The anime never explained the wings but the manga did. Basically the skypians and shandians are descendants from people from the moon who came down to earth but separated to different area

in the manga cover story: The three groups. The Shandians, Skypieans, and Birkans originally lived on the moon. When they started to run out of natural resources they departed to this planet. Two of the groups settling in the clouds, and the other on the blue sea.

i saw enel on the moon defeating space pirates, and then commanding an army of robot chopper race with fake mustache to cover it's nose. i assume its blue like chopper. and chopper was never a reindeer, his species is still unknown to us, maybe its a racoon species 😂🤣

Skipping skypiea is a crime. Noland and kalgara's love(friend) story is the best, not just because of the friendship but the tragedy of it. Even in their last moments (execution and in war) they thought of eachother 😭 caught up and all, but for me the Noland and kalgara story is one of oda's best written backstory because it isn't that normal romantic love or parental love but 2 grown adults who found friendship with eachother

Why have Shadorians wings? Quote: "The Shandia were once called the Shandorians. They lived on the moon along with the fellow moon races, the Birkans and Skypieans. The three races had also built a robotic race called the automata. However, when resources on the moon wore out, the three races had to leave the automata behind as they headed for Earth. While the Birkans and Skypieans settled in the Sky Islands, the Shandorians made it as far as the Blue Sea. They settled on the island of Jaya."

This is one of my favorite backstories in one piece, and the build up to it was incredible. On my first watch I never thought that noland the liar’s story would become so relevant later. Oda is a genius storyteller!

There's a line during the flashback to the effect of "You're the first guests we've had since Shandora fell 400 years ago!" I've missed this line the first few times I watched this but it actually does so much heavy lifting in terms of world building. First it confirms that yes the Shandorans are also from the sky island. Second, given the flashback takes place 400 years prior to the present day, that means Shandora fell from the sky 800 years ago... i.e. around the end of the void century.

Calgara and Noland becoming homies was such an awesome watch. It's also really cool to see it come full circle from first meeting Cricket in his half castle, to the discovery of the ancient city and sacrificial altar, to the bellfry being Eneru's goal. Also, Noland's name is litteraly No Land, as in, no Shandara for him where he found it.

Non-spoiler: The King was greedy and was afraid that Noland's men would take any gold, so the the voyage was only held by the King's men who had no experience of navigation. When they entered the Grand Line, the King suffered and blamed it all on Noland. When the King found that that there was no gold, he was particularly mad that he had suffered all for nothing, and that he was being trolled by Noland.

The Shandians aren't the ones who demand sacrifices in present day, it's Enel and his priests. In the present day Skypeia, the sacrifice is just anybody, it doesn't matter who. It's not the same ritual. ------------- The wings are another weird story. Other people have mentioned it. In a cover story we find out that all of these people are originally from the Moon. How long ago we don't know, but they were originally from the Moon. And that's never mentioned in the anime.

@@TheWoudjezo idk about the size, but i believe they showed that the snake's scales are so tough that zoro couldnt hurt it at all. So unless staying in the sky made the snake's scales evolve or something, i assume they are the same hardness. Noland also took down a sea king by himself underwater while zoro struggled against a skyshark.

This is something u only learn in manga but since u already caught up to skypiea arc its no longer a spoiler , The Shandia were once called the Shandorians. They lived on the moon along with the fellow moon races, the Birkans and Skypieans. The three races had also built a robotic race called the automata. However, when resources on the moon wore out, the three races had to leave the automata behind as they headed for Earth , 2 of the races landed on the sky island and the other on blue sea , Here you go Nakama !

The Shandorian's are a ancient civilisation that being neutral and secluded for over 400 years before Noland. It's people were ignorant to the events of their modern neighbours advances. Relying on only their Commandments for guidance and hope in times of crisis. A classic case of desperation with lack of knowledge.

Why does Shandian have wings? I believe this is related to the Blank Century, the story from 800 years ago before Noland's time. Their race is believed to be entrusted with guarding the Poneglyph.

It is cool to see you both wondering about why this and that. About Skypea not be the "best" arc, this depends on each one plot taste. THere are arcs more misterious, or more funny, or with more fights, etc... To me considering the "untill now" 12 arcs, Skypea is my third favourite (Alabasta, the fifth, and East Blue the nineth).
