Great vid, in my local meta we found the hardest match up for Monkies is SP/aleph. While you do have one of the best tools to just delete phoenix, an Ageama ML is very hard to counter for MAF and is extremely devastating if it lands, while on the flip side, due to eclipse being on a lot of pieces, when it comes to active, they can just run up and delete you, so much so both our CA players just say aleph is busted good and hates playing the match up.
In my opinion the greatest weakness of morats is that their units are almost all at the mid-range of points: their basic line troop costs four points more than most equivalent units, for skills which are usually of little benefit to them, while the faction lacks truly elite options. They are also heavily reliant on fireteams, even more than most sectorials, and that inherently comes with its own risks. Their signature skill, everything being Veteran, is a very expensive solution to lieutenant problems. Although it IS phenomenal on their otherwise relatively generic heavy infantry and TAGs. As a primarily PanO player, my usual method of dealing with morats is the same as most other factions: just shoot them. Their one unusual scary capability is having a diverse-yet-coherent core with lots of orders, and if they're using it actively I tend to be able to find ways to pick off a team member. After which I just shoot them like anything else. I'm not trying to say that morats don't have nice things, but I don't see them as being in any way unfair (except maybe the dartok having a pitcher, grumble grumble).
@the_infinitygamer Ikadrons and flash-bots are great, but you're starting to care about protecting your lieutenant again. And when I'm playing Combined (not that I've played morats), I find my cheerleaders not having rifles to be an unexpected faction weakness. I'm not convinced hungry teams are very good. They're cheap, certainly, but other than acting as an order battery what do they do? The wildcard options to add a good gun to them are limited to a redfury/mk12, and at that point the team's no longer so cheap.
The hungries don’t do much until they do a lot. They’re a very cheap order battery for most of the game but once the ARO pieces are removed they use smoke to advance into the enemy line and can be quite devastating 😃
The oznats making the hungriest fire team regular definitely helped with how Morats tend to lean a little expensive because of veteran. The cheapest haris of them runs comparable price to your R drone + 2 ikadrons. Hungries haris also can get a lot of work done when applied correctly, oznats smoke can do great for applying the hungries, and if they make it to melee a gaki does pretty good in cc, however for heavy cc enemies you'll need to lean on the burst bonus from getting the whole fireteam into CC. Outside of R drone, ikadrons, and hungry fireteams Morats really suffer from high points cost. Even the hungries tend to feel like they justify their points cost when compared to taighas that shasvastii and vanilla combined army get access to.
@HibikoDaishi really good points here. I definitely feel the gaki/Oxnard hairs plus an Ikadron or two gives enough cheap orders to compensate for everything else. Factions like MO simply don’t have the cheap orders available. Ikadrons really aren’t bad either.
My experience with them leads to a couple weaknesses. 1) great Bs on only two models makes the numbers more of a grind than other factions even when active turn shooting. 2) Some of your good options are limited on Burst to 3 (Suryat HRL, Kaitok FB) and that May just not punch through an ARO. 3) lack of visual modifiers on gunfighters reduces again the punch through power by winning fewer shootouts with more high powered shots.
@@the_infinitygamer Very well actually, I went first and squeeze 2 Dog Warriors, a strelok and Beasthunter into the armoury. Managed to dominate round 1, he dominated in round 2, but I used a Spetsnaz HMG and Dynamo AP Spitfire to fire into and clear the armoury, and dominate round 3. Final 7-2.
Your video is on point. As a main PanO I hate playing against Morats, because PanO has none of the counters you mention, and CB credo of "PanO shoots better" isn't true. Taking down a well placed linked HRL Suryat is almost impossible with PanO due to its AP immunity, MSV, very high BS while in a pure core, Hacking resistance that is above PanO mediocre hacking capabilities, impossible for PanO to block its LOF due to lack of white noise and eclipse, and lack of good PanO warbands. So PanO "superior shooting capabilities" get really down to nothing against that specific unit. Anyway... Now, is it impossible to win against MAF as PanO? No its not. Here are my golden rules when playing agaisnt them with PanO. - roadblocks: MAF can alpha strike you like theres no tomorrow. Put as many fwd dep/infiltration minelayers, Hellots, or peacemakers as possible. - as long as MAF has a pure core, do not leave any unit in the open field. Even a pure linked Sniper Bolt will get smashed, because (rolls eyes), MAF shoots better than PanO. - spread out. Spread out as much as possible. If Suryat blocks your mobility too much, you're in troubles. - if you have any chance of killing one unit of the MAF core, take it. As soon as they're back to 4 members, their value sinks like a rock, and your superior BS will materialize in both Active and Reactive turn. When the core is down, you can start leaving your excellent ARO pieces (Kamau/Nisse/Bolt sniper rifles, Kahru) in the open. But don't count on that too much as a good MAF player will never give you this chance. - avoid CC, PanO can't match Daturazys - high burst. MAF super high PH will laugh at template weapons. - more than against any other faction, play the objectives. If you need to suicide to push a button, do it.
How's MAFs shooting better than a pure linked Bolt? Sure, you're on B2 vs their B4, but that's always the case. And even against a pure linked Yaogat shooting through smoke, your pure linked MSV1 Bolt MSR is still on 19s vs his 15s, because your Sixth Sense ignores the -6 penalty in ARO. I'm not saying MAF doesn't have other tools to kill that Bolt, I'm just saying it doesn't shoot better.
