Guys, sometimes days just don't go as planned and this video is proof. Also, sometimes giant black witch moths hide in our solar shed.

We had the same problem with our tractor and an auger, just drove the front of the tractor up on a set of car ramps, that I use to change my oil, and it worked fine. This video was not a bust, I'm going to have to watch it several more times just to hear Jonathan's high pitch scream when the moth came at him.

When drilling the holes with the smaller auger, lift the auger so a couple of spirals are above ground level and then slide in two 4"x4"s to hold it at that level with the ground. Remove the extension, reattach the auger, pull it the rest of the way out. Assemble in reverse order. For each hole. Tedious but less expensive than more concrete.

Learned how to break joints tripping out, threw blocks tripping in, worked the board catching stands, worked a vac truck cleaning pits for freshwater zones, finally got into the engineering side on frack designing frack fluids. I tried not to work the floor, got knocked on my tail too many times and had a psycho driller who got a few people hurt bad. Retired now thankfully.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Also he needs to adjust the angle so it's not so crooked. After you go down 7 1/2 feet you wouldn't be able to make them plumb.

They can move they panels based on the season to get more sun rays. Anyway, keep it up. Sometimes you do less but you still moving forward!!!

I'd watch y'all do "nothing" all day. Sometimes finding how not to do something is the biggest accomplishment you could hope for. At least you got a preview of what the fan will feel like in there when the pterodactyl took flight. You should keep the moth around, teach him to fly circles overhead. He would give shade, a breeze and steady dust devils for nine nine daily.

How about continuing with the 12" holes but raising the tractor? Create a platform out of pallets that it could drive up? That would give you the extra height to lift the auger out of the hole.

You have your "compass" next to metal stakes. Maybe what side the sensor is on affects the reading. Get a real compass and stand away from the stakes and off the ground. Arizona desert is notorious for hot rocks. Just ask anyone who metal detects for gold nuggets.

@@TinyShinyHome That is because it is the largest moth found in North America. It is called(no lie!) The Black Witch Moth (female) Ascalapha odorata. The white line denotes it as the female. They can grow to a wing span of even inches. Originally from the Caribbean and Central America as in Mexico. Although they prefer the southern part of North America they have been found up near the Canadian border!

Any magnetic compass is super imprecise and can be affected by nearby metals, so you caught the stakes in the ground, but even mineral composition in the soil can make a difference. In addition, magnetic north is not the ideal direction to point your solar panels. The best way to check is to follow the shadows because magnetic north is off from geographic north by like 12 degrees I think at the moment, but also check the shadows all year to find the ideal average for angle and direction. I expect since there's a maximum supply any panel can generate, that a more winter based angle might be better even if your demand in the summer is higher, you can only get to 100% with direct sun in the summer. I'd be willing to get to 90% of max in the summer so that you can still get like 85% in the winter, rather than failing to get 110% in the summer and then only getting 65% in the winter.

Well you take the good with the bad! You really need rough sawn 1×12 wood too wrap that or use a rough sawn plywood finish too skin the beam. Do they have a 16" auger that could be used? And how possible is it to lower the height of the poles, that would reduce depth need for stabilization!? Away way a few suggestions! Because at the end of the day you're the one's living with it! Till next time, take care and God bless amen.

It’s an interesting mix. When doing auger work, you have to add water or else the loose stuff just falls through the post hole digger. But once the hole is dug the sides don’t ever come off unless you kick them or intentionally mess with it.
