and inhale. Have a great week everyone.
Permanent Anti-Cheat Idea: That might or might not work at all, but would be hilarious to watch the aftermath. Say a confirmed cheater is found in a shooter game. Instead of banning them. Force update their game with a wonky patch. Just a tiny bit of permanent coding that stays with their system buried somewhere deep in the config, personal, or game files that forces their cross hair to drift away from other players. Like anti magnetic bullets. Hide the file, and log the i.p./system. I dunno. Just sounds fun lol
There's a youtuber who does that in a way. He makes fake cheating software and uploads them for people to download. When someone runs those scripts, instead of helping, they hurt the player. Character points up on fire, turns around, can't run etc.
You two could banter over the better ways to watch paint dry and I would still probably check in every week because of how passionately conversation is so Luke is oind of right
Thank you luke for bringing up the fact that the restaurants are not making as much money now and that sector is getting squeezed, it's truly a race to the bottom for some companies.
3:04:57 I joked with myself that LTT were going to launch a tent after Linus got out of some nice tents in the Labs video. This now confirms it and I am eagerly awaiting the LTT tent.
@@jamesu3816 having merch and sponsors isn't selling out. Making money isn't selling out. selling out is losing your integrity for money. Clearly not the case when they drop companies like Anker when they do crappy things
I started taking care of myself at the age of 14 and about ten years later have gotten a new job almost yearly since then. I think its because places of work are always trying to save money and dont pay what we are qualified for, I am sure some others can relate. A good example, at my current job I am getting 18 h/r have gone to college, business programs, received certifications and have worked for ten years while a kid out of highschool I work with gets the same pay and benefits as me.
I'm getting 17.50 per hour at a dead end factory job (the people are nice and the company is pretty lax overall but I don't see myself retiring from it). I run a press, no certifications or external education, just a few too many years working at factories. Need to get my act together and find a more fulfilling job but I also keep seeing a lot of post like yours talking about how they make barely more than I do (sometimes less) with a ton of education (and probably a ton more debt). Still want a more fulfilling job, or at least one where I can sit on my arse and not handle toxic chemicals and breath toxic fumes for preferably 36-40 hours a week. I've thought about going into business for myself but that's also quite scary and I know the hours could be worse rather than better though I'd have a better shot at making enough money to actually retire by the age of 100 (assuming I'm still alive and kicking). Also not sure what business I'd go into for myself but I'm not getting any younger (and I wish I'd done something more when I was young).
I have a college degree and my current job doesn't have anything to do with it and I get paid a lot more than what I was paid for at the job I got because of said degree. What a weird situation. Good thing I went to college because I wanted to learn more about the subject and not just to get a job.
Listening to Linus and Luke talking about multiplayer and single player games makes me realize how different gaming is to me as an indie, puzzle, automation, and rhythm game player. The only competitive multiplayer game I really play is Tetris lmao
Yeah, gaming is so different to everyone. To some people it's to play with friends (well kinda was for me too like 8 years ago when I had friends but that was very long ago). For me it's playing single-player games with a story or if more gameplay focused with an interesting twist. It's fascinating how huge gaming has become.
People can be die hard gamers to the core without playing any multiplayer games. Those people probably actually finish way more games than those imagining themselves to be leet pro non-casuals that only play the same 2 to 4 games for years.
Big ups to the new WAN Show writer. I’ve tried to get into WAN Show in the past, and was always interested, but it was more of a background thing that I left on. Now it feels like the format and topics keep my attention much better. Whether that’s the result of the new writer or not I’m not exactly sure, but I’m definitely more engaged. Really loving it lately. Love Dan too.
A good thing came outta this Tarkov drama. The other subreddit, r/Tarkov, increased the amount of members by nearly 3 times. That subreddit actually allow mostly free speech. We even had many discussions about SPT-AKI (A single player mod for Tarkov, that allow further modding. No forms of online play available), and the creators of SPT saw an influx of new players aswell.
@@BatJeff They have never liked SPT and as far as I know, it have always been bannable. But they cant tell if people are using it, since it runs a local hosted "server" for each raid and have its own launcher. Only way for them to know (according to BSG), is having both SPT and offical EFT running at the same time. So thats a big no no. And yeah, its completely insane. If anything, BSG should reach out to the SPT folks and get them on board to create a official Single player / Co-op mode to EFT. They lose nothing but open up another market for the game.
