As you advance the needle in, can you purge the air with argon gas?

There is nothing wrong with just opening the wine and drinking it. If you do want to preserve wine further, this is just a tool to help.

It’s hard to drink when I want just a glass and my partner does not like red wine as much. I’m getting Coravin tomorrow, thanks for all the useful reviews !

Coravin is the biggest junk / ripoff ever made. I have been using it since 2015 and I have tested most models. I gave up already and I am currently testing a different system. The Argon canisters are crazy expensive with no reason so I overcame this issue by using an adaptor which screws into the coravin and allows me to recharge it on demand. The biggest issue is that after using it for a while the o-rings inside the coravin start failing so you loose your gas within 24 hours and it can not be fixed as the coravin is not made to be fixed. It is a piece of junk. Third issue is they claim coravin can preserve the wine for a period of time; wrong. The taste and integrity of the wine rapidly changes after a second / third / fourth glass poured within 4 weeks (of course I followed their proper use etc) 90 % of the reviews in youtube are not independent to be honest and Coravin spends $$$$$$$$$ to get positive reviews.

My blind tastings comparing coravin to other systems were not paid for. It’s not perfect but the best option out there if you want to keep the cork in IMO
