Not putting the G14 and G16 in the Gamers categories is weird? you can easily fix either the heat or noise issues by uninstalling Armory crate and replacing it with G-helper, then undervolting and making a custom fan curve, after these simple adjustment they become better in every way than the Omen Transcend and becomes suitable for creator use since they're so compact and light.
@@oscarswazi6412 And worst in usability XD No real ports, low GPU wattage, heat and fan noise even worse than gaming laptops, the same stupid unusable FN keys that even Apple learned to remove, high price even higher than an equivalent macbook (the base version is useless with a terrible screen and no dedicated GPU) The XPS line is destroyed, it is what apple used to be from 2016-2019, great looking device, but completely horrible in every other metric.
can't imagine myself buying a new laptop without josh, as they say not the video we want, but the video we need tell your mom that we're proud of you too
I can’t imagine buying a new laptop at all, considering how quickly they are discounted when an updated model is released or knowing Amazon Refurbished exists.
@@madhavjayam2452How do you know? Even if it runs locally for now, it still stores a fuckton of data that MS could siphon anytime. Personally i'll switch my gaming laptop to Linux after my finals. Fuck Microshit.
DO NOT BUY AN HP LAPTOP! Trust me, I have a HP Envy x360, it looks gorgeous and I was very pleased with my purchased at first. I also asked the guy from the store about the hinges, if they would be resistant enough. He sold me some crap about hinges that were tested to last for thousands of times. It's a lie. The hinges broke... twice. Now my laptop is not covered by the warranty anymore and my screen cracked because of the hinge breaking free from the cover. I can't close my laptop anymore. It's brand new on the inside and a mess on the outside despite infinite care and precaution. There are countless stories of people encountering the same problem, HP know and do nothing! It's way more bankable to make buy a new machine every year. Don't waste your money!
Same here. I have an HP Pavilion x360 and my first battery got killed, replaced the battery only for it to get killed AGAIN a few months later. At my third battery (less than a year old) and it's already at 0.15Wh of capacity AT FULL CHARGE. And it costed $1000 when I first bought it. Never trusting HP again.
I've heard recently from a guy at micro center that HPs are usually same build quality as Dell (and have had great Dells for years), but anecdotally, everyone says HPs are a complete wash (and that's also been my experience borrowing HPs). Does anyone think it's a matter of which HP you choose?
these videos and channel in general is so underrated, the videos are concise whilst also being thorough and in depth, can't wait to see copilot+ coverage soon!
I have a Thnkpad X13s and love the battery life and I'm surprised with the reliability and function. Now with the new X14s coming out, I'm for sure checking it out.
Great video! Just a quick FYI: I noticed you marked the noise level of the MacBook Air as 0 decibels to indicate it makes no noise. However, since the decibel scale is logarithmic, technically no noise would mean −∞ decibels. 🤓
Hold on. Why are you skipping over the Asus Strix Scar 16? In your charts, while glorifying the Alienware, it is shown as being quieter, cooler, and a vastly superior screen. Please explain this
I honestly am waiting for the releases this year, I do hope you guys will be able to do a full rundown for all of them! Am excited for both the new CPU and GPU from Intel, Nvidia and AMD later in the year
damn, this channel is a gem - consise, to the point, lots of options, and even if you don't plan on buying (because I already got the M3 MacBook) - interesting & entertaining 👏
I have been struggling to avoid snapdragon reviews as they aren't retail units with full testing yet. But they've been soooo tempting! So thank you for coming up with a vid like this, to act as a salve during the hype cycle. Really appreciate it. Please try to time your nerdy vids around the most frothy hypes
I am wondering, what criterias made the Yoga Pro 9i 16 not in the Gamers section? And why the Zephyrus G16 instead of the G14? Would love some insight on that :)
Interesting question actually) also 4070 version problems solves.with Helper, so this pitch sound, and fan noise isn't an issue...Yoga pro 9i very underrated. G14 on amd, I don't understand why it isn't on list, OMEN transcend is great, love it, but g14 have it's place there too, amd is better in every way than any Intel cpu
After all it's a nice try to push Intel and AMD laptops but NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN THOSE POWER HUNGRY SH*Ts any more. There are currently only two options, MacBooks or Copilot+PCs.
