We also moved from the UK to AU during the pandemic, and last year we moved to Hervey Bay. The people, quality of life and weather make this an absolutely amazing place to live!

Hi guys, at about the 1 minute mark you mentioned about the safari tent and your wife said but with no wild animals. Just to let you know that in Dubbo, NSW, there is a zoo called Taronga Western Plains Zoo, and you can camp in the savannah and you're adjacent to the African savannah and can wake up Giraffes and other African animals just outside your cabin, cheers

Like many others we retired to Hervey Bay after being occasional visitors from Sydney for 35 years. I have seen the place grow from around 10,000 to now closer to 70,000 and have to say it's a wonderful lifestyle especially if you are retired because so is half the population, giving rise to clubs and organisations which cater for the needs of all. The sub tropical winters are glorious and attract many caravanners and motor homers from southern states (mexicans) to escape the cold. Sure some places are closed in winter but the opposite side of the coin is that summer months can be a bit hot and humid. I grew up in the UK, have happy memories and always enjoy going back to visit but the reality is that every day I realise how lucky I am to live in Hervey Bay.

Good on you for getting away for a winter break despite the weather🙂. Hervey Bay is a popular spot. Hmm future suggestions? For a closer getaway, Caloundra is lovely too. Some beautiful beaches, parks , markets and a great coastal walk too. You can even see and visit the northern most tip of Bribie island from Bulcock Beach. The Queensland Air museum is in Caloundra too. Interesting and fun for both adults and kids. Moreton Island is nice for a weekend getaway lots of activities to do like snorkeling the shipwrecks, sand dune toboganing, segways along the beach and you can do the wild dolphin feeding activity. You can also just go for a day trip to Tangalooma on Moreton and do the dolphins and other activities. Tangalooma. Noosa area of course is always lovely too.

We would spend our holidays at Hervey Bay when I was a kid. They had a waterslide and putt putt, that was it 😅 but we always had a blast.

We bought a camper trailer a while ago, and now we just take off whenever we can. Even had a weekend in Yeppoon a few weeks ago - it's only 8 hours from our place!

Hey mate, just to be picky. Those "ducks" looked & sounded more like a native birds species "Coots". You are becoming more Aussie every video. I can't wait to see a reverse culture shock video when you eventually return back to the UK for a holiday. Keep up the good work, as I really enjoy watching your Vlogs. Cheers.

You need a boat to fully appreciate Hervey Bay. 15 minutes across to Fraser Island and you have 70km of beach, dunes & beautiful creeks running into the sea; and that is just 1/4 of Fraser Is beaches. Add in whales, dolphins, snorkelling & fishing, it doesn't get any better.

Hello! Thank you for all the hard work and informative videos. Can you please make a video talking about the spiders and other common insects one should expect to see regularly in their homes in Australia, especially in big cities like Melbourne or Sydney? I’ve been reading a lot about all the factors before moving and came across many videos, articles, comments that talk about really big spiders one can see on a daily basis within their homes. Would be very appreciated if you can talk about this.

I can probably answer this without over dramatising too much possible based better around your target area. I’ve lived here since the late 70’s in six rental places around Liverpool area NSW and my now home just North of Campbelltown for decades, currently work in Sydney CBD if the location helps. I had the same dislike of the insects when I arrived nothing phases me these days. If you spray the perimeter of your house and around all the openings window door frames etc.. with an outside “perimeter spray”, which is sold at the hardware and just about every supermarket once a year, which crawling bugs makes it inside the house usually dies shortly after. If you don’t like flies you can get automatic fly sprays (cheap as chips) with fly spray tins 1-2 that will last the summer. Every sensible house should have fly screens on windows plus security screen doors front and back so you can throw open all the windows and get fresh air inside. My sisters comments when lying in the backyard many years ago sunny herself was that some of the insects that you see flying around on a hot day look like they’re about to land on an Aircraft Carrier and that true. My daughter was a local native wild life volunteer and looked after all of the larger native animal and while visiting Taronga zoo on Sydney harbour with us in her late teens, she got invited into the bug house by a keeper and had one of the largest stick insect placed on her for some time. It was by far the largest insert I had every seen over to 25cm. NSW in Oz

How about you try Toowoomba for a trip. Its a great place to visit and has many attractions you and the kids can see and experience and its only 1 and a half hours west of Brisbane. If you didn't know its the largest inland city in Australia that's not a capital city. Only Canberra is larger then Toowoomba. Maybe come during summer as it is a little bit colder in winter then the Sunshine Coast is. Although I suspect its would be a lot warmer then your used to when you were in England. Also there are plenty of wineries around the region as well. Look forward to catching up with you guys if you decide to come up this way. Keep up the great work. Cheers Mr T

Hi mate. Hope you are well? If you want to take the kids to somewhere absolutely awesome with the biggest play ground know to man. Go for a stroll up to Airlie Beach. Absolutely beautiful place. By the way. I haven't forgotten you to take you out in the boat. Work has been horrendous :(. Meet you up at the Tavern one night for a beer..

I live in Hervey Bay and would like to remind you all that Covid has caused a lot of tourist attractions to go broke and they haven’t reopened yet. Pre Covid we had an indoor trampoline park that was open in the winter and some things have to close for maintenance in winter such as the free Westside water park. Winter is usually whale watching season so I don’t know why you didn’t go. There’s also the Mary Poppins museum in Maryborough and the great park there. I don’t think you really researched the area very well.
