I've been saving tee shirts for years now with the plan of weaving a rug. It's finally time! My studio needs a small rug in front of the door, so here we go! I went ahead and warped extra length (because if you're taking the time to warp, you might as well make it long enough to weave more, right?
I also got some sock loops from Great Northern Weaving, and I love the rug fabric I got from those as well, but I wish I had more colors! I hope this helps someone, and that you try it out! Thanks! I love you; bye!

That’s a really clever way to keep old clothes from ending up in a landfill. Very inspirational. I was skeptical at first but after seeing the finished product and seeing how easy it would be to launder you totally turned me around. I love the things you do with the rigid heddle. I’m just learning on it but you’ve inspired quite a few projects. Thank you!

This is wonderful inspiration. I do have a 24" beka and plenty of old tshirts that need to get cleaned out. My son is in the process of buying his first home and this would a make a great gift. All the old tshirts from his family members turned into something useful. ❤ PS nice Guggenhein snips. 💯

That would make a great gift! I love these scissors. I bought them for myself one Christmas when they were having a special deal. They're great, and i got a tiny pair for sniping embroidery threads too.

I love the many colored rug! That type of rug has a special place in my heart, because it makes me think of my aunt Kathleen. She had these scattered all over her house. When I was little, I considered these to be very fancy, and I would set up a Barbie play area on one, or maybe make one into a flying carpet, and just generally had a good time and a good little rug. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Have you ever cut the shirts as one long piece before? This way is cooler so you get all those colors, plus seems like double width loops would make it go more quickly. So a "memory" rug lol, nice. Perfect places for the new rugs. Who doesn't love a good rag rug right?

I sometimes use my quilting stash to wrap around cording to make baskets on the sewing machine. I have thought about making a rag rug with quilting cotton. The advantage of knit t shirts is it won't unravel or shed threads like cotton will. I am sorry about your Sister, Trish. It was the first time I have heard you mention her. I am glad you have her memory with you in such a lovely way.

I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot from you. Newer weaver here. My question is kind of general but related.. do you always do the extra hemming warp when you're at the end of one project but continuing on the same warp to do a second one? Maybe it's not called hemming warp (I'm just referring to the edging to separate one piece from the next). Thank you🙂
