Great video, I just received my full set for my 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. I already had the windshield, but wanted the rest and WeatherTech took care of just charging me for the difference for the additional shades. They ended up sending an entire new set. I did order the bag today and that will be here next week. I will be testing them out tomorrow when I go for a 20 mile cycle ride. I planned on putting the black on the outside as well for the other than windshield windows. This video was great. I am all about keeping peering eyes from looking in. I have been a weathertech customer for years with their mats absolutely LOVE THEM.
Nice 4Runner, and great product review. You convinced me to buy them for my Prius v camper conversion. It will make sleeping in the car so much better.
Thanks, just subbed to your channel. This is exactly what I was looking for with the black facing outside. I made some last time but it was a pain and took some time. This is turnkey ready to go. I also want to camp in the back of my 4Runner so this will help with stealth and keep it cool inside.
Looks good, thanks for doing the video! I just ordered a full set for my 2021 Telluride. The black side looks good facing out, but I'm guessing most people won't even notice, or if they do, they'll just think it's a wrinkly budget tint job. I've got a 6,200-mile drive coming up, so looking forward to trying these out. By the way, I live about an hour from you. If you haven't already - get your windshield tinted professionally, which helps HUGE keeping the heat and UV out. My buddy owns a pro tint company for 30 years (residential/commercial/vehicles), and tons of cops use him to tint the windshields on their personal vehicles. Sooooo, no you won't be ticketed, and it's not even close to being noticeable. ;) Oddly, night-time driving with the tint isn't any darker than without it, so no loss of perception. The tint makes the world more high definition, which is great, and there's now very little glare from headlights. Awesome.
Very cool Mark. You’re gonna like shades for your trip. I moved to the east coast of Florida Boynton Beach. The front windshield sounds interesting who and where is your friends business? 😎
They really are NMDA it’s bitch’n how they go in and how dark it is. I’m going camping today in west palm beach and will be sleeping in the 4R if it’s to warm I’ll idle the engine all night. Have done it many times used very little gas, can’t hear it running, and doesn’t hurt a thing. So air conditioning! And a nice little fort for Tim 😂Love this 4Runner it can do it all. 😎
Nice video.. I went to the fabric store and purchased a large piece of 100% sunblock material for curtains and cut it to fit the outside, with enough tail to pull inside the car so I can close the doors and keep it from blowing away
@@McGuinness89 dude thats exactly what i was hoping to hear! i like to car camp instead of buying hotel rooms so the stealthiness is crucial, thank you man!
@@vadimcastro332 yeah I'm willing to bet they are the best on the market. Might use them to trace out reflectix since they are expensive though and I'll have extras in the future
Doesn't facing the dark side out in FL make it hotter inside? I know it's more incognito, but I live in Clearwater; and want my cab as cool as possible. I also put on the smoked colored window louvers and crack my windows at night. No worries if it rains and it lowers the temp even more. If I was living in it, I'd for sure get the whole set, but for my purposes I just have the front screen. Keep up the cool videos!
Thank you for this thorough review. I've been debating buying them (they're very expensive in Canada), but my main concern was the ripple effect when you have the black side out. I noticed here that it can be seen a bit but not as bad as I thought it might be. Also, I saw somebody else do a video and they were really big gaps around the shields which concern me because my crummy existing DIY are like that. Maybe it just depends on the vehicle and the particular covers. I noticed that yours have very little light coming through..... I guess in a pinch I can always tweak them myself if necessary. WT should be giving you a commission on these, I'm sold on buying some now, on the strength of this video!
Yes I’ve never regretted buying them. First I was going to make my own search RU-vid up-and-down for the best way to do it. A lot of hassle. Just buy them you’ll forget about what you paid for them afterwards but you will never regret having those custom-made. It’s a great company that makes great products. Thanks for viewing my video. 😎
I’ll try it brick city’s but mine seem to fit pretty good all the way around. I mean I can’t see my hand in front of my face during the daylight hours lol 😎
I would buy those and then cover the black shiny side with a thick black felt fabric to make the shades undetectable, with no reflection whatsoever, for true stealth.
Great video, BTW the black side gives you privacy and in the winter helps keep ice from forming on the windshield by keeping it warmer. Don't think it's intended to warm the vehicle.
Was thinking of getting just the windshield shade for my 2018 Tundra but after seeing what a pain it is to put it in place, I think I'll go with the cheapo "one size fits all". The cheapo's may not shut out all light, but they also don't require spending 2 or 3 minutes putting them in place every time I want to use it. They would probably be great if you were going to leave them on for several hours or days. Thanks for showing me that they aren't for me.
