As a Cards fan, I’m not surprised in the least by the move. In all fairness, everything that went wrong last season wasn’t completely Marmol’s fault, however there were plenty of instances where he made managerial decisions that cost the Cardinals some games. What did Oli do to show he’s their guy you ask, C Rose? Exactly what Plouffe insinuated: showed that he’s willing to do whatever he’s told by the front office. Shildt showed he wasn’t that kind of manager so he had to go in the front office’s eyes, aka the “philosophical differences”.
I agree partially, mostly in the fact that he made bad decisions during games, game 2 versus the angles he brought helsley in the 7th inning and then brought in Gallegos in the 9th when the front of the lineup was coming up
He did plenty last year to prove he is not worthy of an extension. His early season handling of Tyler O’Neill and Contreras being amongst the pile of evidence. It’s pretty bad when Yadi and Wainwright have to step in and show more leadership capabilities than the Manager and GM.
For me as a cardinals fan, I am also surprised, they guy had a bad year in general and also kinda messed us up. Seriously, putting Paul Goldschmidt 2 second in the lineup is just wrong, put him 3 in front of nado and we will do better, we had him hitting third in 2022 and look what happened then
That seems to be the way some front offices are going, they would prefer a guy with less experience and lower cost, who is more likely to do as they want, vs a name guy who is willing to buck the machine and do what they think is best
Marmol and management all need to be fired. Cardinals have had a great tradition of winning baseball but since he has taken over they are a disgrace. They are scared to spend real money on talented free agents. As a cardinals fan I don't even enjoy watching the games anymore. You just dropped 2 of 3 to the white sox .Your team isn't responding to you. You have a have an absolute bum in gallegos. This idiot can't even record an out without giving up a half a dozen runs.