As for DAW benchmarks, I'd love to help you guys with that. Sadly I'm in the US not Canada. i've been an audio engineer for ages and know a variety of plugins that can limit single core and multicore use. I think especially for mac system reviews this would be extremely helpful.
Regarding the millennial pause, you guys should check out the start of a Lew Later podcast! Every episode kicks off with some groovy music and Will and Lew just jump straight into conversation (almost like we’ve just joined them mid-conversation). A really interesting topic - thanks for sharing Linus
I had the same problem with my split in the bedroom. It ends up the problem was the "get the humidity/condensation to flow outside tube" thing slightly tilted toward the inside side of the wall. Easy to fix, for the third plumber who took a shot.
Tarkov should have a replay system for entire matches after they close. Real time kill cams don't work for a game like Tarkov. An end of match replay is no problem at all aside from working out the logistics of access and distribution.
Or at least the ability to mark deaths as suspicious. Then have the killcam saved, but only shown in the main menu much later so no positions in a running game are compromised.
Speaking of moats and protecting your business, as long as you stay true to your current mission of being truthful and not selling out, your barriers to entry will protect you, but the moment you sell out, the floodgates will open. I am not saying that you will sell out, but if you do that's what'll happen. Love that you guys do proper reviews, and the whole labs thing where you will thoroughly poke holes in the lies of marketing with data is great!
There was a 2 hour interview the g0at on the Pogcast on Thursday night which is a Tarkov oriented podcast, was a lot of extra background info provided and well worth a watch, uploads to YT on Monday
lmao YES mineral oil! what a throwback, i originally started watching you guys in like 2015 when i wanted to learn about mineral oil PC's. would love to see a follow up
The eSailing virtual regatta is quite enjoyable and it is used by the sailing community. There even was a eSailing championship done recently. But I agree that we need the esports scene to make this a success.
We already had the Olympics of eSports. It was called the World Cyber Games and they were around for a long time but unfortunately ended years ago due to costs I believe. Most of the game choices were good, although there was some questionable titles chosen (especially for console where Gears of War was selected over Halo 2 because Microsoft wanted to advertise the Xbox 360). But Starcraft, Halo, Quake, Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike were all represented most years it was active and it had pretty good representation from a lot of countries.
Looking back, it feels like they were ahead of their time. Financial struggle could very well be what broke their neck, in unison with a lot of big titles rather wanting to run their own events and tournaments.
Cheaters and toxic players are some of the reasons I've just given up on multi-player. I prefer single player games instead, where I can enjoy the story or just have fun in my own way. + I have kids, it's better with games that can be paused if they wake up in the evening
I play games in 10 second bursts between "daddy I'm hungry", "daddy I'm bored", "daddy my sister hit me" etc. The ability to pause is 100% necessary...
@@nicholasvinen amen! Turn based strategy games are also good. Gotta admit the last two months it's been all Cyberpunk, though. Good game, I can usually clock an hour or two pr evening
@@Hjorth87 You can also go for PVE Co-op shooters like Deep Rock Galactic, not really a reason for someone to ever cheat in games like that. If you like city builders I recommend trying out Anno 1800, base game has a -75% sale while the pricier editions have a -55% sale until the 9th of March.
I think the screwdriver holster is a neat idea, but I think there are relatively very few people who need or want to walk around all day with a screwdriver on their hip. There would be a huge boom of sales initially, but slowly people would start to realize that it's just not that practical for enough people to make it worth it.
2:35:25 A similar scenario happened to my grandfather in the early 2000s on his way to work at 4am in backwoods Mississippi. Definitely remembered to lock his truck every time after that.
as a millennial I think we're used to devices taking a moment to actually "start" and it's natural to wait a second and verify, rather than trust that it's rolling.
