Just wanted to say "thanks" I was given a copied cd of Dave Ramsey 29 years ago. I was just a dumb kid from rural Canada. Followed Dave's advice Still have an emergency account with $1,000.00 in it .... never giving that up. I also have multiple homes, no debt and several million squirrelled away. Thanks Dave. Literally changed my life,
My parents said "don't worry about it" when they signed a $10,000 PPL for me. Took me 5yr to pay it off (as part of my debt snowball) and man, let me tell you: when I made the final payment just before Thanksgiving, it was a totally different family gathering after that 🙌
I just got out of the military and joining was the best thing I ever did. It goes by fast and you can get training and skills to get a good job after. Free college, healthcare benefits. I would recommend it
John, no parents need a van as soon as they have a baby - they don't take up much room. However, why is it MY savings if you are married? And WHY are you letting your wife continue to make payments on "her" car when you have FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND dollars in savings? What a tightwad. Be careful - she is going to leave you if you continue to be such a miser. Thankfully you called in to get your head screwed on straight about money you won't even miss for something that is used EVERY day. You're like so many husbands who cheap out on a good vacuum cleaner for the wife which is used every day but spend hundreds on a tool they use once every three years. Time to actually ACT married!
Is it common that the caller just gets cut off? I usually watch Caleb Hammer's Financial Audit so i'm used the them going over more details, but start watching the Ramsey Show and it just seems a bit rude.
The caller who thought about the military….imo everyone needs to get out of their hometown! Especially someone in his predicament. “I don’t want to kill someone” is not common in the military considering 85 percent of the jobs are not combat or direct combat positions.
I do NOT agree that every young person should serve their country for a year. I'm grateful that some choose to, but I am also grateful that we all have choice.
There were plenty of good instate schools that offered my daughter's major. She wanted to go out of state. We said no, go instate. She was able to graduate debt free with no loans to pay back.
Love the show. I wish Dave and Rachel would have Sharron as a guest on the show though. It would be very entertaining to listen to the woman that stood by Dave during the early years of real estate then starting the new business on a coffee table in their house.
DO NOT CROSS THAT PICKET LINE! Unless you want to retire early and be blackballed for the remaining part of your career. Everyone in the aerospace industry is watching and holding their breath for the results. Get what you deserve!
It does not surprise me that Dave Ramsey would be ant-union, but Jade and Ken suggesting this man become a scab surprised me. It really shows their lack of knowledge about what protections Unions provide for workers in manufacturing and construction.
Unions are worthless. Look at the longshoreman, the dude in charge makes $700k to be a mobster and threaten our entire country to have "his men" be way overpaid with starting salaries being almost $90k + 6 weeks pto
I have worked for two different unions, I will take a 50% pay cut to avoid them. I would take immense pride in being a scab if my family situation allowed me to travel.
I wish I would’ve joined the Air Force. I would’ve probably done 20 years. But I joined the army because my father was in the army. I served almost 10 years and then got out. Now, looking at the current climate in the military, I am glad I am no longer in the service today. .
Ken just casually suggesting a man give up his 28-year union job (that apparently allowed his wife not to work outside the home in the Seattle area) and to give up his whole community just to move to Louisiana for the hope of a job. Isn’t this the point of an emergency fund?
This guy obviously didn't have an emergency fund in place and waited until he was desperate to find addtional income. He made a choice, for the last 28 years, not to be ready for a strike and now they want him to sell his soul to the Devil. Terrible ending to the show.
My father mentioned to all the kids are three of us Don’t ever ask me to cosign anything ! I will not cosign for anyone of you ! I will head over help you as much as I can with cash But I remember getting my first car back then you didn’t have to put your kids on your insurance Insurance guy came to your house, and he mentioned make sure you get her on her own insurance! So I had my own car insurance as well because like the insurance guy said if she gets in an accident where she has to go they can’t come back and pick your house.
I lost a lot of respect for Ken today. Its more to do with lack of understanding what being a Machinist Union member at Boeing means. Those jobs are golden. Its very hard to get into that gig. It also pays six figures. He was advising to cross the line. Then after that he told the guy to move and find another job. What!? So easy to give that advice from behind the microphone. The union and Boeing always resolve their disputes. They say it will be over next week. The lack of understanding of that caller's situation was unreal.
Not only was the advice bad ethically, it was just bad advice overall. I agree about losing respect for Ken. I knew there was something I didn't like about his smugness, but I never thought they would suggest a union man cross a picket line.
Agree with you, of course kins in the comfort of his chair Ken is in the comfort of his chair of course dude he’s gonna give out advice nice and freely and nonchalant is not him his self on the line right on
to David in W Palm Beach, FL --- There are Jobs in the Military that do NOT ever require you to go overseas to kill someone. You can be a corpsman (Military nurse) in the Navy, They also have the Seabees (Yes they are trained to defend themselves/Fight but their primary focus is on building infrastructure.) IF you are needing to gain some skills to get started in life, this is a viable option but know that you are trading 4-5 years of your life for the training.
