A more accurate assessment would have been if the presenter returned to that bottle the next day and poured himself another glass. He would have noticed that the wine would have vastly changed from the initial glass the day before, to the point that the glass from the 2nd day pour wouldn't have been enjoyable. I have recently acquired a Coravin Timeless. It works superbly on bottles with corks, as the cork is never removed and oxygen is never introduced into the bottle between pours. However, I find that that the Coravin Timeless performs dismally on screw cap/stelvin sealed wines (which constitute >99% of wine seals in Australia, inclusive of many wineries flagship wines). I quickly remove the screw cap and even sparge the bottle headspace with a decent squirt of food grade argon gas from a Winesave Pro and then immediately screw on the Coravin screw cap with silicone access point. The Coravin screw cap fit to the top of the bottle appeared to be very good. Unfortunately, the small amount of oxygen present distributed through the wine when the bottle was inverted to pour using the Coravin system, hence starting the oxidation process. By day 2 my Pinot was decidedly very less drinkable. Absolutely flabbergasted that Coravin claim a 3 month preservation window with their screw cap device. Hence, I would NOT recommend Coravin for screw cap sealed wines.
One mistake was made, you need to release a little bit of gas before pushing the needle down. Other than that, the scream was really foolish. This is a great way to make sure you are drinking a bottle that is not corked or tainted when taking it to a BYOB. It is not a great way to drink a glass of wine or two at home.
