"Whether I'm wearing a baggy t shirt or a bodycon dress, my body is still the SAME body..." that really hit home for me! I agree, we should wear what we like no matter if it's "flattering" or not

I had this cropped sweater that I wanted to wear for Christmas because it's so cute, but I felt like it showed off my belly too much. But then I thought to myself, it's not like if I wear something looser my family is suddenly going to think I lost a lot of weight. And I'll tell you, that sweater looks super cute in our Christmas pictures!

Same. I think a lot of the time I personally have such a hard time dressing myself because the clothing isn’t “flattering” but I just now realized it because my body is in a state of fluctuations and right now it’s bigger than it has been. But that doesn’t mean I can’t dress cute or wear what I like. It’s something I got to work on getting more comfortable with.

@@skyegrube7667 i used to think that as well but i think of it like bra sizes… they are so different in fit and style across different brands so it makes sense for the other clothes to be the same… it really helps if i think like that like each brand has a designated size for me and that they are different cause of how the individual companies made them

There is one fashion "don't" we should all obey to: only wear the clothes that fit you. There is no shame, no defeat in buying a new jeans in a bigger size. For years I squeezed into stuff with the mindset of "I'll loose that few pounds and then they'll fit" and felt miserable the whole time! To whoever needs to hear this: You deserve to dress in clothes that let you breath and move properly! You didn't "fail" by sizing up (or down, it works both ways obv). You're very much allowed to feel comfortable in every piece you wear

Clothes are made to fit YOU, not the other way around. It was a hard to learn lesson for me. During my whole life I would wear wathever fitted me, because I either didn't find anything in my size, or I just would accept anything just because it fitted.

Hmm I don't necessarily agree. I think flattering can also depend on proportions and just visual lines in general. I'm really short for example and trendy oversized clothing tends to drown me. I don't look bad in it but it's definetly not the best proportion for my body. I get your point though.

Flattering just means pleasing and gratifying, or enhancing your appearance. I’m tall with broad shoulders, large on top, small on bottom clothing doesn’t flatter my shape. Not about thinness.

For me flattering just means flattering; I love how I look naked but sometimes I wear things that make my body look bad because they make me look like something I'm not e.g. something that makes my hips look straight when they're not - I deem those clothes unflattering

Flattering does not mean making yourself look skinny. Flattering is subjective. If you think you look good in something is what matters. Other ppl may not think so. Just like personal taste. What my mother thinks looks flattering on me I think makes me look 10yr are older than I am.

As a curvy girl, I think u should keep the videos up. We all start somewhere & being able to dress in a way that was flattering my body is what made me begin to start feeling comfortable in my body & eventually led me to venture out of my comfort zone. Maybe you’ve grown out of that mindset, but some people out there are still there may need the boost of confidence that dressing that way could give them. Some see it as a toxic way of thinking, personally, I think it’s baby steps towards feeling confident in our curvy/bigger bodies.

@@Tazzie1312 I get that, I totally do. But I also think it’s not always so black and white. This is just from my personal experience, some may agree, some may not. I think her addressing it for being a toxic ideology is great, but I’m also not against leaving the videos up.
@cc1526
@cc1526 2 года назад
@@Tazzie1312 but Sierra wasn’t “telling” us to do anything. The “wear this not that” was a clickbate title and she always said that if we disagree with her tips that we absolutely do not have to take her advice. She was sharing her tips on how to dress. You didn’t have to take her advice, but it was nice to have it if you did want it. That’s why there’s an x button. You can click off if you don’t like it or you find it “toxic” (way too strong of a word to describe a outfit RU-vid video if you ask me) but now that it’s deleted, we can’t see it anymore. That was all OP was saying. We just wish she had kept it up because it personally helped us gain more confidence.

California and Florida mostly. In those areas, it tends to be cool in the morning and evening and hot in the daytime. I’m assuming Sierra is like me and she tends to get cold on her arms before her legs. You can take a jacket on and off really easily, but changing from pants to shorts isn’t so simple. So when it’s in the high 60s in the morning, you throw on the jacket, when the sun comes up, you take the jacket off, and then when night rolls around, you can throw the jacket back on. It never gets cold enough to need pants, but the wind chill on your arms can kick up. Lol hopefully that makes sense.

