We thought this fox wouldn't make it... but he proved us wrong!

Over the years, we have seen some horrific injuries here at Wildlife Aid, but the damage done to this poor fox was something we honestly thought may have been too much...
Found tangled in a barbed wire fence, the damage done to his leg was appalling. Whilst he was quickly cut free and rushed back to the centre, it was down to Sally, our head vet, to try and save his life...

This story really shows the better side of human nature, from the gentleman who called in the rescue, to Lawrie and Simon for the rescue, to Sally and Alana for the hours put in to the foxes recovery and no doubt the countless people behind the scenes at WAF who have changed bandages, helped with physio, fed him, cleaned out the pen and more. One foxes life is owed to the dedication and kindness of so many… but the reward for that hard work… seeing him run free. What better reward is there than that?

My late father rehabbed deer for the DNR in the US. It all began when found a wounded buck, stuck in barbed wire. It had been bitten by dogs and had shotgun sell lodged in its shoulder. He got it out of the barbed wire and brought it home. We always had animals growing up. He would bring home orphans and return them to wild. When someone asked me about my Dad I always he was a combination of Grizzly Adams and Bob Vila.

Bloody wonderful, when I saw the fox hanging from the barbed wire I admit there were tears from this 74 year old London bloke, brought up to view foxes etc as messy, predatory vermin but who, long ago realised that they were las here before we were and our interactions have caused such friction. Although over the last 30 years or so, I don’t encourage them now, I enjoys our daily visitations and have made sure that there are no hazards in their way and we all love the visits, especially when cubs come into the equation.
