It was a fantasy music ride. I was a teen in High school we would dance 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽and roller skate 🛼 🛼🛼🛼🛼🛼to songs of the 70’s, there were so many great bands.

Me too I'm so glad I grew up on this music I remember when AWB came out ! If I'm not mistaken pick up the pieces was their first single track then came the album and they never picture the group who they were to after maybe 2nd or 3rd album then you know exactly who they were didn't make any difference all their songs are Legendary The only remaining original member and they are still on tour I love seeing the new generation seeing their reaction hearing the old schoolers music that are Timeless 😍

Our music was created by musicians without the use of any "autotune". Today's music is programmed on a computer and half the vocalists can't actually sing.

Back in the 70-s when this came out, everyone thought this was your typical Black Funk Band, until they saw them on tv and Blew everyone's mind. Funk...in Scotland? It just goes to show, that you can't judge a Book by it's cover.

I love it, but wouldn't it make sense to first react to a black funk band that invented the music first? It's a pattern on these reaction channels, Elvis, before Little Richard, Rightous Brothers before The impressions,.AWB before James Brown or Sly Stone. Makes it painfully obvious how so many of the pioneers were marketed strictly to a segregated audience. The black artists that did cross over had either a whitewash production or the most poppy. Don't get me wrong, totally down with AWB, just not for a first time intro to funk.

@@ffjsb Not judging from the reaction channels. A few exceptions but for the most part whatever get's the most likes and is the most mainstream. I got one channel to react to my suggestion, took over a year of consistant requests. I don't have the time to bother.

I love to see younger people’s reaction to the music I grew up with. I’m a 65-year-old White grandma. I remember this song. I was dancing around the kitchen. It made me so happy! Music, all types of music, cross boundaries and races. It brings people together. It’s beautiful to experience. Good work young-uns.👵

This song is AWB'S biggest American hit ever!!! The song went all the way to No.1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Soul charts in the spring of 1975. This song is purely instrumental at best. A kick-ass song indeed!!! One more thing about this group. They came from Scotland. Who knew white guys can played funk!!!

Ok, i gotta say this. Steve Ferrone was a studio guy who played on countless hits and toured with big stars all over the world, BUT he WASNT their original drummer. The original drummer, Robbie Macintosh. on their first US tour, in 1974, was at an aftershow party, and someone passed him a tray with what he assumed to be his drug of choice- Cocaine...so he snorted a big line. Moments later he turned blue, collapsed and died. It was heroin. This is from a reunion show, but i dont think they did much after that. Maybe two albums at best. i remember it well. Tremendous talent, and another life cut way too short by heroin. I hate that stuff.

4:15 Headless basses and guitars were created by Steinberger and are using double ball strings, their tuning is more stable than most conventional instruments. the tuning keys are located at the bottom of the body. Oh, I forgot : the sax part at the end of the song is a tribute to Blondie's "Rapture". The extended version is a must hear.

I'm a professional musician, who has played this at weddings at least 1000 times It's the perfect song when your lead singer needs a rest - it keeps the floor filled, and showcases all of the other band members The most times I've been involved in its use - is at the beginning of the 2nd set (out of 3) ... to warm the audience up before the singer comes out and does Sir Duke!

At company parties everyone was dancing, just to "pick up the pieces" during the vocals. While dancing we'd bend towards the floor as if we were picking up pieces. It was just fun to do.

One of the funkiest songs ever recorded. My older siblings use to play this song and I was already in love with it. Then later when I started djing and bought the album I nearly passed out. They're from SCOTLAND?!? WHAT?!?! I went on a deep dive into their music after that and discovered that their songs have been heavily sampled through the years and deservingly so. These dudes are funky as a mug!! Love'em!!

I played alto and bari sax in a stage band in the '70s, and this was one of the staples of stage bands at the time. Fun to play. On this particular song I prefer the arrangement, mix, and sax solo in the studio version.

SOOOOO much soul and rhythm lives in so many people from Scotland.....it's unbelievable....hell, I am a 67 year old white Scottish lady who plays in a steel band....I even have my own pan!!!....and my dad played Louis Armstrong Dixieland jazz for about 60 years....music and passion and Scotland.... intertwined forever in my heart!!!

"Why doesn't his guitar have the tuning things on it?" It's just a different style of electric guitar. The tuning heads are actually at the other end of the strings.

Nice to see the younger generation being open to experiencing older jams. By the way, I'm 60 years old. "Over-The-Air" music is severely limited to less than 4:00 minutes due to commercialization. You had to go to a "Live" performance (i.e. concert) to hear the extended version of these great songs. I was in a band for 8 years in the early '70s. Eight minutes allows each member of the band to play a solo where the entire ensemble could really be appreciated. Did you know that "The Jacksons" used "Pick up the pieces" for their tv show theme song? Rob & Amber, thank you for your review and I wish you the best of things in life.

