You're probably right but that's not because of "humuphubia", that's because males and females don't interact with themselves and each other in the same way, so people on the outside are more likely to make differing assumptions. In our society, it is veeeeery common to see totally straight females behave in overly-affectionate ways with each other. You don't typically see a guy behave this way with a girl unless he's crushing on her and visa-versa. As for men, if these characters were both boys, then I bet you MORE people would assume they're gay, because straight men/boys don't typically act this way together. Personally, I see their relationship, based on these clips as "wow, this slightly older girl is so cool, I don't know how to talk to cool kids, I really want her to be my friend" which is something that happens a lot in real life. Now if you personally interpret them as being gay, more power to you, everyone is entitled to interpret this however they want. But please take the Gay-goggles off for a second and stop trying to bash everyone who disagrees, and stop trying to assume that you KNOW why people have their opinion that's different from yours.

Well Bryke didn't really plan for Korrasami to be canon but after a while, likely while they were writing Book 3, they started to really get into the idea and hint at it and eventually just went with it.
