Question. I have a bank in china which linked with wechat. There is a balance in Chinese yuan. can I add an America bank visa card on Wechat and transfer that balance money to this US bank Visa card? means it would be an international transfer. Could you please do a video about that? thanks

Hi Xia, transferring cash value out of WeChat Pay can only work if it is TO and FROM a China bank account from what we have attempted (we are located in Canada). So, with regards to your question to transfer a yuan balance to an American bank visa card that unfortunately isn't allowed. Hope that helps!

Hi there - for now, WeChat is still only allowing WeChat personal account connections to bank accounts located in Mainland China. We've tried connecting our CAD accounts but our banks are not listed on the platform.

Hi Roberto, unfortunately, it is not possible to withdraw money from your WeChat balance to a Visa Credit Card. You can withdraw funds from your WeChat wallet balance to a China bank account.

From what we know, WeChat policies differ by country but here's how we did it. A friend sent us a red pocket from their WeChat, so we got a message to deposit the money, and this opened up our WeChat Wallet - where the red packet was credited to.

From our experience, if you want to transfer money to your friend in China, this option is only available if both people have tied their WeChat Pay accounts to a bank account in China. When we have transferred funds this way, we have not had any additional fees deducted from our China bank accounts. If you are located overseas and you are adding a credit card, the usual restrictions we see is you can pay for goods and services, but transferring money isn't available unless you have bank accounts in China. Hope this helps!

@@MrVuittonDon Hi there, from what we have tested in Canada, sending funds to your friends needs to be from a bank account. Whereas paying for products/services, such as buying groceries, could be done using a credit card.

Hello - previously, overseas users weren't able to add credit cards to their WeChat Pay, but now that option is available. Tying your WeChat Pay to bank accounts OUTSIDE of China still is not an option. So allowing overseas users to tie their credit cards to WeChat Pay means you can pay for goods and services at locations in, for example, Canada or the US, where the merchants and shops have WeChat Pay as a payment option for their customers. Hi there! If you don't have a Chinese bank account, currently you cannot transfer money using WeChat. From what we see, WeChat is not accepting foreign bank accounts at the moment. Hope this helps!

Hi there - thanks for your question! In the past when we have had to return goods to a vendor in China they have issued a refund to the credit card that we used for the payment. This is the case where we are located in Canada. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately from what we have seen, you have to tie it to a China based bank account, otherwise you cannot withdraw funds from your WeChat Wallet. That said, if you have a balance in your WeChat Wallet, you could use that money internally within WeChat. For example, transferring to WeChat contacts or paying for online goods that accept WeChat Pay as a payment option.

Question......I am a foreigner living and working in China. So, if I travel to Thailand or Philippines for example, I can not use WeChat pay in those countries? Before I could not do so.

Hi Michael, WeChat Pay has expanded their services coverage into a variety of countries, meaning if there are merchants/retail shops/restaurants that accept WeChat Pay as a form of payment, you should be able to pay using your WeChat Pay account. Hope this helps!

Hi there, money transfers can only be done from a bank account that is located in China. Foreign Credit cards can only be used to pay for merchants goods and services at locations that accept WeChat Pay (ie. retail shops, supermarkets, restaurants etc.)

Hi Miracle, thanks for your inquiry. From what we see on the WeChat Pay official page here (pay.weixin.qq.com/index.php/public/wechatpay_en/faq) Africa does have WeChat Pay available. However, from our latest tests, sending actual cash to China requires that you have a China bank account. Even if you have WeChat Pay and your Nigerian credit card tied to your WeChat account, you can't send funds from your credit card to another person. Sorry we can't be of more help on other potential ways to send money, as our expertise is in WeChat. Thank you again for your inquiry.

Hi Bilal - this is likely because of WeChat Pay for International Users still doesn't allow for tying to a bank account UNLESS it is a bank account that is located in China. For International Users, we have been able to link credit cards only, and with this option, you cannot send money to each other, you could use it to pay for services at retail stores or e-commerce shops online. Hope this clarifies the issue!

Hi Robin, though we have already responded on Facebook, we want to share a response here so our other viewers can benefit from the knowledge as well. Many businesses overseas are now signed up as WeChat Pay vendors to accept WeChat Pay payments from their clients. Since you mention that you have clients in China and they want to pay by WeChat Pay, if you do not have a China-based bank account tied with your personal WeChat Wallet, then you can't take money out into your own bank account even if the parents transfer you the funds on WeChat. That said, a workaround would be to sign up for a WeChat Pay vendor account. pay.weixin.qq.com/index.php/public/wechatpay So think of this as a Square payment processor or a Moneris Visa/Mastercard payment processor, but for WeChat. Businesses can sign up for a WeChat Pay vendor account and tie it to their business bank account outside of China. This way, when your clients pay you using their WeChat Pay, the funds can be deposited into your business bank account in your currency. You can find more information at the official link above. Their reps will be able to help you. We hope this works for your business!

