I've seen does go for $450 here. Boer goats do get sick more if you have them in a small pen, I let mine run with my cows. People here cross their Boer with Spanish, some people with dairy bucks. Oh yeah I only worm about 2 times a year. When I do worm it's just a precaution, they aren't wormy.
We have 4 Boer does and had a Boer Buck, ended up getting a Kiko Buck and this year we have 7 kids, half Kiko half Boer and all does! We are thinking of keeping most of the kids and getting a new Kiko Buck and breed next year and end up with 3/4 Kiko offspring. Kiko are so much hardier than Boer.
The Kiko vs. Boer thing makes my blood boil. Doesn't matter what breed your goat is. Choose them with a goal in mind and look after them properly and you will get a return on your investment. Buying breeding stock from a sales barn is not a very good idea. I hope you learn from your mistakes. We all make mistakes. Some of them are pretty costly in the long run.
Well then, why don't you share some youtube wisdom with us. I'm sure mushroom cultivation and goat farming are similar enough to have some clues to give to an aspiring farmer.
