My earthquake story..... I was working in my office, and my kids were playing in the living room. We all felt the house shake, and my daughter thought someone was at the house. At first, I told her it was just the base training until my rescue group chat started blowing up about the earthquake. After that, I made it a teaching moment to tell them what to do if there was an earthquake again. With that being said, if there is an earthquake, you want to either get under your desk or into a door frame, anything that will help create a Void if your building Collapses. Stairwells are generally good to, because they are surrounded by steal ( an engineer will be able to explain better; this is just my small knowledge)

We were sitting on couch wasting time until the groomers appointment when we felt the floor vibrating. At first I thought it was the washing machine off balanced but then the machine stopped spinning and the floor was still shaking. In terms of stairwells the larger commercial buildings may have steel, but most houses and smaller buildings are just wood framed or concrete block stairwell. It may change in the future, but as of now I don’t believe NJ has any seismic design requirements for buildings since earthquakes aren’t common in our area.

Working from home alone and the whole house shook. I was really scared and didn’t like the fact I didn’t have any of my kids with me. Also I may or may not be a part of some form if not all of the tinfoil hat communities 😂.
