Joe was actually being a really good friend it’s crazy how some alcoholics don’t know you can die from alcohol withdrawal. he qualifies for experiencing delirium if he cold turkey stops drinking so Joe is more concerned about Bert’s health than he is about rethinking your friendship. Imo if your buddy is drinking that much you’re more worried about their breathing not their feelings I think that’s where Joe was coming from. He’s made a reputation for himself by being selfless and not cutting ppl off for their decisions but supporting them in making the better decisions and I’m all for it. My sobriety birthday is October 4th 2013. A persons' alcohol consumption is the "cure" to an underlying condition. Unless a person is willing to go through the tumoil of finding the "why" (usually a mental health issue) behind over consumption of alcohol the cycle persists. Alcoholism and drug addiction walk hand-in-hand and are no jokes.

@@finnermusic yep. Thank you. It honestly means so much. I'll be honest, I am on medication, so there isn't that much drive to do it anymore. It hard hard work, as after 2Liters of 40% (80proof) a day, I had to go in to detox not to pass away. I go to therapy. All the trauma and nerve pain (from cutting my lower arm off, completely) didn't help, but I was always an addict. I'll be honest though. Sometimes, like every few weeks / month, I have to take a small dose xanax. I never liked them to drug, but when living alone, and I'm not safe to go out, I would rather temporarily do that, instead of going insane, ending up homeless again or end it all.. But, still never touching alcohol, and / or any other drug. Only the ones I get prescribed in treatment. I'm somewhat aware of what has caused most of it, through therapy, but I'll continue therapy for as long as I can!. Keep going strong, man! @@francus7227 every form of addiction is some form of running. It looks different for everyone but it usually boils down to a very simple formula of an inability to release or deal with things in life. Whether that be going overboard when having a "good time" or coping with losses or regrets. Bert has said he knows hes an alcoholic, knows its a demon that he actively battles. He is in a stage where acknowledging that demon helps him in some way mentally to deal with the fact that he doesnt even approve of some of his own behavior. Most people with addiction are running from thoughts, feelings, or situations that make them uncomfortable. For bert, he cant have a rip roaring good time without indulging in lots of drinking. Which is super common in society btw. In a sense, he is running from the hard truth that those behaviors are harming him instead of helping him. Whether it started as a good time and just escalated over time to where he cant stop, he knows he needs to scale way back or quit, for his own sake. He is running from that battle because it will be hard and he has also built up his professional persona around those behaviors. Its hard because that will require him to radically change his behavior since his everyday or nearly everyday life consists of heavy drinking and partying. That lifestyle change is a big deal and its scary and challenging and bert seemingly, admittedly, doesnt want or feel the need to make that change at this point in his life. Like many alcoholics that know theyre going too hard or have a problem, he has the attitude of "i know its a problem that i will likely need to confront at some point, but im not done yet, and that point is not now, despite more and more concerned friends telling me to stop". I hope he helps himself sooner rather than later. Nothing wrong with being a "used-to-be-big-partier". Gotta tone it down at some point though if he wants to have a better chance at a longer life. No one is promised a long life but purposely poisoning yourself repeatedly over time is not self respect or self care and being the author of our lives we can choose to write a fun but sad story thst ends in self destruction or we can choose to learn from our mistakes and write one with some sad parts followed by tales of rediscovery and redemption.

You most certainly can blame him. I live in the Midwest and you're right about it being everywhere but if you have self control and self discipline then it's not that difficult. And I started drinking a lot at one point and stepped back cuz I didn't want it to be a problem. And I'm not passing judgment on those who drink, even excessively, because it's not my place to do so. But it's definitely naive to say "you can't blame him" (or anyone else for that matter) because at the end of the day it's our own choice to pick up the bottle or not and especially to not stop after a couple and keep it going and especially when it becomes a daily habit. I say this all with love though. But yeah, definitely a choice in my opinion. Nobody is forcing anyone to do so. All about self control. And moderation is the key. 🗝 👌
