take it from final destination, don't try to escape an elevator. if an elevator starts falling, spread out on the floor to minimize impact.

I have a HUGE phobia of elevators. I was always scared of them but like 1-2 months ago I got stuck in one (which is my biggest fear) and it's traumatised me to this day. tomorrow I am going to try to get over my fear and I am going to try and go in an elevator. wish me luck 🤞🏼

Are elevators always that huge in America? I'm from Aus, never ever seen one that big here in my entire life. Also, I've never seen those buttons on elevators before but that could just be because I haven't noticed them.

Citrine Crystal I've lived in multiple apartments and sometimes they could be that big and sometimes not. I have family living in condos and their elevators are sometimes big or divided into about 4 so they're smaller. Hospital elevators are bigger to fit beds/patients. They're not really as rare as you think! Edit: I'm from Canada, not the US. I'm sure I've seen many sizes of elevators in the United States though, in person.

Depends a lot on where the elevator is used. Most residential or office buildings wouldn't have an elevator that large for passengers, but I could see something like that being used as a service elevator to move large objects around, or perhaps in a converted industrial building.

UniSA has a big elevator in the art buildings for equipment (still used by people though). Majority of the bigger elevators are bigger for a reason; biggest I've seen is a car elevator which is a fucking nightmare in itself.

*PSA* "elevators aren't air-tight boxes. They're meant to kept ventilated for your safety" and this is exactly why you don't RIDE one in the case of a fire emergency. Not only are there chances of the elevator getting stuck (malfunction, overweight, etc) but if it DOES get stuck and there is no absolute way of escaping, the smoke from the fire can come through the vents and suffocate. Escape through the emergency stairs exit and stay safe kids!

I’ve been stuck on an elevator for a few minutes. My brother lodged a stick in the door from the outside while I was getting in with my other brother. When the elevator went up a smidge, it started screaming and the doors would not open. My brothers, being the annoying jerks they were, would not remove the stick (you could only pull it out from the outside because of its shape), and started jumping on the elevator as hard as they could. It was bloody terrifying, and you bet I was crying (I was about twelve when this happened). I did press the call button, but my bro eventually pulled out the damn stick and the thing worked okay again -3-

Pressing the Fireman's Hat button does not call the Fire Dep't. It is used BY the Fire Dep't to put the elevator into "Fire Mode" during an actual fire.

I used to work at the F&F Tower in Panama and elevator number one apparently started to free fall from approximately the 40th floor and stopped at the 20th floor. My coworkers and I could hear the cables whipping around on the 17th floor when our boss was leaving and called the elevator. So yea, I don't trust elevators.

Funny story Once when I was 9 I was on holiday in Spain and the hotel had an elevator. My sister and I thought we would be rebellious and use the elevator by ourselves even though our parents told us not to. So we got in the elevator and the doors closed. We pushed the button and the elevator started moving, as it should, but when we got to the top, the doors didn’t open. Me and my sister started freaking out and started smashing all the buttons but none of them were working. After like 15 minutes we realised that there was a button we needed to push to open the door xD thanks for reading!

There is a LOT of elevators that does not have three "helping buttons". There is one "call button" and that's it. And you can push it, but sometimes that doesn't work either. Look at my profile picture of Jackie and you'll see my face that I have right now.. :/ what did we learn today guys? Nothing. Everyone knows that there are buttons on the elevator lol.

ofcourse a firefighter or elivator tech will just tell you to stay put and trust in the "professionals". well, what if its been 2 days and your dying of dehydration? should you still "trust in the professionals" to save you? how about some decent advise incase you end up stuck for an extended period of time

i once got stuck on a elevator.. it had a a broken ventilation a.k.a stuck there for 20 min limited oxygen and my sister was crying and wasting it btw this is told by a ten yr old ( meh ) :)) we were going to my friends building and it had 2 same looking buildings! we went to one of em and got stuck but we were with another ppl and they called their dad who somehow freed us p.s : it was not even the right building

I have a fear of elevators closing the doors on me and crushing me. And I'm scared of it falling or glitching where the elivators4 won't stop moving and speeds up and maybe open the doors while at it. There is a video of that hapening and it's very similar to the nightmares I get about elevators