I agree with the person who said that the studio recorded version is infinitely better. One thing I might suggest to you guys is when you are going to react to a song that you're hearing the very first time, I think it's better to listen to the studio recording or official music video (provided it's available on RU-vid) rather than a live concert recording. Nothing beats the magic of live music, but I think to appreciate a song to its fullest when hearing it for the very first time, the best way by far to do that is to hear it as it was recorded in the studio with no noise distortion, no audio quality issues, etc. Just my suggestion.

I somewhat agree, there are some live performances out there that eclipse the recording, and should be heard in their best state (one example that comes to mind is "It Makes No Difference" by The Band from The Last Waltz), but for the most part, the studio version usually nails the vibe and intent of the song.

I agree, however there are some very special live performances that should not be missed. In such cases the requester should specify that. One other thing, Stevie Ray Vaughan always seems better live to me. Perhaps it's because he's such dynamic performer?

I've never suggested anything before but I think this is one you need to hear. I'm 62 and when I was in high school different types of students listened to different music. There was one album that EVERYONE had. "Frampton Comes Alive" and it was because of the song "Do You Feel Like I Do". Find a live version and enjoy!!

You guys are quickly becoming my go to reaction channel. Keep it up!! Been an AWB fan since the 70s. The funkiest track they ever cut was Cut The Cake. Great horns on this one as well. An infectious little guitar riff starts it off and they weren't shy about putting petal to the metal for the rest of way. If you choose this song, the studio version is the best. Luv y'all!!

Here is how they got their name - The band had played together before in Scotland, but had moved to London separately and met up by chance at a Traffic concert. They decided to jam together; a friend heard them and remarked: "This is too much for the average white man," which became adapted as the name of the band.

Thank God someone still understands what an instrumental is. I see SO many reaction channels where they say, 'I love the instrumentals' when it's a song that still has vocals on it. They just mean they like the 'instruments' used, or the arrangement of the backing tracks. If you're talking about the instrumental breaks where there might be a solo or some such it would make a bit more sense, but if a song's got someone singing on it then it's not an instrumental. I'd still describe 'Pick up the pieces' though as an instrumental, as the short vocal parts are just shouted with no melodic element, as in a Big Band style.

Hamish Stuart (the guitarist in the kilt) is playing a Steinberger, a mini-sized guitar popular in the '80s. The tuning heads are located at the bottom of the guitar.

I've never seen them perform that song, until you uploaded this vid. I've loved this song since it came out and I, too, was surprised by their lack of melanin.....but it just goes to show what musicians really are: people who fall in love with particular kinds of music and, after a lot of hard work, bring it to the world. Their whole music catalogue is off the chain...their singing voices are amazing as well! If you didn't know, 'Pick up the Pieces,' music can be whole, half, quarter notes...the horn section was playing these types of notes and picking up the pieces precisely...

I saw AWB in 2019 at Jazz Alley in Seattle, they brought the house down. They were my favorite band in my early 20's dancing in the clubs. Check out "Work To Do", "A Love of Your Own", "If I Ever Lose This Heaven", "I Just Can't Give You Up", "Just Wanna Love You Tonight", and "Keepin' It To Myself".

This is such an awesome song & with that beat, you couldn't sit there without movin' your feet ! When we were on the dance floor & then this song was played, a lot of folks back then headed for their seats because it is a pretty long song. We, of the hard core lot, stayed thru it to the end. By then, it looked like we stepped out of the shower. That did more than just work up a sweat. We were all ready for a wringer washer by then. One of my items on my bucket list was to go dancing & have everyone stop, circle around & watch me & my dance partner, on the floor by ourselves. It was a great feeling because a few years before, I couldn't dance at all. There was just one couple that seemed a bit off over it. The guys wife said she liked our dancing, but thought we danced a bit too provocatively. I chuckled & looked at my partner & she just smiled & said, "I guess we did it like we wanted to then!" The lady didn't know what to say.

@@jalawoods1192 It came out in 1974. I was managing a store where we sold clothes & shoes for guys & girls, waterbeds, records & tapes & we had a head shop in it too ! After work, we'd go & party at the Luv Pub in the Brown Derby. Whenever an AWB song came on, everybody hit the dance floor. It was a good time to be in my 20's, single, nice car, good money. Now, in my 70's, my party is taking a nap !

This band is amazing -- funk, soul, R&B they played it all. The horns were/are amazing as always, but they actually do sing! A one-of-a-kind funky falsetto you will hear on many of the other AWB tracks. Be sure to listen to more.

Seen these guys in concert many times and listen to their albums too many times to even count and yet...I am 66 and STILL get chills listening to them on your channel!! In those days TOWER OF POWER and AWB were the FUNKYEST and are still TOURING in 2023...DANG!!🎷📯😻