If you are buying from a vendor that charges you in RMB then yes, your credit card will likely charge you for the currency exchange fee. If you are in the US, and you buying something from a vendor that charge USD, then no, WeChat Pay will not exchange the payment into RMB. Hope this helps!

Hi Laura, we just tested this on our phone and when we go into 'Region' to set up a new credit card we see "Macao, China" and then when you click into this, it's further segmented into regions within Macao such as "Cathedral, Coloane, St. Lawrence, St. Lazarus, Taipa..". so maybe check for that spelling? It would seem strange that Macao would appear for us (we are located in Canada) but not for you (assuming you are located in Macau)?

Heather Custer where we have tested this in North America, WeChat has allowed us to add credit cards only without having a Chinese bank card tied to the WeChat Wallet. The platforms policies differ by country, so depending on where you are located you may have different requirements.

Hi there! WeChat Pay has opened its CREDIT CARD function for international users (for reference, we are located in North America). We are able to add credit cards that are Canadian or USD credit cards, but we still cannot tie our Canadian or US bank accounts to our WeChat Pay, since WeChat accepts bank accounts located in China only. If you have added your credit card then you should be able to make payments on your credit card using WeChat Pay. If you do NOT have a local Chinese bank, then unfortunately you will not be able to receive/deposit the red parcel, because WeChat Pay works only with local Chinese banks.

If you are an overseas user, you will be able to tie a credit card but not a debit card, unless your bank account is with a bank in China or is a China bank with branches in one of the Special Administrative Regions (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, etc.). Hope this helps!

Hi Waqar - if your Chinese university offers and accepts WeChat Pay as an option and you have WeChat Pay on your account then it is something to consider. Although for overseas users (assuming you are an international student visiting China), using WeChat Pay with your overseas credit card tied to your WeChat Pay account may not be an accepted form of payment. Usually, services and product websites in China will only accept WeChat Pay payments from users who have a China bank account tied to their WeChat Pay account. Hope this helps!

Hi there - this is because either your location does not offer WeChat Pay as a service right now, or your WeChat Pay function has not been 'activated'. The way we activated our own accounts was to have a friend who has WeChat Pay send us a 'Red Packet' (small RMB dollar amount transfer works fine). Once you receive this 'Red Packet' using your WeChat account the feature should show up. Hope this helps!

Hi there - WeChat only allows tying WeChat Pay accounts to China-based banks, so if your bank is not a China bank, then unfortunately it only allows you to tie your credit card to the WeChat Pay account.

Hello - once you have added a credit card you can visit shops that accept WeChat Pay as a form of payment and pay using WeChat Pay. You do not need to top up your WeChat Wallet balance. That is for if you have a bank account tied to it.

From what we saw when we registered our credit cards, the platform was able to link with Visa and Master Card, but we didn't see Amex as an option.

Hi, it's a free feature on WeChat, it doesn't cost you anythign for using WeChat Pay.

Hi there, WeChat Pay for international users is for users to add credit cards so they can pay at retail or online locations that offer WeChat Pay as a form of payment. You do not need to top up your WeChat Pay account with your credit card, you can simply scan a merchant's QR code to pay. Hope this helps!

@@CatalystAgents It seems adding credit card as a way of real name verification does not work anymore. When I try to add a new credit card, I am asked to fill out identity card/passport details.

@@combathero-bv8ek Hello - credit card cannot be used as a way to verify your identity. Only a bank account can be used to verify your identity because when you registered your bank account in China, they have your personal ID, residential address details, etc. on file. Hope this helps!

Tried but unable to do any top ups to my wallet balance. any solutions?

Hi there. We have tied both a China bank card and a credit card to our WeChat Pay, but for WeChat top ups, it only shows the option to top up the WeChat Wallet balance with our bank card. So, to add to your wallet balance you will need a China bank account. However, if you are able to add a credit card, you should be able to make purchases without adding a balance to your WeChat Wallet. Ie. you can still pay with WeChat Pay when you scan a QR code to pay, the app will prompt you to choose your credit card as the method of payment. Hope this helps!
