Ruski means Ruthenian. Ruthenia Rubra was part of Poland for hundreds of years (today western Ukraine) Saint Jacek Odrowąż brought pierogi from Ruthenia Rubra to Poland in the 12th century. Once, while eating pierogi, the following prayer was said: 'St. Jacek with pierogi, pray to God for us that these pierogi will be on the table all year round and protect us from hunger ”. Obwarzanek krakowski and bagels come from Kraków. The obwarzanek krakowski has been produced since the 14th century. The dough is steamed first and then baked. The Jews of Kraków started baking bagels in the 17th century. The bagels were made occasional. Bagels were given to women after a successful childbirth. The bagels reached the USA with great emigration in the 19th century. Today they are a symbol of NY. The schabowy or schnitzel is a descendant of the cotoletta alla milanese. This dish was brought by Marshal Joseph Radetzky to Vienna. 😉

This is reminiscent of my trip to Poland in August 2020. I've been to Warsaw, Gadansk ang Krakow. I've been to all these places on this Vlog. I even had this donut. Kielbasa is different from the “standard” sausage because of the seasonings. Like Italian vs German sausages vs Kiełbasa? They’re all different. But I imagine Kiełbasa is similar enough to our neighbors’. I’m vegan for many years and wish they would import some of the vegan kiełbasa from Poland. Especially around Easter. I start dreaming of kiełbasa biała.

All four of my grandparents were born in Poland. They emigrated to Buffalo NY USA in the late 19th century. Half a century later, I was born as a native American citizen. I have never set foot in Poland. but.......... Every single food shown in this video is familiar to me. We had pierogi every week. In Buffalo fresh pierogi are available with cheese or sauerkraut filling in almost every supermarket. Real Polish style paczki (jelly donuts) are way better than what most Americans call donuts. Kielbasa, kapusta, kartofla, you name it. We basically ate Polish food every day. My Aunt knew where to get duck blood to make czarnina. I wouldn't touch the stuff. I make some of this food myself to this day, especially the breaded pork cutlets. But not czarnina. Let's have placek instead, spread with baranek.

Pork cutlet, rot kohl (red cabbage), and sauerkraut are best friends. I'm thinking Polish cuisine has their own versions of rot kohl and sauerkraut. Glad you tried the rose flavored donuts...so you never have to try another rose flavored...anything. 😆Also, being Asian, if I traveled to all the Slavic countries, I'd have to bring a rice cooker, and bring rice to every meal, just to soak up and balance all the salty meats.

I have a Son (41) with Down Syndrome (though he calls it Up Syndrome). Many see that as a misfortune, I see him as a blessing. When my sister passed 5 years ago. The dreaded “C”. I was crying. My son asked me, “Dad, why are you crying?” I said, “I miss my sister.” He said, “She’s in your heart”. That was profound. The reason I'm telling you this is It’s the same with your mom. Molly's on a roll on this one... They walk into a Vodka tasting shop and as they are ready to down shots of flavored vodka, Matt asks "are these going to make us hungry" to which Molly gives a blank stare, as if to say "why is that a concern?" But, she would ask Matt why it was part of the food tour. Then they go out on a hunt for kielbasa and Molly says she's "on a hunt for a man with sausages." Nobody seemed to notice the sexual innuendo there. I guess that's what Polish vodka does to you.

Well i'd say that you ended up pretty good. A lot of tourists from other countries get into these tourist traps and they don't get the good stuff. I think Poland is pretty difficult to find the real traditional food. (I travel too and i've been for example in Italy, and i think it was easier to find genuine food. Same in Hispany, Czech Republic, Sweden etc.) You did pretty good job. My dad runs AirBnb in Kraków, my family is from Kraków. I live on the other side of the country, but i'm there pretty much monthly. U Doroty is a great place, we either take food from there or eat there often. The first one i can't really judge because i never been there, but these dumplings looked a bit overcooked to me. Really good dumplings are at "Polakowscy", i'd say it's the best place to try polish food. I personally prefer dumplings with shrooms and cabbage. Lot of people eat them only on Christmas, but i love them all year round. You can eat them all year because polish people have big tradition of making jars of pickles, jams, drying mushroms, and smoking meat. It was originally a method of conservating food for winter, but it became a tradition and we pretty much eat those things all year. Next time you must try polish traditional summer food like beetroot salad, mizeria (which is pretty much cocumber with sour cream or yogurt, salt and pepper - really good in a hot summer), dumplings with srawberries or other fruits like blueberries or currant (my fav, pretty sour). And to not forget the most important stuff - you never really been to Poland if didn't try white vodka with dill pickle. :D And don't confuse dill pickle with normal pickled cocumber. Normal pickles have vinegar in them. Dill pickles are naturally pickled for months in grandma's kitchen cupboard. These are the best. Definetly help with digestion, same with cabbage. Of course barszcz, made from dill beetroots and polish chicken soup are good stuff to try too. Nice video, you are doing a really god job with this vlogs. Keep it up. :)

Fat thursday is the last thursday of the Carnival (kind like a mardi gras). We pack ourselves with pączki (All you can eat) cause next time is the 40 days of the feast. To be more accurate, some of religious people feast before the easter but fat thursday is a tradition for everyone.. and everyone (but the fit couples and maybe diabetics 😉) are into this festive day. There are no special events that day. We just eat fatty pączki - at work, at school (bosses and principals even supply them 😉) at home, with friends, in hurry, on the couch, WHEREVER 😁
