Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. To true! Many years back I had property that I was all set to build on and after delays the dirt work started after a hard rain in November. They pulled out after finding a similar "spring" in the middle of the work site and I never was able to build there. Probably best in the end, but at the time it was a heartbreaker.

With a positive attitude and a calm approach from Crystal and Jaz they brought the team together during an almost impossible feat given the obstacles. Porter and Adam were professional all the way. Colin and Paige sure got a first-hand look at the hurdles of off-grid living. The filming content was enormous given the looming disaster at hand. After the digging, pumping all that water, sourcing and placing those huge tubes, and then the smaller interior tubes you keep on, hand lifting buckets of cement to the scaffolding to pour, OMG, I am simply amazed at your strength and endurance! I'm not sure the words determination or perseverance can even come close to describing what you and your incredible team of helpers had to have in order to accomplish what you did for this week's addition to your cabin in the wood's dreams!! the way you solve your water problem is like this: first, buy a 6" piece of sewer pipe DR-35, and a submersible pump that fits inside the pipe- it should be 13' long and reasonable; then you re-dig the original hole, place gravel as before; the place the 6" pipe a few feet away at a depth 6" below the sonotube bottom; cut it off at ground level; place the sub pump in and run it until concrete is poured and a little dry; complete the sonotube install as before; when concrete is dry, remove pump and pull 6" pipe out with excavator. Repeat for #2

Always remember ladies failure/mistakes is nothing but lessons learned, learn the lesson and keep pushing forward which you both did and conquered... No body gets out of life without making them and its your attitude that gets you though take it from this old woman. Even now this old dog learns new tricks daily... Happy birthday Jaz! Your will and determination seems to inspire and fuel those around you. Porter has been, from the beginning, and continues to be an invaluable resource and friend to you two. I know, or assume, that you pay him as he works for himself or a company. However, He has shown that he gets it, he understands you mission and is onboard 100%. Just like you two, he never gives up. It is such a joy to watch this process; the cabin in the woods becoming a homestead!

For future reference, the tubes are really throwaway forms. You could find old metal culvert or other surplus/scrap pipe of the same desired internal diameter to use. It just has to be intact enough to hold the backfill before filling with concrete. Highway department or road contractor might even have something they have pulled from service that they would just give you.

I agree. Or forms could be made square out of scrap 2 x 4’s and plywood. It’s just to hold the concrete until it sets up. But they got’er done, and that’s what counts. 👍