I bought the Yogi i9 the day it came available mostly because of Josh's reviews and comments about it. I like it and it is all of what he said it is but I would highly suggest that you don't get caught up in the excitement of a "New" laptop coming out and buy it right away. I waited from Jan when I first saw Josh's review until April when it was available to buy it. Now only 2 months later I see it selling for $1699. I paid $2100 two months ago. I would suggest taking all of his reviews and info and waiting at least a few months after it comes out so you can save the $400
@@KriticullCTRL first of all, its personal preference, second of all, even I, as a windows user my whole life would love a macbook just because of how good the M series processors are. I'm counting on Snapdragon X processors to bring windows laptops to finally the same level
@@lordawid That's true. We should be appreciative when manufacturers actually improve their products, as that creates competition. Just look at how Apple's M Series chips are now pushing Windows manufacturers to experiment on the more efficient x86 architecture. What he should've grumbled about is the price of RAM and storage on the Macs.
@@lordawidI hope so, but the difficulty would be de compatibility with the apps and videogames, and the other hand the different brands with distinct characteristics
Snapdragon only affects laptops $1k and up and only for those not requiring dedicated graphics. Plus we don't know what apps work and don't on those yet. Anyway, if that use case above is you, then I'd wait a couple of weeks to find out. But if you do see a really big sale on one of these. Then, it's fine to buy also
wish you guys did a video about laptops with the most issues by collecting user data on forums. A lot of these machines have the lamest issues I have ever seen. Such as the HP Envy user has posted here already. It is a disgrace honestly how bad thesr manufacturers are.
i have the M3 pro, highly recommend (i dont have to worry about gaming on here cause i have a desktop so this is strictly for class work and adobe stuff)
the pavilion plus is now $400 off! wow.. but then if you look at the price its $20 more than what you show here... So they just jacked up the price to put a bigger discount amount on it.. shame on HP
Hi Josh, thanks for such another great video. One question: Do you think IdealPad Pro 5 14 (AMD) is the best bang-for-your-bucks 14-inch laptop, given that you give the 16-inch version such high praises? Or does the smaller chassis cause some significant problems?
This video talks about so many variables that I didn't find it very helpful. Rank them somehow. most durable, fastest, best for office, OLED burn-in, touchscreens, or whatever. Seems like the common themes are fan noise and weight.
Excellent video. I do want to add getting refurbished business laptops. Below are some that serve most business and general users' needs well (with 16GB of RAM): - Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 4 with Ryzen 7 CPU - HP EliteBook 845 G10 with Ryzen 7 CPU - Dell Latitude 7440 with 32GB of RAM.
In 2020, I used your suggestion for Idea FlexPad (AMD) and it's still my favourite and in proper working. I'll purchase my next laptop when Zen 6 CPUs are launched, and I'll again bother you for suggestions when they are out in the market. Big thanks from sunny India 😎 🇮🇳
At this point, there is almost 0 reason to get the X over the current 8840HS or Ultra 7 offerings. Battery life is the single option, but everything else is better on the two other offerings. If you just need web surfing, get a tablet.
Can you test the yoga pro 7i as those are 14 Inch core ultra 9 or core ultra 7 with Nvidia 4050 or 4060 gpu. They seem like the perfect laptop. The 14 inch size being portable and cpu and gpu being powerful however I wonder about its battery life thermal and all day usage ability? Ty
I know the Honor & Huawei laptops are not that popular, but I was thinking to buy "Honor Magicbook Pro 16" and the reason why I specific want this one, because it's the new release proper Honor's gaming laptop, and the Ecosystem is really good for around 1550€ (RTX 4060 edition)
I believe copilot+ pcs for arm were announced and soon the copilot versions of Intel and AMD versions as well. Apple wwdc is just around the corner and the M4 based macbook might be announced? You will need to spend another fortune in just a few months time to fairly compare among the newest generation of laptops.
