We used the Leica M11 for a month! 

17 minutes of David talking about a Leica camera just gave me a whole extra year of life.

Wow, unexpected to see a Leica review on here but I love it! Especially seeing a tech focused review on what isn’t necessarily considered a camera that most people would purchase for the tech. 📷🤙🏽

Would definitely be down for camera-focussed photography vlogs like the later chunk of this video. Feels like one of the best ways to show what a camera can produce is to simply show it being used, and what kind of shots you can realistically get without a ton of equipment and setup.

Built-in internal storage! Holy shit. Why don't more dedicated cameras do this?! FF cameras would definitely be able to take advantage of 64GB or 128GB of EXTREMELY fast internal storage as a buffer that can then flush to the SD card so you can get much higher performance with big files.

Almost 9K for the body of a full frame camera where you will miss a lot of shots at the beginning. Sounds great! I'll take 5 of them! 😂 But seriously, I don't get why these prices are still justified when there is a medium format 102 MP camera on the market with slightly less amazing build quality but on the other hand you have auto focus and files that blow away full frame sensors. And you can get it with a prime lens for less than the Leica body. I see a camera as a tool to express your creativity. But if that tool fails you because you missed focus it misses the entire point for me. But hey, it has... "charm". 👌🏻

I want an M11 so bad. Looks like such a nice camera with some great extras I didn't expect from Leica. I'm currently rocking an older M240 (that originally came out in 2012) and I love it, but it's definitely starting to show its age. Low light situations are difficult, dynamic range isn't great by today's standards, and I don't have as much leeway in post as I'd like with the RAW files. But the price is just too much for me to justify buying an M11. I might sell my M240 in 6-8 months and buy a use M10-P as an upgrade. Will be a huge upgrade over my M240 in image quality and while I won't get things like the pixel binning, internal storage, and USB-C charging/transfer, it'll be much more of a reasonable price on eBay.

Those outdoor scenes in the park; The camera capturing the video to me has nicer colours and more satisfying framing than the photos taken with the Leica. Not sure which camera, grader or cameraperson that is but; Props! Leica looks good, but honestly, so does the x100v :D.

Makes me wish I had never sold my Leica M6. They are all so expensive now. I think I accepted about three and a half grand for that with a 35mm Summicron. Yeah, they're a little bit more than that now. Like twice that much.

"The Leica M11 doesn't have autofocus and a lot of people are going to be annoyed by that...". Really? Who are those "lot people" who buy a 8000$ Leica camera and once they unboxed it: - WTF???? NO AUTOFOCUS???? That's what M cameras are, manual focus ones for a hundred years so no one is buying an M thinking he's gonna get autofocus, unless you didn't know about this small detail before you got this camera for the review!!!!!

About those missed focus shots... You have to keep in mind that the rangefinder is just a proxy for the actual image impinging on the sensor. There are two problems here. First, just generically expect meh accuracy with lens longer than 50mm or so. The RF baseline just isn't long enough to provide high enough precision. Second, unit to unit manufacturing slop (for both camera and lens) will affect focusing accuracy. Yes, even with Leica. This will manifest especially with fast lenses used up close. Shoot a ruler lengthwise and close up, with your fast lens and the aperture wide open. It's rare with a new camera and lens, but don't be particularly surprised if the mm mark you focused on isn't quite what's actually in focus on the recorded image. What's worse: if you use the camera with any regularity, expect having to send the camera back to Leica for RF calibration periodically. The RF _will_ fall out of calibration over time. By the way, the rangefinder for the Pixii is user serviceable; Leica's isn't. RF focusing is retro-cool, popular with the kool kids and all that. Just know also that fundamentally it's also a form _over_ function thing; it's done for sake of style and cool. When focusing accuracy really matters for a shot, use the live view on the LCD panel.
