I love that they could have given Emily and Richard the typical loveless marriage seen from wealthy older couples in fiction but instead chose to have them genuinely love each other in their own way.
One of things I like about this show is the commitment the characters have to each others welfare. Rory goes off to see about her father because she sees his pain. Say what you like about the inconsistencies and plot holes, this show has heart.
The first time I saw Edward Herrman was in The North Avenue Irregulars. I remember almost nothing about that movie except that it was a fun movie, and Edward Herrman was adorable. He stood out in the movie, as he did in Overboard and Lost Boys and as Franklin Roosevelt and as a surgeon unraveling in MASH. He was marvelous everything I saw him in.