Hey josh, Well from what i have seen on reddit, omen 14 can get upto 80W. Also it can be done by switching or downloading game ready driver from nvidia (preloaded is studio) and after that in performance mode it hits 10k plus on benchmarks (ultra 9 with 4070). Can you please help with this? Or try Idk about what or how much ultra 7 4060 can score very much confused, if the score matches the legion slim 5 14" or even if closer i would like to go for omen. Im planning to get ultra 7 with 4060 By The Way thanks for this brief explained video about which one is good and what are their pros and cons really appreciated your work
I have to disagree with the review on the asus g16 oled vs the alienware m16 r2. I am using both right now and the alienwares fan is SO loud, I can even hear it humming during idle! The asus on the other hand is so much quieter.
@@JustJoshTech Yes, ive been testing both on diablo 4 and the alienware is very loud even after I tried messing with the fans in their software. the g16 is way quieter when compared to alienware m16.
Lol.. i have M3 macbook and g16 rtx 4090.. rendering video, or anything is similiar if not faster on g16 ... Display is better on g16, is also slimer and thiner.. what exactly you find so special on macbook ? Yeah it's okay device for work, ( if you don't need windows apps to run) .. but i get the same performance ( and much much better gaming performance ) on G16, with similiar speakers ( best on market in pair with macbook) while having an Oled screen.. as i said, i have both, and i choose g16 and windows every day, any day for work, gaming, watching movies, ...... It's faster, eazier...
Josh, I went with the Alienware M16 R2. Big battery mostly fully upgradable and good keyboard. The display is lacking to others, but I have a great monitor.
hello - thanks for the videos. i would like to get a 2in1 windows ideally, in the $800 - $1400 ish range ideally. however fan noise drives me crazy. i have been using a M1 MBA 8gb/256ssd for a while now. i do love that the MBAs have zero fan noise. considering the 15.6" M3 MBA for $1100 from BestBuy. but, i do like WindowsOS a bit better, and i really would like a 2in1. plus running some games would be nice (just a couple older ones). so i'm kind of torn between the M3 MBA, the HP Spectre, and some Lenovo Yoga options. I'm curious if you (or anyone reading this!) have any advice and in particular what if any windows 2in1 laptops have the least (or zero) fan noise?
Help me! I have been watching too many videos and still don't have clarity on what I might want to get. I currently have an XPS 15 from 2021 for video editing. It's been awesome and still performs great. I have had to replace 2 batteries and the trackpad doesn't really click after anymore after 1 year, even after a new keyboard as well. I don't like the 2024 iterations of the XPS since they took many ports and FKeys away. What is a comparable windows laptop? I'd like to keep it $2000 or less if possible. (editing 4k video)
Any Apple silicon Mac you buy will last someone easily 7-10 years. While still being relevant and fully usable. Major step not mentioned here. AND if you have an Iphone with one click on your iphone settings you can text even androids AND make calls to ANY phonme no matter what their phone is running. I get home and never even look at my phone saving my phones life from over use. Night after night of never touching my phone . My iphone 13 pro max from 3 years ago still has 93% overall health. How anyone wastes their money on a sub par windows machine running X86. folks ARM is the present and future. Im runni ng two virtual machines in my M1 Max and the fans arent even on and its sitting at a cozt 120 degrees F. One VM on my maxxed out NOT old Dell it sounds like a jet engine. Fans are always on even just in stupid windows which blows.
