I'm sorry lads, but that wasn't 1.5m/2.4km. There is no way you covered that distance, running at that pace in under 10 mins. Love the effort but please measure accurately
Dunno where your getting those numbers from but from someone who's training atm, i can tell you, the requirements are slightly higher/harder/more than the numbers you've found lol but great video!!
@@Smokiejoe679 So firstly i want to state that unfortunately i didn't get in due to medical (i have hypermobility and they don't even chance it after the last defence cuts). BUT i have learnt a lot along the way. The 5 miler is kinda unique to the Royal Marine in terms that they ALWAYS do it to every recruit BUT the RAF is a lot more chill than the marines. Now i was entering into the WSOP role and i can tell you for a fact that the 5 mile run of death is not included in that roles training HOWEVER, i do believe that the RAF's Regiment Gunner role do that run, i know for a fact the specialist units and special operation groups underneath that title definitely do it and a lot worse than some of the stuff the royal marines do as its the raf's low key top people as they have to protect all the raf's assets wherever, whenever, but i'm not 100% sure if its a standard thing for the basic RG Role, i heard somewhere that they did but the raf tends to keep low transparency on some of the things that role does because of how complex it is and how many different routes you could take. I also know a few people who went into that role and they did do the run but i'm unclear if that was voluntary or not. Anyways hope this helps, i'd be happy to answer any further questions!
@@Orcaben1 First of all let’s just clarify something you said “that for someone that is in training at the moment” then you say that you didn’t get in due to medical? So I don’t know whether to take what you say seriously. Second I was in the Royal Marines I served for about 8 years before I left and I can tell you right now we don’t do the “5 miler”.. The last commando test that I had to do to get my Green Beret was a 30 miler that is not counting the amount of miles that you’ve yomped , ran culminating up to that point! The RAF and The Royal Marines are not the same and we’ll never be . I had an Ex RAF reg guy who was in my troop in training he passed out with me , I asked him why he left the RAF to join the Royal Marines and he said because the RAF is full of *€$%#%^****************** (fill in the blanks)👍
@@Smokiejoe679 why not? Shit happens and if you really were in the rm for 8 then you'd know how bull the budget cuts always were, they are more stringent now than they ever were and just because i didn't get all the way in doesn't invalidate anything i say. Now secondly, i never said the raf and the rm was the same and your a classic case of ego above all trying to put down the raf and say the rm is better for literally no reason. But finally, i have a friend who is currently training into the RM, so i know what training he does, one of the common practises is long endurance runs, one of which being a five mile "run of death" that is regularly practiced to prepare you for the last 30 miles run over the marshes that gets you in. The raf doesn't do the 30 miles and that wasn't the question, the raf does 5 mile runs and that's enough, obviously the RM is better, they are made to be but you don't go about putting every other service down, the RAF Regiment special groups routinely serve with RM Service Members on the field and in training sites, so they are clearly judged fairly if they are required to work together so often. Well done for getting through and serving for 8 years before you left, but don't put down other services, that's how people die when there's a main conflict and no one wants to help one another due to ego amoungst sectors.
@@Orcaben1 you said you were in training in your first comment read it again then when replying back to me you said that you didn’t get through training because you were injured. Now those were your words not mine. You say you have a friend whose In Royal Marine training? That does the 5 miles of death that prepare us for the 30 miler 🤦🏽♂️ that is bullshit , I have completed Royal Marines training and we have never done a 5 mile of death when I was going through my selection and can assure you it still doesn’t get done today. Again I didn’t compare the RAF to the Royal Marines , you did!!!! Re- read your reply to me you said “the 5 miler of death is unique to that which the Royal Marines do well i can tell you right now that’s not true. Is your friend really currently training in the marines or is he gone off injured aswell 😂 Listen because you’ve never been in you would never know but having a healthy rivalry between the three services is not a bad thing , it just shows that we are proud of our own different units/regiments . Nothing bad with a little bit of healthy banter and competitiveness that is what makes the British Military. I respect anybody that serve’s. I just don’t like and respect people who said they’ve served and they’ve not . *Walter* 👊🏽💥💥💥💥
hi you did the sit ups in the wrong from. you need to do it with hands on your temples and raise your elbows above your knees in the up position. you also have to do a bleep test and score a minimum of 9.10
That wouldn't be a pass. A number of reps wouldn't be counted, hands on hips throughout, at one point arms crossed, collapsing on the floor at the end of the run! PTI would fail you.
Aslong as u do it ull pass. Had my pjft and aslong as ur sit ups n push ups are correct form and u do the run without stopping and before the 11.30 ull be fine
Yes the guys below are right however I'd run on a treadmill if possible to reduce stress on the leg and knee joints and avoid anything that could cause you to fail medical or even the basic training.
Completed my basic training a month ago, it was physically harder than I expected but DO NOT be put off by that. Before starting training I was fit enough to pass the fitness test and then the bleep test. If you can do that, you can pass basic training. You'll also be happy to know it is much easier for females👍🏼 If you haven't applied already do it asap because I applied March 2019 and I've only just graduated. Good luck
Thank you all for your tips it’s hugely appreciated! My fitness test is still a while away but I will past the sit ups and press ups. I just find when running on a treadmill my knee begins to hurt and the test is on a treadmill not outdoors so I’m working on that otherwise 🤞
About to join the raf cadets, im scared about the 15 pushups. I can do the run ( i run 1.7 miles every day ) and the 36 situps (i can do 40) but i cant do ONE pushup, how do i do it!! Please tell me
How? Practice on your knees. Then build it up. • Press ups on knees • Press ups as normal • Press ups with feet higher (perhaps on a sofa etc). Practice every other day. It will build.. 💪
None of your sit ups are valid. Hands at the side of your head, touching the knees with the elbow. You fitness freaks should nail that. No cheating! ;) Nearly Ten minutes for a 1.5 mile run? Get to 7.30 and come back and we’ll talk.
