Wow, was very surprised Iain won this, as he was much weaker than both Melanie and Jan throughout, and his questions in the head-to-head were also harder than Melanie's (although his sudden death question was easier)... Melanie clearly voted tactically in the last 3, as Jan was actually slightly stronger than her overall (although there was very little in it), so on balance I think Jan probably deserved to win based on performance throughout the game - however, Melanie learned from this experience, as she was brilliant when she returned in the runner's-up special a few months later, and stormed to an easy win after a commanding performance... Very good episode, this one!
I was very surprised she lost to Iain in the final here TBH, as she was much stronger than him throughout the game - I think she did vote tactically when she got rid of Jan, who was (very narrowly) the strongest player throughout the 7 elimination rounds... She seemed to suffer a dramatic loss of form in round 8, though, and Iain's questions in the head-to-head were harder than hers (although his sudden death question was easier than hers)... She definitely made up for it in her reappearance a few months later though