Im an apple hater by heart but have to admit that in notebook space they are the best. Basically every laptop below 1000€ that is not a macbookair is garbage. The spec might be better but the overall feel and work of the machine is still better. The touchpad is the best. Ive had my last 2015 macbook pro which I got 2019 till the end of 2023 till it broke. It had issues and I hated it but only because I did not know the laptob market. After it broke I looked for alternatives and theres just garbage. Everything that comes close to apples quality is at least the same price if not more. Currently I got a SurfaceBook and this thing is just a piece of trash. The touchpad is shit, touchscreen is totally annoying. Ive turned it off but after restart its on again. So I hate to admit but MacBook is the only option for me.
Wow! Being just 1 minute after a video release, makes me feel privileged! Thanks Josh for everything you have given me in tech tips, you also helped me in deciding on purchasing my 14 Inch Macbook Pro M3 Max! No complaints, and this meets my workload very nicely: Autodesk fusion, DaVinci Resolve etc, you are by far the most accurate and unbiased tech reviewer I have ever come across, have a great day!
I can only afford a windows laptop and I’m looking one to buy for my upcoming Comp Sci degree this fall intake. Just waiting to buy with my student discount and been keeping an eye on the Zenbook 14 OLED one. What do you recommend apart from the Lenovo one mentioned in the video?
hp goes on sale a lot. Got a HP Envy 16 i9 13th gen 2880x screen dia 4060 list at BestBuy for 1750 for 1100 at the time. Decided I wanted something smaller and lighter. Well the HP 13 Pavilion Aero with AMD was 450, I had to upgrade the screen to 2880, and at least 16gb of RAM hard drive it went to 530, still cheaper than anything from dell and many other brands. I need a graphic card since I do 3d revit software for work (a lot of corporate subscription software doesn't run on Mac). The Aero is just a coffee shop laptop and on the go. If the HP Transcend 14 came out earlier I would have that instead of the 13" and 16", maybe. A small light has a graphic card, metal body. The aero I got is cheap so no worries if it gets lost or banged up. all the HPs I have has a metal body. No plastic for me. Grant the area is a thinner lighter metal. Asus Zephyrus was my other favorite, the screen was more mat-like than the Aero. Glossy looks better but without reflection. Mat for daylight coffee shop window.
When you absolutely abhor buyers remorse so you’ve been stuck watching these laptop videos for the past week 💀 and why Lenovo fucked US customers on the YOGA 9i 4070 with 64gb ram is still mind boggling
Can you list good 2 in 1 touch screen laptops under 2,000 usd? Can you also provide list of laptops that can also be used as tablet in that price range? Thank you.
I really need to buy a laptop I am from a third world country i have a huge currency disparity. But what can I buy for business use. I need a no nonsense laptop with portability and good screen
Surely the best pc laptops by miles are the new snapdragon ones, not included here? I know you need to keep creating videos for ad revenue but isn't this flogging a dead horse?
Sad to not see the framework laptop in the list, but makes sense i guess. Great Video btw ! Can't wait to see the review of ARM based laptops from this channel !!
and that's why I bought this year's yoga pro 9i. i'm so damn happy, I just stopped using my PC overall. I'm a wedding filmmaker: premiere pro, even with my 10 bit 422 4K a7S III footage, it runs smoothly. it blows my mind. I'm a gamer: i'm getting 350+ FPS in valorant at stretched 1.4K res, 250+ FPS in CS2, and 130 FPS in destiny 2 in 1920x1200... all while not having nvidia game ready drivers installed (because I'm using the studio drivers). I could get even more frames out of this thing, and I still don't feel the need too. I'm a uni student: if you put this thing in battery saver, 75% brightness or less, at put the refresh rate to 60FPS, this thing lasts the whole day and still works incredibly well. **ALL THIS WITH ONLY THE 4060 VARIANT!!! HAHAHA** oh, and I added a 4TB nvme inside. so now I have 5TBs of storage, just for an extra 200 bucks. this. device. is. PERFECT FOR ME.