BINGO Kao! That’s exactly how I felt. Even the last week knowing I was gonna order them I sat on the fence afraid to pull the trigger because I wanted the full kit and it’s pricey, but as you said I should have done this along time ago. I actually debated on making them a second time 😂 I watched another DIY video and thought I can do this hahaha I’m so cheap in some ways. But yeah Kao don’t give it a second thought just get ‘em 😎
These things are really cool during the day if I put them in all of my windows I can’t see my hand in front of my face. I hope to use them soon and do some traveling and some stealth camping. 😎
14:36 I think if like matte black duct tape or something was put on it would eliminate that rippled look and just look like super dark tint. Great product regardless.
No because there’s a built-in stretchy bungee that goes around them and they’re designed to be rolled up. You can always flip them around and put them in the other side for a short bit and they will be flat again but I’ve never had to do that. 😎
I've got some coming in tomorrow and Im so glad they fit snug. For the money they ought to though lol. I work but saving money so Im sleeping in my car. I sleep at a walmart lol and the lights bug me. Ive got black out curtains I hang up with push pins and getting tired of it. I will have to use the black side out because at night the headliflght reflection will blind someone since I dont have tinted windows.
@igorrosales1799 oh yeah minivan more windows. Mine was only $139. Yes and I put a blanket across the front window to keep even more light out. I don't know why but nobody can't get the windshield exactly right. I got a closet tension rod to run diagonally from corner to corner to keep it up snug.
@@claycarpenter8625 I’m still undecided, I was about to buy but just heard that for siennas there are big gaps in the windows. And yes everybody struggles with the windshield lol
You don’t have to put your foot on the brake to shut the car off by the way also just had my WeatherTech Window covers show up about an hour ago can’t wait to test them out tonight
I love the 4wd emblems. Don’t know why Toyota stopped using it on the 4Runner. I wouldn’t even mind them having 4wd on the mudguards like the Tacomas and 1-2 gen 4Runners did.
Agree LSanti love all my emblems hey did you see my video of the outside mirrors yeah they are awesome to have the blind spot mirrors. They are RAV4 mirrors lol Ordered right from Toyota. 😎
@@SarasotaTim yes I saw that video and loved it. I’m definitely going to do that thanks. Enjoy your camping. It’s great weather for it here in Florida.
@@CarnutMM Hey LSanti it’s 3 AM and I’m at my campsite enjoying homemade croissants and coffee with my friend who has this business baking croissants and cinnamon rolls. Then sells at Parkland farmers market every weekend. I will be videoing the whole area here that I refer to as Gilligans island over the next three days. 😎
Makes the $200 sound like chump change. It took me a month to pull the trigger on these and that was after trying the homemade kind first. It don’t get any better than these WT shade’s really. 😎
Looks like you are preparing for the Bird Box movie. BTW, I put a hood protector/bug shield on my 4runner today. Looks great. Surprised you dont have one with all your gadgets.
@@SarasotaTim I was afraid of that so I got the official Toyota bugshield at the dealer. I called and they had it the next day. Cost $130. Looks great cause the shield is similar to color as grey metallic Came with no instructions but thank goodness for youtube and several people giving step by step.
Ok, I thought you were going to be installing the window/rain guards that go on the outside of the windows that allow you to crack them open during a rainstorm. If a 4runner is relegated to being parked outside then these are really handy, as they block out all the sun. I guess they are handy for camping as well.
Sorry for the confusion yeah those window shades are right up my alley because I plan on camping and sleeping in the back possibly in residential areas when I’m traveling and just want to be completely incognito. 😎
You mentioned having tint, have you noticed these scratching it at all? I had absurdly expensive ceramic tint installed and discovered my homemade reflectix nonsense is scratching the crap out of the tint, and it also freezes to it in the winter. Curious if you’ve experienced anything similar. Thank you!
That’s terrible not at all. I clean it with rubbing alcohol and towels. In fact, I’ve never experienced what you’re saying on any of my cars. I have never purchased ceramic tent, however. Also, I have these custom-made WeatherTech window shades that aren’t affecting the tenant whatsoever. 😎
5 months later, how they holding up? I have an 04 excursion and I'm looking for something like this for camping. I know I can make some for cheap but the hassle. I don't even know if they have it for my truck being so old but knowing WeatherTech I'm sure they will be pricey. So I'd like to know it they will last.
