Fox Stranded on a Roof for Days Gets a Dramatic Rescue!

Night rescues are always dramatic...
The "A-team" of Wildlife Aid's rescuers were called out one night, in the rain, to rescue a fox that had been stuck on a roof for 3 days. After careful planning, the team spread out to corner the animal. Sean and Johnny did all the work and left a disappointed Simon out of the rescue!
The fox stayed at the centre a few days to recuperate and was released where he was found, back to his territory. It's important to understand that adult foxes must go back to their own territory, even if it's not an ideal site in our opinion. This chap knows the place he is from very well as he was more than likely born very close by! As much as we would prefer to, we can't release him in the countryside, or in what we feel is a "better" area, because he wouldn't know where to hunt, where to sleep and would be in trouble!

@@brisingarinstaridavis7084 it's important to release adult foxes back in a pleace that they know, as it will know where to sleep, hunt due to the fact that it has lived its a huge part of of its life there. if the released an urban fox in tot he countryside it would most likely die, as it would know were to get food or sleep or killed by another fox becuase its in its territory.

@wildlifeaid
@wildlifeaid 8 лет назад
As much as we'd like to move him to somewhere we feel is safer, it really is not good for the fox. The city is his territory. He knows where to hunt, eat, find shelter and knows the boundaries of his territory. If we moved him then he wouldn't know where to find anything and could very easily wander into the territory of another fox with violent results. It's not an easy call but is only made for his welfare.

I love what you do with your own unique problems but why dont you make more use of box traps. Highly effective, cheap, safe to use both for the operator and the animal and no requirement to transfer to a carry cage once caught. Here in NZ we use them for everything from deer to mice where we want live capture with the minimum stress. All mammals have one great leveler, food. In this case a box trap with some meat placed behind the pressure plate and set where he can see it placed, walk away and wait. From what I see of foxes they seek small dark places to hide and food is an added bonus. There is no risk to the animal or the human and with a cover over it you are offering minimum stress r interaction with human. Do keep up your great work. I would be very interested in your comments as Im sure you have your reasons.
