In German the ending b is pronounced as p

It's Habsburg with a 'b'. I don't know what is the logic behind calling it a "Hapsburg" ????? With this logic we can call the English Monarch's House a Windzor, too.

It's an old spelling in English. Even in German it is actually pronounced as 'Hapsburg' (first 'b' unaspirated), which may be why 'p' was used in English. Also, spelling in Europe wasn't standardised until relatively recently. I don't know for sure, but I expect in Low German you might pronounce it HapsborYE. I guess we can be happy it didn't turn into Hapsbury ('Hapsbree') or Hapsborough ('Hapsbrah') in English.

@@TenOrbital Oh, come on. Just respect other languages spelling rule. If you like to be respected, respect others, too. Even if English is the most dominant language. Same applies to the French, who don't even try to pronounce the H letter in foreign names,. or the T at the end of the words. Haydn is Aydn, Händel is Andel, Mozart is Mozaar, and so on. However, they expect everyone to pronounce their French names correctly, where sometimes out of 5 letters they pronounce only 2.

@@ferencszathmary9689 - We still say Cologne, Nuremberg, Munich, Vienna and Moscow. Hapsburg is way down the list. And many English sources use Habsburg anyway.

@@TenOrbital There is no problem calling the cities with other names. London also have other name versions in other languages.

@@TenOrbital Respect names, Habsburgs were always called Habsburgs, not Hapsburgs. It's one letter difference, no one is stupid enough to be unable to grasp that. And it doesn't really matter what it's spoken as. Going by the same rule I could call England Ingland, because that's how you say it in my language.
