Weapon Light Discussion: Momentary Or Constant-On? 

If I have to choose one or the other I prefer constant, because I can turn it on and off like a momentary but when I want it to stay on I don't have to hold the button. However, I prefer having both so I can use what I need as necessary.

I use momentary because I mainly focus on home defense. It’s far more likely that I have to clear my house than assault an unknown building.

Options… options… options… always good to have options/enablers to facilitate mission success. There’s no one size fits all. Personally, I prefer constant/strobing for pistols (allowing two-handed grip, multitasking etc.) with the ease of turning off as needed like the Streamlight TLR1-HL and momentary/stoning for rifles/carbines - I run your Rein 3.0. I’ll throw in some controversy - I love the strobe feature! During a break in military service, I did what many brother combat Grunts did and became a LEO. There, I truly learned how disorienting and irritating stobes can be (for oppositions) especially with high lumen/candela sources. Make strobes great again, lol.

Great video! I understand the situation can dictate how/when to use white light and that is one of the reasons I chose Cloud products due to the easy to use pressure pad and tail switch. I like the redundancy in the pressure pad and tail switch, both offering momentary and constant.

While professionally larping around my house I found it depends on the feel of the switch. With a unity switch I like how it feels as a momentary and if needed I'll reach up by the light body and click the constant. While with a cloud switch I prefer to use it as a constant just due to the way the momentary switch feels. If two switches feel the same I'll use the momentary function more than the constant. I have no professional experience, it just comes down to how the switch feels when I press on it.

I’m a fan of the constant on. I like the half press to turn the light off when needed and a half press when the light is off and I anticipate needing light. Then all I have to do is release and whammy it’s like LIGHTNING! Zach, if you want to see better one of the things you might consider is standing on a box. A little bit of elevation might help. 😂

Every situation is different, one thing I noticed is when the guy who was using momentary opened doors, there was always a split second of no light/identification ability into the dark room. Maybe giving the bad guy the extra second to shoot and identify HIM. Sometimes he would almost enter the room before the light was turned on. Just something I noticed I am not a professional by any means. Constant on seems to be the way to go but I’ll keep training and listening to these guys. This information is incredible! I personally like constant on because I’ve always felt that the momentary gives me temporary night blindness where there’s anywhere from 4 to 6 seconds where I can’t see anything, because my eyes adjusted to the white light

Inside a structure with modern lights you almost have to run with it on because switching on/off definitely limits visibility

Thoughts/ opinions on using a spotlighting technique? Doing small flashes throughout the area your looking/ going to give you snap shots of the area?

Constant, just click on and click off, for handgun simply due to support hand being so high.

I prefer constant on. I’m only concerned with self/home defense. I do not go looking for bad guys in unknown locations. With that in mind, there is almost certainly enough ambient light to see me coming anyway and so I’d rather project as much light as possible. I live on small acreage and the interior of my home is sufficiently illuminated at night for navigational purposes. A home invader will be able to see me coming, so I’d prefer to project as much light as possible. Should a disturbance occur outside, the immediate surroundings are illuminated from the house. No way in hell I’m tracing across my rural property alone looking for a suspected bad guy, no matter my illumination technique.

Do u guys have a 3.0 pressure pad in the works? I trained to use yours on my gas tube on an ak, wasn’t to hard to get my thumb in the right spot every time but made does it stretch my hand out, I realize that part of this issue is it’s an ak so the hand guard is thicker but a more flat pad like the stream light was a lot more comfortable although no we’re near as comfortable or good for cable management like yours, and will u make a mlok housing for your pads ? Ik you hate hearing it probably but pistol lights!?!?!?!? I’m tired of everyone on the market only good ones are to damn big for CC , thank you