Hey Julio, every dollar you don’t spend making those homemade kind his dollars you can put towards the real deal. Take it from me I went down that road and tried a couple of different ideas from RU-vid before pulling the trigger and getting these WeatherTech window shades. They keep perfect and they will last. Believe me you won’t regret it and you will forget what you paid after you get them. 😎
I can’t decide on a set or half a set of these or go for ceramic tinting for around $350 to $400. It would be for the 4 Runner, both options are expensive. What is your opinion?
Well you have to have your windows tinted first. The shades are for sleeping inside mostly except the front like when you put that up when going into work or whatever. The shade are invisible behind tinted windows so of course you want to get the tint job 1st. IMO. 😎
No Frank I do not. That doesn’t disappoint because I don’t use the second row either haha and I didn’t have to pay for it. 😎 Are you wanting that feature? Do you have children? Also I think building anything back there for overlanding or camping may be more difficult but I’m not sure. I was lucky to have gotten mine when I did and for it to have the sunroof too. 😎
The 4Runner has tinted windows already. The dark side of the window shade just makes them invisible behind my tinted windows. I’ve heard the myth about absorbing heat by facing them black side out and it’s not true. Living here on the surface of the sun and can attest to this. You see it’s a foil material that doesn’t absorb heat only blocks it’s. These aren’t cheap $200 but well worth it. Get yourself some. In my opinion, the black side is to create a surreptitious look for car camping in neighborhoods, or areas you want to just blend in, so it just looks like dark tinted windows. 😎
I thought the same thing and probably everybody else did as well. But once you pull the trigger and you have them and your money is gone, you won’t have any regrets you can’t see your hand in front of your face. 😎
Great video I'm sold tim! One question: are u SURE it's cool to do black side out and still keep out heat??? So many ppl have told me reflective side out makes huge difference in keeping heat out
I’m sure. I just put them up the other day here in Florida words 1000°. I had the black side facing out. My girlfriend and I were inside my forerunner parked at Walmart and it was so dark in there we could barely see. I let my engine idle while we sat and talk and just wanted to be private. In fact the front one will only go in reflected side out because of the cut out configuration of the review mirror and anti-collision camera. The other pieces can be simply reversed to fit the other sides of the vehicle so you can use them black or reflective. I always use black because behind my window tinting you can’t see them and that is for the purpose of stealth camping. I think the idea of drawing heat from the black side is a myth. 😎
Great video, Tim. I watched WeatherTech's video on this product, and the black is for the winter as black absorbs heat so it keeps the windows warmer and less frosty.
@@cowboybuddhaful yeah I know but that’s just a gimmick. The black facing out is what I do for stealth camping. I live a mile from the sun here in Boynton bch Florida and it doesn’t make a difference especially if your windows are tinted. Now if you don’t have any window tinting on your vehicle and you put the black side out I’m sure they would suck a little heat through to help with defrosting. Maybe. Again the black side is reserved for being more stealthy and doesn’t really help if you don’t have tinted windows you would be able to see them. I demonstrate how they’re unnoticeable behind my tinted windows. 😎 Either way… Get them! 😂
@@SarasotaTimyeah when you think about it, if you have tinted windows then that blocks a good bit already then it passes through the glass and the material inside the sunshades. Makes sense to not make that much of a difference.
I didnt like that shine of the black side so I went to a fabric store and bought some black cotton fabric and had it sew over it to cover now no one can see them at all.
I could be wrong but I doubt an overlander would get 2 years of use out of this. I made my own out of cardboard and have gotten a few years of use out of them.
@@SarasotaTim Do you think an Overlander and a city commuter will give these the same usage? Maybe one day if you Overland you'll understand the comment. Lmao 🤣
Well I don’t know if any product that insulates the interior of a vehicle by covering the windows. However, if you’re looking for privacy or to keep heat out, then these are the ticket. I love mine. Honestly, I don’t use that much but I have an every time I use them I’m amazed. 😎
Certainly are Wood Woman, these are expensive high quality window shades that’ll fit like a glove. Good for many years if you take care of them. I got no regrets. 😎
They are on their website however, I sold that vehicle and now drive a Toyota tundra, and ironically, I am selling my window shades that are like new condition for all eight windows for a fifth GEN 4Runner 😎
Looks good… but seems like it takes way too much time to put up all those shades… 10-15 minutes to put up all those shades?? Don’t have time for all that when I’m exiting my vehicle.
Then don't complain when your interior plastics will look like shit in some years time and enjoy that beautiful convection oven effect you get in the car without sunshades😁👍🏻
Awww, I can't drive with the Weather Tech Window Shade kit installed in my car? Looks like a crazy Liberal Tic Tok Challenge. I just purchased some for my cars. But on the serious side I am not crazy and I am not going to drive with those things on.
