As a son of Pontian Greek family, i live in Izmir, Turkey, we should keep that language alive. It makes me sad to see that the language of my family & roots is going to be disappeared. And the speech of this lady made me just so emotional ! Glad to see theres people that are trying to do something for humanity ! Sagapo 💛🦅💛

Many of the Pontic people were settled in Northern Greece, outside of Katerini, after the "Pontic Trail of Tears". In the villages surrounding Katerini, Ponti can be heard daily with a mix of Turkish and Modern Greece. My Wife was born in this region and her first language was Ponti with a mix of Turkish. We visit yearly and love this area of Greece.

Unfortunately the people of Pontus and their language has been the victim of the rivalry between the two nations. I think that one of the greatest pain that somebody can feel is when they are forced to leave their homes, the place that grew up. Very beautiful language btw...

It is so wonderful sounding. I live currently in Germany where I attend school and have a former friend who 's originally from Trapezond, I 'm not friends with him because of some private beef we had, but in that time I started to read Wikipedia and discovered his hometown' s original past. He said that a minority of the people are Greeks and he claims he 's from his point of majority. But somethings are fishy about him tho. Greetings from a friendly N. I never knew where term "Pontian refugees" came from beyond my country 's far-right nationalists, until recently and I 'm learning many interestings facts about the Caucasus 🇬🇪🇦🇲🇦🇿 . Could clearly understand 85% of what she said based on my mother tongue, Greek, and my knowledge of Greek and especially Byzantine Greek. Different endings and sounds make it a bit harder, but there are patterns. sh comes from ch, tz comes from ts, oftentimes e comes from Greek eta (η) which in the mainland became i and æ comes from ya. Also, I noticed that ντο/do means what, εφτώ/eftó means I do, αδά/athá means here and some others. Once you notice those, you can even understand the speech a bit without watching the Greek subtitles, which usually requires understanding more than 90% of the words. I wish the Pontic language was recognized and an official language of Pontus. I'd definitely make an effort to learn it, with it being the easiest official language for a Greek, similar to how Spanish and Italian are very easy for one another. Essentially, Greek and Pontic aren't two different languages but two different and equal in value dialects. Dialects I say, because they both come from the common Hellenic tongue. Non Greeks/Barbarians have languages, we have dialects, divisions of speech. Καλημέρα!

Pontic language could survive and flourish via opening a Greek language department in either Trabzon or Giresun university. Instead of wasting millions for fuel and arm in the Aegean by both countries, this money could be donated to these universities to deliver culture accompanied with fraternal message. This needs political "cost benefit analysis" on both ends, but in a sincere way for our people's future in Turkey and Greece. Remember, We are in 21st Century and we fly with time always forward in a straight vectorial line!

2:40 ahahahh wth i thought it was something specific to my family. my grandma used to tell me the same thing and some similar ones too like i wanna hug your 'thing'. funny to hear but hard to explain. im not pontic but i think its common across the region.

It’s find it sad when I look back at the Greek Genocide that took over where my heritage is from. I wish it was still standing because it would be so great if I could have travelled to Pontus if it still existed.

I got 100% of it since my native dialect is Cypriotic, I just had to re-listen a couple of parts.

Her accent heavily affected by Demotic. This is not authentic Pontic Greek. She hardly pronounce the sounds of "ch" and "sh". You could find authentic untouched Pontic Greek only in the mountain villages of three southeastern districts of Trabzon province, Turkey spoken by elderly women, especially women.

Semitic language, sounds like Spanish. Aromanian is like archaic Romanian. The tribe of Dan scattered all through Asia Minor and Europe and formed Romance languages.