@@JustJoshTech which also got fixed in a bios update (typing right now on a g14 2024) its dead silent on daily use + no more high pitched fan noise in idle+gaming.
Another very good laptop **imo** is the new 2024 Huawei Matebook D16: it has 4 different configurations - the lowest one sporting a 12th gen. Core i5 (and the highest a 13th gen. Core i9) - which makes it suitable for every kind of workflow, the keyboard is great to type on and the 720p HD camera is not bad either; on the other hand the screen is only a 300 nits 16:10 IPS, although with a 90% screen-body ratio. The ports kinda suck too (there are only 1 USB-C, 2 USB-A one of which still _2.0,_ 1 HDMI and the headphone jack), but that is remediable with a hub. All in all though it’s quite a good machine adaptable to all kind of works….and pockets, as the prices range from 600€ to 1200€ (but you can easily find it for cheaper on Amaz0n and other platforms). 🙂
I don't know why everyone is so hyped on OLED displays for computers. They do look great. But over the years of owning 3 different LG OLED TV panels and 2 or 3 Samsung phones with OLED screens, the burn in issue is horrible. They've all had it. I used to have a plasma panel TV back in the day where people said "oh burn in problems vs LCD." Never had one issue. so I thought the OLED burn in issue was over hyped. I was wrong. Our main TV has a ghost of the Hulu Ad notification in top right all the time. The color in the middle is off color from the red cells going out from displaying the big red N from Netflix. All the standard icons on the top of my phones like battery, WiFi, sound mode have been burned into the screens. I really wouldn't recommend OLED for a computer you're planning to hang onto for a few years
Great video. However, it's already outdated since the new Snapdragon Elite chips are out. I had to return my glorious Dell xps 16. You should not buy any Windows laptops now since you will not be able to take advantage of co-pilot plus. The only exception would be if you need a laptop now and want a gaming laptop ie. G 16. Otherwise, buy these in the fall. So now you're going to have to test all these new laptops. You're going to need a lot of redbull and money. What world are we in when you may have to review laptops made by Microsoft. Suggestions for videos. One on those that are on sale now and do a pre review. Then, when they are available, do the Samsung Edge 16 vs. Mac book air 15. Also, Ipad Pro vs. Microsoft 13-inch tablet. Get to work!!!!
Stop recommending soldered RAM 16 inch or bigger gaming laptops! And I have the ROG Flow x13 (2023), and it's really great. It's a bit loud for high performance tasks, although it's a 13.4 inch laptop with an RTX GPU. It's expensive for an high performance laptop to get 32 GB of RAM. And it only has only a 30 watt TGP, but it's a 13.4 inch laptop, and a 2 in 1 at that, so there's nothing else in its category! I know Asus is getting so flak right now, but there isn't any competitor to it...
Heat and fan noise are such weird metrics to judge a gaming laptop by. I'm still not sure why the Omen Transcend is recommended over the G14 when you're paying a similar price for the Transcend as the G14 but experience about a a 25% drop in performance versus the G14. Yeah, the Transcend runs cooler, but even amongst laptop gamers--what percentage of the community realistically plays games on their dang lap? In how many scenarios is someone going to game, where they wouldnt happen to have a desk in front of them OR choose to game on their lap instead of their desk? As opposed to buying a gaming laptop for being a machine that is portable and also happens to game? And of course the other complaint is the fan noise...okay but how many gamers will be using laptop speakers as opposed to having dedicated gaming earbuds or headphones or desktop speakers? I want to know in what universe does less fan noise and less heat beat a 25% more GPU performance, more vibrant screen, significantly better speakers, better build quality, lighter laptop, smaller footprint.
Josh! What makes you differentiate between gaming laptops and professional ones? Wouldn't a legion pro 9i or even a zephyrus g16 (2024) be really good for design, video editing and 3d work? Or do you think that for those high prices a macbook pro would just be better? (a zephyrus g16 with a 4090 here costs almost 4000€...). I'm a creative professional. I do graphic design, video editing and like to include some 3d work and well, if I could I'd like to do some gaming on my spare time as well. I'm very confused as where to spend so much money...
