That clue crossed with "maim" is so thematically appropriate to the plot of the Odyssey, where he maims the cyclops by poking out his eye! Props to the puzzle constructor!

Really quite a fun and well put together theme. I'd have to double check, but I do believe that none of the clues included an "I", so indeed, there was only "one eye".
