Weddell seals dive to depths of 2300 ft (700 m) for over an hour to feed on squid, krill and fish under the frozen Ross Sea, Antarctica. They chip holes through the sea ice with their teeth and either pop their heads out of these holes to breathe or they haul out on the surface of the ice. How long does it take for this Weddell to breathe and how many breaths does it take before it dives below the frozen surface of the sea ice? Do you think it will be on a deep dive? Why?