@shellisano returning fire alongside Marines...um yes it can mean exactly that. But go ahead and lecture a Marine that served 2 combat tours alongside half a dozen or so Corpsman like you know better. 😂
The question about what would happen if someone crossed the picket line would mean that worker is a scab. I can't think of a worse insult. There is always another option and suggesting someone cross a picket line for any reason is never acceptable.
Matthew call - PARENTS take out Parent Plus loans. It does not matter what a verbal agreement was. If a parent does not want to take out the loan, then the parent should not do it. And NO parent should do it - parent plus loans are the WORST. A student who needs a parent plus loan should go to a less expensive college or find other financial means to pay for college. A student does NOT sign a parent plus loan, so since Matthew said they BOTH signed the loan, it was not a parent plus loan. They signed a different kind of loan where the mother and son were both co-signers. And parents, STUDENT LOANS ARE NOT DISCHARGEABLE, EVEN IN BANKRUPCY. YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT WILL EVEN BE GARNISHED FOR UNPAID STUDENT LOANS, INCLUDING PARENT PLUS LOANS. Don't do it! Not sure why Jade is talking about the worry of affecting the credit score when the RS people always say no one needs a credit score???
Agree. If more students and parents were more aware of what they're getting into, the student loan industry would drop drastically within a year. If you have to take out loans, you can't afford that school. But they don't want to listen. They feel entitled to the best schools, "pretty town," party life, and the schools their friends attend.
How can a working couple with one child work a side hustle when they work opposite schedules? The child is in child care for 3 hours a day to save money. Thanks!
David, I agree you need to change your zip code and leave your hometown(go out of state if you can), but you don't need to go overseas. Ken and Jade gave you bad advice about the military and going overseas. Many people are leaving FL and heading to TX, GA, NC, OR, and SC because that is where the money is. Check your options first since you're 19; the military will prey on you because you're young and lost. Check Warehouse jobs( Amazon is hiring) and Moss(Solar company.) I was in your shoes; you must be fed up with your situation to change. Pray to God for instruction and structure in your life. Although you are not close with your immediate family, ask them if they know an uncle, auntie, or cousin who is stable, healthy-minded, lives in or out of state, and can help you get on your feet. You can stay with them or rent a place (studio, basement, a room) from them. "Stay single, stack your money, and focus on yourself. Things will get better." This is the motto I'm striving to live every day. God bless you.
The guy they told to travel the world and help people....pretty sure you need bank for that stuff, people without the cash take what they get from the military
Good lord Some of those “bad investment” duplexes are almost doubling their expenses And Ken says they’re bad investments? I’m sorry, but he’s a moron He mentioned “imagine you sell everything and have four houses left” Why? NINE don’t have a mortgage? Is he even listening?
The phrase means what you know as "facts" but it is contrasted with "real life" experience. And no, both are not necessarily the same. Someone could just say knowledge b/c "head knowledge" is a redundancy.
Ken is horrible. As soon as i hear him on i need to skip. Listened to the first 15mns and that was enough. Dave read the comments, people don’t like him.
Came here to say the same thing. He consistently gives the worst advice about career choices. An example-after Jade answered the caller’s question, he insinuated himself into the call and told a firefighter to get a second job when the wife already said he needs that time to do household responsibilities. And he implied those were hobbies. He has no idea how the real world works.
Prior to this episode, watching Ken was like eating vegetables. You just held your breath and swallowed. Today I finally spit him out and into the napkin. He always comes off as the smartest guy in the room, just ask him if that ain't true. Today, after hearing his advice to become a union scab, I'll just skip episodes when he is at the desk. Hate to sound mean but dude is wasting a useful office chair not to mention the microphone.
That is terrible advice for telling a 19-year-old young man to go overseas, especially alone. This is how they end up missing, homeless, and, worst, dead.
I think that's the worst advice that Jade and Ken have ever given to a person with regard to the guy who works for boeing. He's 53 years old he's worked there for 28 years they want him to walk away from a potential pension and his retirement and all. I would say hold out because eventually Boeing and any other company are going to negotiate because they need their workers back they can't have management doing the operational work also.
Ken let his knee-jerk dislike of unions overcome the reality and common sense of the situation. A 53-year-old man should give up his union job and possible pension and move to Louisiana for a new "adventure." And to make it sound like the guy has no options just because Ken doesn't like the real option for the guy to NOT SCAB is repugnant. The guy said he had the money for four months and isn't the team always telling callers to get ANY job to get by in the short term? The guy can go to McDonald's for a few months if needed. Ken's advice was unethical and dishonest. He's smug and self-important and has never been my favorite but after today I just won't listen when he's on. What a selfish person.
He's white collar as they all are. How could you expect anything else? Sure getting your hands dirty with a side hustle; but common he had a career show