Lol as a Californian (southern California to be precise) it just makes sense here as street wear. Also sometimes it's not cold enough to cover up entirely with pants but there can be cold wind that a jacket may be needed. Also, I personally often get cold on my upper body but not my legs. I've been waiting forever for people to be ready to talk about the inherent fatphobia in the body positivity movement and the exclusion of "not-curvy" fat people. For a long time the conversation was "I'm not fat, I'm curvy" - which for one, makes you wonder "well then who's fat and why are you afraid to be fat"; and for two, moves the point to a really uncomfortable spot of "being fat is a bad thing". No, fat is an adjective. it really feels like saying "wow I'm tall, that's a bad thing".

Youre right! I think "fat" sounds rude. But in fact its no different than "tall", "small" etc. Crazy how one word is the synonym die "unhealthy", "lazy", "not beautiful". I mean, the first one might bei true, but the others are just assumptions which are educated in our brains for a long time.

This brings tears to my eyes Sierra, because it's so thoughtful and so needed. Thank you for adding this video to your journey and for being open to having a conversation that doesn't condemn your growth, but recognizes it's impact. I'm grateful for the sense of body acceptance that this video emulates, and I think it provides some much needed joy and love to bodies that have been historically criticized and demonized.❣️

I haven't been watching your videos for a long time, only about a year or two, and I've even noticed in that timeframe how much more positively you talk about and view your body and it's amazing. You've helped me to be more confident in my body, and I now wear things that I never would have even considered a couple years ago, and love wearing them! Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us ❤️

I've been there since near the beginning of your channel. I've been growing in my body confidence personally and you sharing your journey has helped me a lot. I've gained a fair amount of weight since the pandemic and you've reminded me to love my body in any size. You're the reason I started wearing high waisted jeans and not be self conscious about them hugging my stomach!! We all have stomachs! You and Carrie Day tons channels have been awesome for me. Keep doing you, Sierra 💕

I love this video for showing the mindset growth but it's also really fun to see how your style has changed! I've been on this same journey with you because I remember finding your channel and feeling so good and seen because I felt like I was a curvy girl as well and I hadn't seen many bodies like mine on social media. Your content back then helped me start to feel more confident in my body and love it more. But I also understand and agree now that we should get to wear anything we like, it doesn't have to look "flattering". Looking smaller doesn't have to be the goal, we are equally valuable in any clothes and at any size. Thank you for what you do here💖

I began following your channel in early 2017 because I hadn't seen many bodies that looked like mine and your clothing hauls really gave me an idea of how clothes would fit on my body. Now, 5 years later, I am so thankful you made this video because I think many of us don't realize how much our bodies change and how our relationship with clothes is intertwined with how we view ourselves. I love how confident you have become and how open you've been to accept yourself at every size 🖤

Watching this video made me really tear up. I've been watching your videos for years and it is amazing to see your progress towards self love. It hits close to home as I remember watching your old videos mentioned in this video and videos like them trying to make my outfits as "flattering" as possible. I'm so happy that you have been open about this topic because it shows how much happier you are, which is so heart-warming, but also makes people who have ever struggled with body image issues feel like we're not alone. Love this so much Sierra! 1. I refuse to believe 2016 was 6 years ago lol 2. As someone who is 27, I look back at old pictures of myself in 2016 and I can remember thinking the same way of not wanting to wear something that didn't "flatter" me. I'm so much more confident in my body and appearance now even though it has changed a lot over the years. Still sometimes a struggle when I try something on that doesn't look like it used to look on me when I was a size 6, but my I'm not defined by my body size. Thank you for this video!

I actually appreciate videos that help flatter my body shape. I totally agree to wear whatever you want, but for me I just don’t feel good in clothes that make me look bigger or frumpy. I am all about wearing whatever makes me feel good and look good. I don’t really seeing that as shaming but highlighting the things I feel confident about.

My mother needs to see this video, every time I try to go out wearing an outfit thats not necessarily as flattering on my body type as it could possibly be, whether that be bodycon on the lower part of my body, or baggy / bulky all over, she forbids me from leaving the house in that outfit and just straight up insults me by telling me I look "frumpy" or "like a tent" :(

Wow! Good for you Sierra!! It takes a lot to admit to yourself, let alone your entire audience that you have grown and changed your mindset for the better. Not many people can do this and I think it’s extremely important that not only you admitted that your younger self was naïve but you made an entire video debunking your previous thoughts. This is fantastic to see and I’m really happy to be experiencing this growth alongside you! Thank you for doing this and wording it so well. I don’t really understand wearing something that is unflattering just to do it. I thought the point of fashion was to have style and wear what you are comfortable in that’s flattering for your body type. There are items that are unflattering on skinny women that look amazing on bigger women. Sierra actually helped me realize just how much style plays a part in how flattering you look. I guess it depends on what your definition of flattering is.