I don't like the artificial distinction myself. Both use the same underlying parts right now, though manufacturers tend to put higher resolution displays with wider color gamuts in their creator laptops, but they may cut back on the fast refresh rate of the panel.
Can anybody help me please? I'm between three laptops and I don't know which one I should take. I looked at the HP Omen 16 with an i7 13700HX, RTX 4080, and 2560 x 1440 display, the Lenovo Legion 7 with an i9 14900HX, RTX 4070, and a 3.2k display, and the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 with an Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4060 and 3.2k screen..
It may be a late feedback but when showing the battery results you should show the percentage used where lower is better. Why? you may ask. Let me explain. Let's say there are 2 laptops A and B. After 4 hours of Netflix playback A has %90 battery in it while B has %80. If you put them into the graphs like that the average Joe will look at them and say "Oh 80 and 90 is basically the same" But in reality laptop A has used only 10% where laptop B used 20% which actually means Laptpop A's battery life is 2 times of B.
For future consideration. I am a contractor remote worker who will be looking for a new Windows laptop soon. I am looking for good value in a laptop with a 15 or 16 inch screen, good camera for Zoom or Skype calls, a generous selection of ports, 16 to 32 GB RAM because I have to load lots of programs and utilities. And it must have very good battery life. I will never do any gaming on this laptop. It is purely a business related device.
I get that you recommended a Macbook Pro 14 inch for professionals, I agree 100%... If you can tolerate Mac OS. I can't. Im happy you included a windows option, but only a 16 inch one. What about the best 15, and 14 windows options? More love for Windows / Linux users, ty.
Hello sir I appreciate your work please suggest me which one should I go for MacBook Pro m3 pro/max vs legion 7i 2024 for student..I do coding and programming and in future blender ,development for that reason I’m thinking off we needed graphics card which has legion and keyboard also good but battery 🔋 in MacBook is very good im so confused which one should I buy please
This is a pretty good list but I’m very confused on why you’d recommend the hp specter for casual uses and the 14 inch omen, the hp envys while not as nice go on sale for about 800 regularly have the same processor or 8840hs(so that could even be a good light gaming machine) and they have 16 gb ram+ 1 tb storage and they’re going for generally at or above 1000. The omen while it’s got good specs the plastic chassis is very flimsy while the g14 is gonna be significantly better build quality and cost less overall
Such a great video, I really like how you guys recognise how difficult is to choose a gaming laptop nowadays. While you guys do not include it under the gaming category, would you recommend the Yoga Pro 9i with an RTX4070? I do not play the most demanding games (mostly FIFA) and I feel like the laptop offers the same premium feel as the G16 but with less fan noise (and a smaller price tag!). Also...how was the battery life for the Yoga Pro 9i in real life use? Thanks!
As far as other reviews say the Yoga is a great option, as premium as the G16 but keep in mind a bit heavier, so the G16 might still be worth it if you're ready to do some tweaking to make it run quieter and cooler. But anyways, fifa is an easy game to run so even cheaper 4060 laptops would work for you just fine.
I got the 4060 32GB variant In premiere pro, even with my 10 bit 422 4K a7S III footage, it runs smoothly. it blows my mind. I'm a uni student: if you put this thing in battery saver, 75% brightness or less, at put the refresh rate to 60FPS, this thing lasts the whole day and still works incredibly well. if you watched josh's dedicated video on this laptop, you'll see that it actually has the same performance as the G16 w/ the same gpu, but cooler and quieter lol
I've been a loyal Apple user for years, but recently have been testing out some Window's laptops. I've tried three different brands, and when using my bluetooth headphones there is serious lag and sync issues when watching RU-vid, or any of the streaming platforms. Is this a common Windows problem and can it be fixed?