There's a game out called The Cycle, that takes a lot of inspiration from Tarkov in its systems. I don't think it has a replay system, but it does have a post-match map where it shows your route through the map, your engagements with NPCs and players, and also "close calls" where you came within relative proximity to another player but you and them did not engage.
just wanna mention it that, Bungie with Sony and Riot have been going after cheaters and cheat makers to great effect, Bungie has won 3 lawsuits against cheat makers totaling well over several 100 million dollars. while no system is perfect, i think what they're doing is pretty great, basically you're banned if you're caught cheating, playing with cheaters, boosted by a cheater, etc.
I think more publishers need to sue cheat makers though I'm sure a good chunk of cheat makers are located in places that just don't care (China, Russia, ect). I've heard Microsoft is able to effectively disconnect a lot of servers if they do something nefarious (MS owns a lot of internet infrastructure including nodes and certificate stores) though there are limits on that and they have to be careful not to get on the wrong side of law enforcement (some judges probably wouldn't care if they were doing what's right if it somehow causes them to lose money or they just don't understand how things work and are scared).
I agree with Linus on the competitive advantage of data. In the past year, I got a new role in my company, and I've spent an extremely large amount of time investigating various elements of our business, and getting data where our tools don't support this easily. While time consuming, it has allowed me and my team to make decisions much more effectively, ensuring that are actions produce the outcomes we want them to. This is helped both internally and externally to raise our value and success
Zwift is great. It's true you are riding a stationary bike, but it is gamified and much more that just who has the most endurance. There's a lot of strategy to the racing. Plus, it already has its own series. I'll watch that, for sure.
I was born at the perfect time to get made fun of infront of the entire class for not having a computer with internet but born to late to able to afford to buy a house
Honestly I think the best option would be if you kept it as a family business but adopted and adult who was capable at running the company and had the same vision as you. It is the way Japanese companies have lasts so long without becoming completely horrible.
I'm a millennial and I was a job hopper for a while at one point in my life, and while it wasn't by choice, it did provide an opportunity to grow my salary substantially. Admittedly, it was in lieu of benefits like paid vacation, paid healthcare, retirement contributions, etc.
The way I think of generations is by music media Boomers grew up with records X’ers with tapes and CD’s Millennials with CD’s then mp3s Zoomers with iTunes and streaming services
LMG Has got to be a billion dollar worth company at this point. It's such a MASSIVE Influence on the technology industry that it's nearly impossible for any other company to do the same, without illegally doing something behind the scenes.
I'm pretty sure someone already commented on this, but there are different competitions you can do for DDR. Based on my limited knowledge of the scene, there's straight up scoring (something like Konami Arcade Championship) for both single and double(-pad). There are also freestyle events for both single and double and duet freestyle events that take into consideration score/difficulty/creativity as well. Also, there are other dancing rhythm games as well, with Pump being a common parallel to DDR, Dancerush Stardom getting more popular (to the point where it landed on one of the GDQs), and Dance aRound also starting to show up in Round1's (in the USA, at the very least).
I would definitely watch multiple episodes on submerged cooling projects. The idea is very good if you can make it work. As for the possibility of leak, just put the tank in a big plastic container big enough to contain the liquid in case the primary case fails.
I find the way Luke and Linus describing DDR kind of funny, especially when they pulled up an ancient video of a not very difficult Pump it Up video. I personally think DDR would be interesting in 2 different styles: one where its how luke and linus described, along the lines of freestyle where you have a routine that is voted on. The other style would just be the versus mode already built in, where both players play the same chart and the score is decided by the in-game score
It would be really cool if the Olympics (or any large company) got behind StepMania (and didn't try to add DRM bs to it). I just watched a StepMania showcase the other day (the AGDQ 2023 one) and those guys are truly insane with what they can do.
That's how it's done in PIU tournaments including the WPF (World PIU Festival, its official worldwide tournament). Though I think there's less freestyle done nowadays, but at least on the latest WPF (which was in 2016...) we still got to see cool choreos and stuff, like the winning team: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PqCh-_Tvbf8.html
They should make it so that you can report people right away in game, but the report is not officially posted. Instead it will put that person into a personal report queue for you that can be viewed in a reported players tab. Then after reviewing replay footage you should be able to more accurately determine if it looks like the person was actually cheating or not and choose if you want to actually send the report or cancel it. This would make reports far more accurate, people who are just angry and report someone are less likely to send junk data because they need to take time out of their day at a later time in order to fully send the report. Then also the game should implement some sort of small incentive for reports that resulted in action taken.
This, and make it mandatory to watch the whole thing through (a few minutes before your death) before you can scrub through it to examine... or at least mandatory to watch X amount of time of footage. Would dramatically decrease unbased reports.
@@jo54763 simply forcing them to go to a report tab later and at least open the replay should be more that enough. Forcing them to watch the entire thing would make nobody actually make reports. people want to play the game not spend all day trying to make a report that they are sure about after 5 seconds of watching the replay.
About Luke's mini split: most AC engineers will only do a vacuum leak test. I had an AC that only stopped leaking after they found the leak with a *high pressure* test.
It's hilarious to imagine a video about exposing cheaters being looked down upon by other creators. It's _almost_ like the people talking bad about g0at's video were probably cheaters themselves.
I shit you not, while WAN show was running, there was literally the largest invitational DDR event being ran! It was insane, and was for a $10000 prize pool I was the stream production lead and primary commentator for the event! We have the entire stream on YT.
Nvidia's AI upscaling looks like a big case of stepping on the toes of streaming services that charge more for 4k res like Netflix and youtube premium. Will be interesting to see how that plays out
Something I was taught in the 90's about answering a phone. Take a breath before you speak. This gives the person the other end a chance to be ready to listen and engage.
Apparently, the IOC does not know that chess *already has* an Olympiad event where every nation on earth fields a team for over the board competition in both team and individual competition for medal placement. Wow.
I mean, it's not like the competitors would complain about more tournaments. It usually works out well for everyone involved, if the community is large enough. The only problem I see is a lack of interest in covering the existing eSports scene.
I think him using the FULL interview with Luke was the best choice he ever made. and it being leaked by Linus SAVED the game. its out in the open its fix or end for Tarkov
I feel like as a millenial who is allergic to avocado I got especially screwed. The avocado toast is supposed to be why I have money problems and I don't even have that :(
@luke: sounds like condensation at the evaporator coil. If so, it's not broken, it's physics. The fix is either a channel/hose to get rid of the water or a dehumidifier that always runs. If the evaporator is parallel with the ceiling, in may need to be propped at an angle so the condensation can run together for the aforementioned channel. Alternatively, let it run with a target temperature for a few days and capture the drippings. Once the drippings stop, they're likely to be rare or nonexistent moving forward, until you shut off the AC again. -guy who likes cold air
My biggest issue with anti cheat is that depending on what one it is will flag my rgb control software everytime so it forces me to go in to task manager and kill my rgb. If they would update the systems to identify the lightning controls as not a cheat that would make me not mind running the anti cheat.
24h WAN Show would be soooo cool! Then everyone on earth can watch them live. Linus, imagine the merch messages, LTTstore would make a killing. You could invite other tech people on the podcast, from all over the world.
The thing about "millenial pause," "quiet quitting," and various other terminology is that its someone somewhere is trying to make these things that separate us. In reality theyre simple things based on the eras we grew up in, inherent differences. Millenial pause is just, "we grew up with unreliable tech." Quiet quitting is not overworking yourself for a job that refuses to pay you better, accommodate its employees, takes the customer's side because its easier to give them what they demand than stand your ground, and various other unfavorable expectations BUT you cant outright quit because you still need a job to survive (barely).
The amount of cheating in so many multiplayer games is honestly why I tend to play singleplayer RPGs when I play by myself. If I want to play a multiplayer game, I want the competition and the feeling of victory and accomplishment (and obviously I'm playing with friends). I can't enjoy that feeling when I know that potentially 50-75% of the enemy team may be cheating at any given time, and as such I don't enjoy it. Plain and simple
as someone who’s been involved with both spaces for many years at this point, sure my game is burning but this has truly been the crossover episode ever.
I switched from PVP games to co-op a while back. Much happier with it. Deep Rock Galactic is great. Killing Floor 2 is great. Borderlands / Wonderlands is great.
Credit where credit is due, Valve has used VAC, VACnet and Overwatch EXTREMELY well in CSGO to the point where there is many ways for them to passively mess with cheaters until they get banned due to more traditional measures.
